made up my mind

well
after trying to get feed back from the forum[with nearly no success]ive decided to take my shot this year at saratoga by betting 20 dollars to win
40 to place on steves value pick each race at saratoga
if he doesnt bet on a particular day
i wont bet
i also will take into concideration [with importance]all of hockeys take on each race he gives out a selection
thats my plan
i hope it all goes well
ill keep tabs on the value pick and give a update for the forum to see
ok
good luck everyone up at saratoga
p s into my 6th week with double knee replacement
slow as a mule still but pain is slowly leaving

While Steve does give out great picks ( especially at toga ), maybe you can search the forum on a better way to spend the $40.00 to place on each race. ( exacta / tris / 10cent super / pick 3 / etc. )

I personally think place is a sucker bet.

just my 2 cents, good luck none the less

There are lots of great 'cappers here. It's impossible to narrow them down to a select few. I'm sure most of us have differing opinions on who the best 'cappers are as well. Handicapping is an inexact science and involves a lot of luck, so to definitively say who DT's best handicappers are is about impossible.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but have you considered that your recovery time might be usefully spent trying to learn how to pick winners for yourself? Listening to others' input is helpful, but from experience, I can tell you that handicapping for yourself and picking your own winner is way more satisfying than being 'put on' to a horse..

the_fat_man 07-21-2008 02:24 PM

betting someone else's picks is like getting sloppy 2nds or messy 3rds

then again, this is a new era with the GIRLIE MAN being the prototype

oh ****

sumitas 07-21-2008 02:46 PM

Don't forget the show bet.

Great post!

miraja2 07-21-2008 04:07 PM

To each his own I suppose, but isn't handicapping races yourself the fun part about this whole thing?

TheSpyder 07-21-2008 04:58 PM

I agree with what they are saying..if I was laid up for months I'd be capping and reading horse racing books like crazy.

I thought you were going to write that you are keeping your baby.

Go ahead and bet Steve's plays if you just want some action and don't want to handicap. You could do much worse.

I'd drop the double up place wager though.

Kasept 07-22-2008 06:57 AM

Ontheoutside..

Sorry I have been unresponsive to your request for feedback... Sent you a Private Message with some thoughts.

Hope your operation(s) go well and you get up on the new knees quick!

Kindest regards,
Steve

cowgirlintexas 07-22-2008 07:12 AM

I know that alot of times I will look at Steve's picks when I am handicapping and make a notation of who they are. He seems to have an un-canny nitch for finding those needles in haystacks that I just don't see.
By all means handicap yourself and use your picks with his in perhaps a tri or pick 4.

Good Luck and let us know how things are progressing. Both with the picks and the knee :)

It may sound stupid, but I would rather lose with my selections than cash with someone else pick.

Betting to place is like kissing your sister. Betting to show is like kissing your brother.

but i really dont care
im taking a shot
ill keep u imformed

sumitas 07-24-2008 10:46 PM

Maybe this strategy will be like the stock market. Up one day down the next. If that's the case pass tomorrow. ;)

SCUDSBROTHER 07-25-2008 10:16 PM

Aren't you giving up $400-$500 a week in take out? Instead of doing that, just bet $60-$120 a day on a pick 4. That will cost you (in the range of) $100 week in take-out. Over a year, you would save 15k.

ontheoutside 07-25-2008 10:28 PM

steves value picks for friday

not too good today
here is what i did
1st #2 loser
2nd #8 loser
3rd #1 loser
4th #7 loser
5th #7 winner paid 620 & 330 for me 62 + 66 128 for me
6th #3 loser
7th scratched
8th #6 loser
9th #3 placed paid 550 for me 110 110 for me

so i bet 480 got back 238

___ 242 for day

was plus 270 going in
so im still ahead 28 dollars after 3 days

ontheoutside 07-26-2008 10:48 AM

race replays

what am i doing wrong guys?i go to nyra.com
hit video replays
that brings me to the sight racereplays.com
but it still has that blue page on it telling me that due to whatever no replays
am i missing something here?am i supposed to go somewhere else 1st?im only looking for the free repalys

hockey2315 07-26-2008 11:05 AM

calracing.com has NYRA replays for free. . . they're the only place to get them right now. . . if you have a mac (like me) you'll have to pay for a racereplays subscription. . .

ontheoutside 07-26-2008 12:44 PM

thanks hockey

thank you so much hockey for imfo your very kind for answering me

sumitas 07-26-2008 01:58 PM

ontheoutside 07-26-2008 10:36 PM

best value picks from steve saturday

dont have to give you a run down today
like i usually do
10 races ran [1 scratch
so i invested 600 got back a place bet in the 9th on copper
it paid 580 so i got 116

so i bet 600 got back 116
so minus 484 for day
was ahead 28
so im losing 456 after 4 day
just a bad day
well get them
take care guys

Past Post 07-26-2008 10:50 PM

With all due respect sir, please stop this madness way of betting.Did you ever hear the saying that you can beat a race not the races.Nobody and I mean nobody can play 10 races a day and end up ahead for the day let alone for the year.If you did want to play every race why would you play one horse out of four posted.Try the gimmicks that he offers, you would stand a far better chance.I would luv to book your action with a 20% rebate back on all your losing bets.Free lunch also.

Kasept 07-27-2008 07:04 AM

I already suggested some boxing, keying and/or P3/P4's.. seemingly to no avail.

geeker2 07-27-2008 07:51 AM

I would quit right after you lost an even $35K...then move over and do the same with Steve's superfecta toss in's. Scientifically this has to work!:tro:

ontheoutside 07-27-2008 09:45 AM

Play and post what you want and stop letting others tell you what is acceptable. Byk couldn't care less about someone keeping track of value selections on here. He'd probably like to know how he does when he "designates" a pick as "VALUE". The man's skin is clearly not that thin. Track your play and enjoy it...you learn more about your losing plays than a winner ever teaches you.

Exactly, It's a "value Play" which to me means you will get goods odds on a horse that "may" have a chance to do well. I like the post day results.

SundaySilence 07-27-2008 11:32 AM

I think you should absolutely post your results. Steve normally posts how each race day selections do in all exotics and multi-race wagers, so what you are doing is no different, just a subset of the selections that you decide to play. I say continue to post the results, good luck with the plays.

lazytom 07-27-2008 11:58 AM

Do what you do. And have fun doing it.

sumitas 07-27-2008 02:31 PM

Do your thing and if you want to keep posting your results I'd be interested to keep following. This is about having fun.

Miss Pumkin Shell (best value) 12/1 finished 2nd in the 6th. That'll boost your spirits.

ontheoutside 07-27-2008 07:25 PM

ok now i got 5 psot saying to continue to post so i will v

i got some very nice reads today about me posting my results [5[ to be exact] so i gues ill continue to do it
and if you dont like please
dont read it
ill see in a hour how i did
a wedding today
blah
will go to cal racing to see results
thanks to hockey telling me about the sight to get new york replays
see you later

ontheoutside 07-27-2008 07:56 PM

steves value picks for sunday

only 10 ran
8 were losers
i did pick up in the 6th [he had #9 which finished 2nd at 1180 so i got 236 for that
and in the 10th [ he had #7 which won and payed 1840 & 530 which i got total 290
so i bet 600 got back 526
so i lost 74 for day

i am now minus502 for week
see u tommorrow

ArlJim78 07-27-2008 08:06 PM

these are your plays, so I don't know why you use Steves name on the threads.

Steve posts his own plays based on his picks, and they are not the same as yours.

Bigsmc 07-28-2008 05:15 AM

Thanks to the mods for condensing this into one thread....

gales0678 07-28-2008 08:45 AM

ontheoutside i would like you to make 1 change for next week and keep a running total , i don't want u to bet more , use the same $60 , but , this week instead play $40 to win and $20 to place

you would have one an extra $13 dollars on Sunday's Value picks. i'm sure if we ran the other days and did it with a 40 W 20 P br we would find you would have lost less for the week

let's give it a try this week (starting on Wed to next MON) with a 40 W 20 P bet and see how we do , i do want you to have to play more than your $60 budget, but i want to give you a better chane to increase your ROI - good luck bud

ninetoone 07-28-2008 08:51 AM

Best value in the feature today is in ALL CAPS...back up the trucks brother.

sumitas 07-28-2008 03:18 PM

The pressure is mounting :D

My betting style would be climb the ladder across the board if I were to play the best values...wps, $2, $4, $6...I like to play the show as a saver. but to each his own.
