The Morton computer model has
the rath of nature smiting my humble abode.

Louisiana is spared according to the Mortunsus
linear degredation cycling anamoly. The rest of
the models appear to disagree with this advanced system.

Looks like I am going to have to evacuate here by tomorrow morning :(
It's going to be a monster from the looks of it!
Took months to recover from Hurricane Rita 3 years ago..Everyone is just now getting back to "normal", and here comes another one

Houston?

The sweat box of the United States...

Gustav has strengthened even sooner then expected. It is already a category 3. By the time it hits the gulf where the water temps are in the upper 80's it may strengthen even more. I hope everyone is prepared this time.

G/L Cowgirl...and the rest of the Texans.
Yup it's going to be bad, very bad.

Things are so much better this time now that Blanco is gone and Jindal is Governor. If anyone gets left it's completely 10000% their own fault. They began assisted evacs this am, 700 buses rolling, amtrack, flight, contraflow begins tomorrow, Fema is here, Paulson is VERY GOOD, national guard deployed, Chertoff is here and Nagin is being told what to do by the State and Fed.
No matter where it hits they are much more prepared, already activated and ready to move.
We are on the bad side which will push water up the river, bayous and into the lake no matter where it lands, I'm sure the levees will fail again, but it seems almost everyone is leaving this time. No excuses this time about being poor, elderly or disabled.....the state, fed and local are doing their job this time all over the gulf coast..I think, I know for sure Louisiana and Mississippi. Hope it's the same in Texas as it is here

We'll know in about 24 more hours where it should hit, wherever it is it will be bad. We're staying put, generators ready, lots of fuel and food, worried about the tornados though.
Once again good luck to all in the gulf wherever you end up...and keep you eye on Hanna, that's following the Katrina/Rita path, back to back hurricanes possible.

Oh and Coach I think that will be 7+ for gas.....:p

cowgirlintexas 08-30-2008 11:52 AM

Well, it has moved more eastward since 6 this morrning...Good thing for me..Bad for the cajuns..As of now I am just going to "sit tight" and make a descion tomorrow.. I hate this "back and forth" crap..Very frustrating to say the least.
Best of luck to anyone close to this thing..It really does look like she's going to kick some a$$....

Thanks for the luck Beth..Back at ya girl :)

ddthetide 08-30-2008 12:23 PM

Be Safe and Good Luck to all our Gulf coast DTers.:(

People are already leaving Beaumont...

Gonna be massive traffic jams if they call for a manditory evacuation of Houston. Rita caused an evacuation disaster.

cowgirlintexas 08-30-2008 09:11 PM

It is an absolute nightmare again...I could feel the urgency in the air a little while ago when I went to my Moms..Stores are closed and some gas stations are already out of gas :(
I am still unsure at this point because everyone is headed toward Houston and that is where I would be going..I guess if anything "good" right now is that Beaumont is not going to be hit directly like with Rita 3 yrs ago.
Oh..what to do.. what to do...

Hopefully you are not to close to the water.

Fill the tub with H2O.
Get the flashlights ready.
Can opener with canned food.

They still are not sure what will happen.
But the winds are God awful high in a very large area.
Thats not good this early.

Most likely you will be fine. If it does go more West...
Yikes.

First Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans.

Hopefully it is organized and people leave.
Its time to move people out from land below sea-level.
For good.
Pure stupidity, they keep building on a delta.

Mayor Nagin of New orleans:

The mayor’s warnings were considerably more dramatic than the forecasts issued by the National Hurricane Center, and he may have been trying to shock jaded residents into taking prudent steps. But he said storm surges, particularly on the city’s West Bank, could be twice as high as the neighborhood’s 10-foot levees, and said those choosing to remain in their homes should have an axe to chop through their roof when the floodwaters rise.

The storm, he said, was now 900 miles wide, compared with 400 miles for Katrina. Even the capital of Baton Rouge, 80 miles inland from New Orleans, could experience hurricane force winds of up to 100 m.p.h., he said. But Dennis Feltgen, a spokesman for the National Hurricane Center, said he had no idea what the mayor meant by a 900-mile footprint, saying that hurricane force winds do not extend nearly that far.

He has everything under control.
Idiot.

We are about 20 miles inland here..But the North side of I-10 is the better place to be.. Not really worried about storm surge here..just tornados and 80+ winds...Going to lose power for sure..Just hope not for 6 weeks like last time.. I need my daily D.T fix :D
