Reminder: Bernardini Is Mine

As the big races at Saratoga ... and later this Fall ... approach ... I just want to alert members of this forum ... who may not be aware of it ...

... that as far as fans of the sport are concerned ... Bernardini is "mine" ...

... because I believe I was the first ... on March 7 on the "other" forum ... to publicly proclaim that "Bernardini is the most talented 3YO colt in America."

If anyone publicly made such a statement before then ... please present your evidence ... and if it's valid ... I will yield my proprietorship.

I'm not sure how well he'll run in the Jim Dandy ... I don't like "spaced" races and "fresh" horses ... but I do have faith in Tom Albertrani ... who is another bold Brooklynite.

So ... hands off Bernardini ... he's mine unless you can prove otherwise.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:22 AM

ok, you can have him. altho i always think it's funny when someone calls dibs on a horse cause they saw him first.

sumitas 07-29-2006 10:23 AM

ur the greatest :p

dr. fager 07-29-2006 10:24 AM

I don't think an AP Indy/Cara Rafaela colt is exactly finding a needle in a hay stack. This one has been on the radar for a few years. His January debut was one of the most awaited races of the year.

Danzig 07-29-2006 10:32 AM

surely not!! i mean, he's by ap indy and surely was toiling in obscurity....esp when his trainer has been singing his praises since day one. why, i was shocked..SHOCKED...that anyone would go out on a limb and say they liked this horse early on...

ezrabrooks 07-29-2006 10:32 AM

I seem to recall that day in Fla when you made your proclamation about Bernardini that there was another young horse on the same card that you made a similar statement about...for the record...who was that?

Ez

BellamyRd. 07-29-2006 10:41 AM

well, I was the first on the other forum to predit his Preakness win
which I do not validate with the breakdown of the great Barbaro
in fact, at 4/5 you can surely have him today
I'll take Dr. Pleasure
btw, who were you on the other board (sorry if it wasn't ESPN)
you don't sound like the Brooklyn Tracker
who I was hoping would make an appearance here

"The eternal struggle between American Puritanism and the American love of excess.."

Danzig, could this struggle also be characterized (somewhat) as the struggle between A$$ Hole and the American love of A$$ Xtra Pretty?

I think it is funny, but you have to do better than Bernardini. How about a horse like Bright One, or one that isn't out of a grade 1 winning mare and AP Indy. Cara Rafaela was placed in 10 grade 1 and grade 2's. Just to let you know there is a full sister to Bernardini born this year too. I don't know what her name is but i talked about her first. LOL.

Well, I'm calling her right now ;) . Damn, you edited and beat me to her, lol

Pointg5 07-29-2006 10:56 AM

What about Mayan King?

Are you ditching him?

pgardn 07-29-2006 10:57 AM

Well I was the first to fart at Holy Communion and admit it.
So two birds with one stone, I skipped Confession.

It was Songster ... and even though he lost that day to Exclusive Quality ...

... on March 7 I also publicly stated that Songster would be the leading 3YO sprinter.

Not too bad so far ... eh, Ez?

Who was I?

Hey ... I was ... am ... and always will be ... Bold Brooklynite.

I'm not one of these linguini-spined candyazzes ... who hides behind a different name of each forum.

I'm here ... and I'm in your face ... so just get used to it.

I said that Bernardini was the most talented 3YO ...

... Mayan King is a 4YO ...

... and I categorically stand behind my prediction that ... if he stays sound ... Mayan King will be the 2006 Horse Of The Year.

If you have any doubts ... just watch what happens at Saratoga on August 13.

OK ... it's time once again to tell the "Brunelleschi" story.

When the rich Renaiassance city of Florence decided to build a huge new cathedral ... they held a competition to determine who would be the chief architect.

When it was Brunelleschi's turn to be interviewed by the city council ... he passed an egg around the table ... and asked each council member if he could stand the egg on its end. One by one ... the council members failed to get the egg to stand on its end.

Brunelleschi then took the egg ... cracked it on the table ... and said "There ... now it's standing on its end."

The council members looked at Brunelleschi and said ... "Oh, well ... we could have done that."

And Brunelleschi said to them ... "Yes ... you could have ... but you didn't."

So ... maybe you could have said that Bernardini was the most talented 3YO way back in early March ...

... but you didn't.

Danzig 07-30-2006 09:10 PM

try real hard not to sprain your shoulder patting yourself on the back. nothing noisier, and more annoying, than someone who toots their own horn.

Downthestretch55 07-30-2006 09:16 PM

Bernardini vs Brunalleschi

I'll take Bernardini. Brunalleschi has been dead for a while, though the dome of the cathedral reminds me of half of a humpty dumpty. He was cracked anyway. Omlets anyone?
Bernardini could spot him 100 yards and win walking on three legs.

I'm merely performing a community service ... by keeping all the other forum members posted on the important news.

Downthestretch55 07-30-2006 09:32 PM

Important news??? Duh!! Nobody ever heard of Bernardini...right!
Is it Brunalleschi is designing a new dome for your refrigerator box?
And what's this I hear that your family had to take out a loan on your birthday because the candles cost more than the cake?

Next thing you're going to tell us is that Hank Goldberg was a student in your
"Bold Brooklyn School of Handicapping".

Bold Brooklynite 08-24-2006 10:32 AM

Just bumping up this thread as a refresher.

I "discovered" not only Bernardini ... but Songster and Smuggler as well ... long before anyone else knew of them.

And ... I was the first to expose Lost In The Fog ... and to predict Barbaro's breakdown ... and to spot the decline in Funny Cide's capabilities.

Only the unfortunate injuries to the magnificent Mayan King ... prevented a clean sweep.

Why bring these many triumphs up now? Hey ... I didn't ... someone else created the "Bold Predictions" thread.

It's been a long time since we've had a really "great" colt in the U.S. ... let's hope "my horse" ... Bernardini ... can take us there again.

You cannot claim Smuggler, I remember her maiden race in October of 2004, I was at Keeneland and I was watching the Belmont Races...

I made my first public post ... and prediction ... about her ... that she would be the 3YO filly champion ... two hours after the race.

When did you make yours?

Since I was a Keeneland, I was an hour and a half away from a computer, I had to say it aloud approximately 10 seconds after the race....One other note from that race, she was a heavy favorite, some bomb ran 2nd and the Tri paid over a grand....

I'll take your word for it ... but it's not admissable in court ...

... there's no permanent public record of your statement ... but ... my post should be cached over at the "other" site.

As Casey Stengel would say ... "You could look it up."

Gander 08-24-2006 10:53 AM

Smuggler was 3yo champion in a year where no horse deserved it. Definetely wont go down as a great, thats for sure. Could have easily went to Summerly or that Mott filly.

Absolutely correct ... but ...

... Phipps' man-servant shines Smuggler's Eclipse Award every other Thursday.

Buffymommy 08-24-2006 10:56 AM

Need I pull up the thread from ESPN where you didn't even know she raced at Keeneland:p

this concept of claiming horses on here is odd to say the least.

Also of note: that race was on a Thursday, Commentator won a 3yo listed Stake Race at Keeneland that day...

Until you get some sort of Bernardini license plate, you aren't his biggest fan.

I don't know, maybe the same kind of nerd that would make his license plate an homage to the body of water separating France and England?
