Vegas
I am going to be in Las Vegas July 18 - 23 and was wandering if anyone had any suggestions on the best places to play, Or if anyone knows of tournaments going on. Maybe someone could show me around. Thanks Jim

I'm a big fan of the Vegas Hilton. The race and sports book is terrific, it's huge and the televisions are all in good, working order. The deli inside the book is outstanding.
If you are a bit of a sizable player the staff at the Hilton will take care of you with current/future comps. They also have a contest called Super Saturdays which is cheap ($30/entry, up to 3 per player). They designate five signals from across America and you have five mythical $100 win/place bets to spread across the tracks (usually NY, CA, KY, IL, and LA). There's no cap but simply a small supply of wagers available to you. In terms of other race books, Mandalay Bay is very big but a lot of the televisions are broken and it is heavily geared towards sports, in my opinion. Bellagio is lavish, Wynn seems OK, and that's about it in terms of good ones. Have a great time, Vegas is the most exciting city in the world. NT |
If you're looking for lower limit poker tourneys, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo all run NL hold'em tourneys daily for $50 or under buy-in with no re-buys. Well run and payout a good number of places.
Played Excalibur many times (cashed all but 2). They're held 3X a day and have a $35 buy-in. Best horse books are Wynn, Hilton, Orleans. Other top sportsbooks are Bellagio, Caesars and Mirage. MGM redid their sportsbook last year (all plasma screens), but there are not many places to sit... however... drinks in that book were free... IF you were playing horses. Most of them charge you regardless of what sports/horses you're playing or even how much you're playing. Waiting for the end of November... my trip out there this year. |
Venetian sports book is not bad....if you are playing they give you coupons for free drinks. Mirage is good too...agree on MGM way to small.
|
As far as Sportsbooks I really liked the Mirage, did not like Treasure Island at all, and thought the Wynn was pretty damn nice.
|
i think the book at Ballys is really sport friendly, i like their setup.
check drf.com and see if they have any tourneys out there that week, palace station and gvr have tourneys every once and a while (horse) -bt- |

I usually don't move from there unless it is to sleep/eat/shower/pool |
tourney search
Here's a link to what you may want to check out..... lists all the tourneys in Vegas for everything for whatever dates you put in. They also give you the buy-in amounts.

You can be shown around allright...but it's gonna cost you plenty. Scavs is more in tune with the going rate for those services. |

Probably a good thing we weren't there at the same time. I would have had them talked into paying us for our services:cool:  |

I think I have been to Vegas about 7 or 8 times and stayed a few different places. As far as sportsbooks goes:
Hilton: I loved it. Big and took good care of me. Excaliber: Very underrated...I really liked it alot. Plenty of room with tons of TV's Mandalay: Overrated IMO New York, New York: Very small, but useful Caesars: Fair...nothing spectacular |

Wait
1) Circus Circus is gone? 2) how long ago are we talking about the Excaliber? I might have to go check this out if it is recent with all these TV's and such. Although, it isn't beneficial for me because I am taken care of at Ballys so I kinda have to play at a Harrah's establishment |

I have actually never been to Circus Circus, at least I don't think. I know the Boardwalk is now gone, for that new place called the Cosmopolitian or something. I have heard that the Aladdin/Planet Hollywood is extremely nice now |

Boardwalk is becoming City Center. PH's casino's better than when it was the Aladdin. Sands was where the Bellagio is. Stardust was on the north strip. They're supposed to be rebuilding it. Cost less to implode and rebuild, than to remodel. Excalibur redid their sports book last year. Moved it into the back of the casino, past the poker room. |
I was very happy with the service and atmosphere at Planet Hollywood. I stayed at Ballys last time and they didn’t comp me for sh!t so I think im gonna move my business to Planet Hollywood for my next visit, but their sportsbook is small, and that’s putting it kind. But its more of a trendy new casino as appose to the old schoolers like ballys, flamingo, etc.
I was really not to overly impressed with Caesars book….. it had high ceilings…….. that’s about all I got Circus Circus, never been…. I hear from the locals that’s that is where all the petafiles hang out on the strip…. Gewwwwwwwwww Also liked MGM’s little wrap around book as well -bt- |

Boyd who owned Stardust is building their own version of a City Center on the North end. There is also talk Wynn is planning the same thing. MGM decided they wanted to turn the STRIP into a City with stores, condos, libraries, schools etc...........now everyone is following suite. |

1) They are pretty cool 2) With them, alot easier to get into clubs 3) They have four growths that are very large 4) Help us not look like the losers that we are :) Same crew as KY Derby + two chicks, we are even allowing Lights On to come after his first vacation performance |
I can't believe GPK actually said he likes the Excalibur.
I just lost a lot of respect for you bro  :D |

I like casinos I have the most luck at...it's that simple. Did okay with the horses there. Made some great $$$ at the craps table there....and the pickings were EASY at the 2/5 NL game. |

As long as you sit at the NL tables. Don't even think of sitting at the limit tables. You will have to be committed to the insane asylum before the night is over. STUPID people playing those tables. |
