Why is Delosvientos 30-1 on the morning line?

Its a weird ML. Well Armed is 10-1. I don't really think he has a huge chance going 10f, but he did win the San Diego fairly well, was 3rd to Curlin in the Dubai World Cup, and had competitive form to subsequent division leader Heatseeker this winter at SA.

Not to mention there are no real standouts in the race.

eajinabi 08-23-2008 10:39 PM

I am picking one of the biggest longshots of the day. GLOBAL HUNTER in the Del Mar Mile.

in Argentena GLOBAL HUNTER ran his best races on Turf going one mile. There he was carrying well 126 lbs plus yet he won in fast times. He hasnt raced on turf here yet but I feel this will be his best race in USA and he gets a sneaky turf rider in Valdivia. I know this is a real tough field to beat but I believe he has to be included underneath.

THE BET:

$200 Show GLOBAL HUNTER

I like him too (to use underneath, I mean) and this is probably insanity but I think Hurry Up Austin (applause :D ) will be surprisingly good today (by that i mean 3rd or 4th) and no I'm not on drugs.

Scratches...

Good luck everyone and come home safe kids.

I shouldn't call myself a longshot player, though I used to "look" for them. My process of handicapping is now constructed to seek change, something new that will spring "today", so most happen to be very good "value"

I went for awhile boxing these picks with the usual suspects, only to see the favorite bomb and my choice win paying $30.00 whatever, and I missed the right bet

Playing these choices the correct way, I believe, is to bet WPS(across the board).

Get the win first

almost! the 7 broke excellently...without that, you had it.

philcski 08-24-2008 07:23 PM

How did the 5 lose that photo?!?

pgardn 08-24-2008 07:51 PM

Cant take Lewis Michael down.

eajinabi 08-24-2008 07:51 PM

If there should be a award for rides, then Rene Douglas should be nominated for his ride on Lewis Michael. Brilliant!

westcoastinvader 08-24-2008 08:10 PM

Bold Chieftain is my sentimental fave in the Del Mar Mile Handicap.

I walked from my house to see him win at the Pleasanton Fair last year.

Not often that a horse racing fan can walk from home to see a horse that later is running in a $400,000 race.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

westcoastinvader 08-24-2008 08:19 PM

Nice race.......

I shoulda bet.

Baze got 100% placement and effort there, in my book.

Pedigree Ann 08-24-2008 08:20 PM

Bold Chieftain second, Global Hunter third. Should have come in here earlier and contructed a trifecta ticket. Good tipping.

Don't expect those $200 show bets to be that good very often going forward, of course.

Go buy yourself a nice filet and bottle of wine and and enjoy.

I'm pulling for you in the inquiry.

If they place Global Hunter 2nd, it'll get you quite a bit more $$.

I don't see how that happens. They split the show pool into 3 equal parts, then divide the thirds by the number of show tickets on each horse (after takeout, of course). Same 3 horses in the money, same show prices, no matter how they scramble them.

This wasnt a 2-5 shot. He was 30-1. I would have been stupid to go WPS cause it was a tough field to win. I bet him cold for Show cause I knew he will run HIS best race yet. I will take my $600 profit and buy me a watch.

Yep, Pedigree Ann, you're exactly right. I was too busy typing instead of thinking!

I actually was meandering to "place" bet thoughts, of course.

She looks like a filly that needs to stretchout to a route. She picked the bit back up the last 100 yards or so. She's always had a grinding-type stride.

eajinabi 08-24-2008 09:20 PM

EXACTLY!!!! Route is what this horse needs

Just watched the replay of the 8th with Midnight Lute..What the heck happend with this horse? He just kinda ran around the track..Never showed anything..Heard Baffert talk about him Friday on ATR and was saying how great of a horse he was, etc. etc..The best he's trained...Sure did'nt look like much today:rolleyes:

Really bad trip, and I think Gomez just protected him when he realized the futility of his position.

Too bad too, I thought for a horse that never broke out of a gallop, he ran pretty big.

hope it wasn't too nasty, i heard them talking about it on the program-that he had some bleeding, etc.

CSC 08-25-2008 08:08 AM

I completely disagree, if being behind horses is a bad trip. Then we would have bad trips galore in every race.

Okay if its true he grabbed a quarter that might have affected his performance abit.

However, I think any time a horse trained by a trainer like Bob Baffert is laid up for 9 months and reappears on poly instead of Saratoga where he ran the lights out last year, there should be a sniff of skeptism in the air.

Did you watch the race? He literally had nowhere to go for most of the race and the jock didn't even try on him.
