Just a taste of what Barrys' or Hillarys' presidency would have been like(you remember "We're going to take things away from you for your own good") What's taking place is fact, just apply it to the Big states, and you'll think the Patriot Act was a lullaby.

"I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. "

Politics aside, somebody should really give Mr. Blunt a history lesson.

Danzig 09-27-2008 10:42 PM

this press release is in response to what exactly?

Mortimer 09-27-2008 10:43 PM

She had to ask.

Danzig 09-27-2008 10:46 PM

yeah, i did. this thing is made out to be a big deal, but i don't know what the deal IS.

Mortimer 09-27-2008 10:48 PM

It's a Dimmy-ism.

Ziggy: the Obama campaign is trying to use the threat by heavy handed prosecutors to stop any adverse ads(to Obamas campaign). As stated in the release, Gov is calling out this intimidation for what it is...an attempt to silence
any adverse media/campaign by costly prosecution. Same as the so-called
Fairness Doctrine. Course the libs don't want to pay their shills..they want the conservative stations to pay the freight....typical.

I mean say something girvanesque. Say something that differeniates you from the run of the mill idiot like honu or arljim78. Something so uniqely dumb that only you could have said it.

I know you have it in you. Believe me when I say that I am a big fan.

Well, tell your wife to stop snoring.

You disappointed me last night timmi. You stopped posing long before you fulfilled your nightly quotient of stupid posts.

I am confident in your ability and i know it was just a fluke.

but are there any specific examples? articles discussing anyone being arrested, threatened, intimidated? a press release, in and of itself, is no proof of anything.

by the way, and this is directed towards everyone, the personal attacks lend nothing to debate. a differing opinion does not necessarily equate to a lack of intelligence, etc.

True. I agree. Geeker has a different opinion and no one is calling him dumb. GPK has a difference of a opinion and no one is calling him dumb. So does Mort and so do others.

Posting a press release by a hardcore republican governor with unsubstantiated accusations and trying to pass them off as some sort of fact is indeed dumb and adds less to the debate than the insults. We have a body of work from old timmi g that could go ten pages of dumb things.

Debate requires points supported by facts from each side. With Timmi you dont get that so I choose to have fun with him.

well, i guess timmi is a big boy and can take it. just that sometimes i feel you have to wade thru pages of muck to find anything of substance, and i find it tedious.

but i agree that this press release means nothing, which is why i asked for more. otherwise, it's just propaganda from that governor...

Did you see the tina fey thing on SNL last night?

nope.
i'm not much of a tv watcher-until this time of year, it's all football, all the time. well, except for yesterday. i was pretty unhappy-three great games on t.v. i'd have loved to watch yesterday evening....but, duty calls. my daughter is in the band of SAU, so we trooped off to western arkansas for the evening to watch the hapless muleriders (yes, that's really their mascot) go to 0-4 vs henderson state. but the band was good. :)
we left just after half time, listened to the second half of lsu on the radio.

but i digress, what did the wonderful ms fey do last night?

Posted it. She did a mock of the couric interview.

You didnt miss much last night if you mean the georgia-bama game. Scare was not indicative of the route. this Bama team is really good.

yeah, i just watched it. hilarious. i know for the last few years snl hasn't been as good (but then, was it ever as good as the 'old days'?) but tina fey was always a bright spot on that show.

they have a pick em contest in the paper here, and i went with alabama-a lot of people, including my son, told me i was nuts. but i have all the games right so far, so who knows?
would love to get tix to the lsu/bama game, but i don't think it's gonna happen.

the deal is that according to a Missouri news station report, the Obama campaign has asked Missouri law inforcement to target anyone who lies about Obama. They're calling them the Obama Truth Squads.
http://www.kmov.com/video/index.html?nvid=285793&shu=1

the video shows a couple of prosecutors who claim to be protecting Missourians from false claims. I guess they feel that they are the final arbiters of the truth. is this what people elect district attorneys and sheriffs, to do?

it offensive and is reminiscient of a police state, trying to intimidate and put a chill on dissenters. use your campaign hacks or phony purveyors of truth like factcheck.org if you want to spread your version of the truth, but to preemptively enlist law enforcement to stifle opposing views! what are we Nazi Germany?

no problem, this is all part of the politics of hope and change.

Well thank God we have the patriot act and illegal wiretapping to show Obama where to find the dissenters.

Its fitting that a campaign of proven liars would actually want a situation where lying can go on running unchecked.

But the funniest thing of all? Last I checked, St Louis is in Missouri and i dont need Ms. Palin to give me a geography lessson either because my sister lives there. Why is the mayor of St Louis supporting this? Wny is the DA? And if this is somehow unconstitutional, why can't THE GOVERNOR who wrote the press release do something about it?

Where is McCain this weekend by the way?

dalakhani 09-28-2008 12:32 PM

I guess McCain's truth squad is okay?

What exactly does mort believe...?

im givin mort a fat pitch to hit, can he connect? can there possibly be any substance? i say he stays within his world of inferior posters

pgardn 09-28-2008 01:28 PM

This has been one of the cleaner campaigns imo.

What does bug me about Democrats is that they seem
to have a penchant for some sort of mental superiority
complex, and this overboard self-righteousness.

And Republicans consistently stick to the tired theme
that throwing money at something does not solve problems.
Yet they throw a billion dollars into a brand new bomber
that crashes and think nothing of it.
If the word Tax did not exist, the platform would be very stark.

How about the claim that the holocaust had nothing to do with religion?

Well it had a lot to do with finding a
convenient(sp?) scapegoat in a country
that was severely ecomonically depressed.
Jews had assimilated very well into German
society and were successful. And easy targets.

I dont think Hitler invented the final solution to
punish Jews for their refusal to consider Jesus Christ
as the messiah.

Thats not the point. The fact that they were persecuted because they were JEWISH would mean that religion was inolved.

You can't seperate it...no matter how much you try to play the scholarly devil's advocate.

There can be no denying he has made some really dumb comments the last few weeks. I understand you not wanting to agree, but if you are going to insist on butting in, can you at least be honest and not skate around stuff. Say what's on your mind. Don't pussyfoot around and try and be clever. It doesn't work.

There is no attempt to be clever whatsoever.
So you disagree with my holocaust assessment.
Tell me why?

Maybe its cause my Dad was a lawyer. I see holes
in both sides. Ask me a question... I have never shirked
at giving at an opinion. And I really dont feel totally at ease
really thinking people are jerks unless I have met them.
I have met no one on this internet board.
You actually may not be a jerk at all.

Many people of the Jewish persuasion would tell you its a culture, more than a religion. And Jews were not the only culture persecuted by Hitler in a systematic manner. Have you read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich? Its really good. I do not believe they were persecuted for WHAT THEY BELIEVED, they were horribly persecuted because of who they were.
