Duke Of Marmalade vs New Approach.... it's on

From Racing Post....

New Approach will run in Juddmonte International

Tony O'Hehir

YORK is set to stage the race of the season on Tuesday after Voadfone Derby victor New Approach(right) was given the green light to tackle multiple Group 1 winner Duke Of Marmalade in the Juddmonte International.

The two Irish superstars will go head to head in the Ebor meeting's showpiece event after New Approach's trainer Jim Bolger and ownerPrincess Haya decided to pitch in the Epsom hero against Ballydoyle's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner.
Bolger told the Racing Post: “Following discussions between myself and the owners, we have decided that New Approach will run in the International. We have no real concerns should the ground ride soft.”

However, Bolger added that Lush Lashes will not run in Thursday's Darley Yorkshire Oaks if the ground is soft.

* * * *

I seriously believe that over ten furlongs on good ground (which it is almost certain to be at York) New Approach will be just too good for Duke Of Marmalade, especially with the weight allowance he gets from The Duke.

New Approach is yet to run over this ten furlong distance but it looks like this will be his best distance, after not having the speed to cope with Henry in the closing stages of a mile and although winning the Derby over twelve furlongs he didn't look like he really enjoyed that distance.

At about 9/2, he is a massive bet.

brockguy 08-16-2008 08:50 AM

tough to bet him coming off a setback like his but I REALLY hope he wins it..

I'm not fan of Jim Bolger after how he has treated punters in the last year or so, but thing I do know about him, he wouldn't be even contemplating running the horse if he wasn't 110%. You know what he's like, being so picky about where he sends his horses.

New Approach runs well fresh, as we know.

I hope Sir Michael sends him up to York tomorrow, because he'll need to start two days before the others to make the first three :p

If he doesn't have to get on a plane, he won't want to know.

You're terrible!

He is fearless, damnit. There should be an award for bravery in his honor.

Linngari and Oracle West both..... two of my favorite globetrotters.

Gotta love the boys who try to beat the monsters.:)

Oh yeah???

Well look at this.

From DRF...

New Approach, Duke of Marmalade Likely to Scratch
(apologies to) ALAN SHUBACK

The Group 1, $978,000 Juddmonte International Stakes at York on Tuesday was to feature a scintillating clash of the generations with both 3-year-old Epsom Derby winner New Approach and 4-year-old King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Duke of Marmalade.

Trained by Jim Bolger, New Approach had been absent since his half-length victory in the Epsom classic on June 7.

In Duke of Marmalade he would have been facing the winner of four Group 1 races this year.

All plans were put on hold by both camps with the shock announcement early today that dual G1 winner Linngari is a possible runner.

"Why enter when we'd be running for second or third?", a deflated Bolger somberly replied.

Aidan O'Brien was unavailable for comment.

:p

NoChanceToDance 08-17-2008 10:04 AM

You keep dreaming.

However, with the amount of rain they had at York last night, it wouldn't surprise me to see all three of them taken out. The ground is heavy there right now.

At this rate, Michael Phelps should be favourite

It says it all when Ryan has chosen to ride Rob Roy over Linngari. :D

my miss storm cat 08-18-2008 10:40 AM

Linngari now doubtful. Happy? :(

All he gets is a single sentence on RP and no picture. Bastards.:D

I like Stubbs..... no reason why he couldn't be 3rd here.

Looks like the Duke will run...

NoChanceToDance 08-18-2008 12:59 PM

Stubbs will hate the ground. The other day Elsworth said he wouldn't run him on soft ground........ so have no idea what he's playing at.

Not saying New Approach will love the ground, but he is sure to handle it better than most. Price has gone now. Why on earth didn't I back him at 9/2 when I had the chance. Kicking myself.

jaripeo 08-18-2008 01:26 PM

All is possible in the races. I will not take out PHOENIX TOWER to do a sorprise :D

I like him a lot, but again, heavy ground will be an unknown for him.

There has been a recent weather report telling York to prepare for more heavy rain tonight and tomorrow. If the mett office is correct, chances of racing at York tomorrow is very slim.

my miss storm cat 08-18-2008 05:36 PM

I keep thinking about George Washington.....

Sorry if this offends anyone but yeah, I hope they cancel if it's bad.

I know, I know, just being emotional but I do.

NoChanceToDance 08-18-2008 06:06 PM

I don't think there will be racing tomorrow. Been talking to somewhere who lives close to York, and they have said they have had heavy rain during this evening.

my miss storm cat 08-18-2008 09:41 PM

Why don't I just post part of the list here..... :p

New Approach at 6-4?? very short, but Ill be cheering him on..

just backed Rob Roy to be placed at 8s, after the first 2, it's extremely open!

why didnt that German horse Adlerflug enter on this bottomless ground??

Scurlogue Champ 08-19-2008 02:48 AM

abandoned...

NoChanceToDance 08-19-2008 11:32 AM

and tomorrow.

The Juddmonte has been arranged to be run on Friday now, but if weather forecasts are correct (they have been of late) then the chance of any racing at York this week looks in serious doubt.

NoChanceToDance 08-19-2008 04:57 PM

Inspection tomorrow at noon to see if Thursdays' card can go ahead, I'd say it looks unlikely at this stage.

NoChanceToDance 08-20-2008 12:36 PM

As you will already know, the whole of York has been abandoned.

The Juddmonte International will now take place at Newmarket :) on Saturday, with the Nunthorpe and Yorkshire Oaks taking place at the same track on Friday.

The festure handicap, The Ebor, will be run under a different name at Newbury.

NoChanceToDance 08-21-2008 03:04 PM

I will get to see the beautiful National Color at Newmarket tomorrow :) :) :)

brockguy 08-22-2008 01:16 PM

should be a brilliant race tomorrow.. can't wait..

NoChanceToDance 08-22-2008 01:23 PM

Very strange today, track records being broken left right and centre, but the ground was described as "good", they didn't go a blistering gallopn in the Yorkshire Oaks, but the times said that Lush Lashes shaved off over two seconds?!?!?!

In the 5.15, the judge said that due to a technical fault, no official time could be taken. So I'm wondering if there was a techincal fault throughout the day.

Gutted National Colour got caught in the final furlong, I love that mare. It was great to see her.

brockguy 08-22-2008 01:53 PM

i had her at 18-1 as well so i was gutted too.. am i mad for thinking that Lush Lashes is the best filly in the world? I think she can do anything, Id love to see her against the boys in say the Irish Champion..

With the fillies being quite weak this year, she might well be the best in the world.

Brock, I saw Kevin Manning in town after racing....... I was tempted to go and have a little chat about Goodwood!
