One of the few interesting older horses. . .

Bobby Fischer 06-30-2008 05:29 PM

damn.
He showed a true turf horse could dominate the California main track. By 2009 the Breeders Cup Classic should be mostly good turf horses if the trainers are less than 2 years behind the times.

Running on the Oaklawn main dirt track was such a horrendously bad decision for the horse probably most likely to win the BC Classic at that time, but I don't see anything definitive that even suggests that choice was related to his suspensory injury.

hopefully he recovers soon and has a comfortable time in his next career

i dont think it was a bad decision at all, it more then likely had nothing to do with the injury...and i think it proved that he is just a very very good horse on either surface and the only horse in the country who could compete with Curlin

eajinabi 06-30-2008 07:25 PM

That is horrible news!

geeker2 06-30-2008 07:33 PM

Damn!

MaTH716 06-30-2008 07:49 PM

Question, Hasn't he been running on synthetic tracks now for the past year and aren't they supposed to protect horses from injuries like this? Or does the surface have nothing to do with it?

tiggerv 06-30-2008 07:51 PM

Student Council should make a nice BCC winner

In all seriousness, very tough break to lose Heatseeker from an underwhelming older horse division. With a terrible 3yo class on top of it, the field for the Classic should be....interesting. Maybe some Euro horses will ship in and prop it up.

Actually, wouldn't it have been a good decision back in April, seeing how there was still a big chance that Santa Anita was going to reinstall its dirt surface for the Oak Tree meet (and thus the BC)?

This thread should be called "Banning for Bobby Fischer"...

I think she's the cousin of Randy Moss.

And I mean the wide reciever and not the ESPN analyst.

Either that or she's Hossy's mom.

I know you're serious here, but sometimes you gotta ask questions second and do some research first. She's been all over this forum the last couple days.

She's the White Randy Moss' first cousin... and she lives in Iowa.

Which mediocre older horse will assume the #2 spot in the handicap division now that Heatseeker is gone?

We are running out of medicore horses!!!!!!!!

Pretty soon we will only have truly-bad horses.

Similar to DT.....if the VI doesn't shut up soon we will only have truly-bad posters.

a)what? b)yes. c)me/some owners/some trainers. d)Fair enough

the way I see it, you have Heatseeker who is particularly suited to the synthetic courses.
He is probably the best in the division at that point of the season. Early or not. Not only was the horse given the miracle of having main-track stakes and their purses races run over synthetic courses in California, he gets the Breeders Cup there as well. To add to the miracle, he is well bred for the synthetics and absolutely loves it, while some of his top "name" competition are better on dirt.

The whole season for a horse like that is at least in my opinion, carefully campaigned around coming into the Breeders Cup in top form, hopefully knocking out a few stakes on the way.

If things go well he is 1st or second in the BC Classic and a contender for HOY. -Even relatively lightly raced, and even if he skips the Del Mar main track in favor of a turf prep, or coming in off a layoff.

shipping him to Oaklawn, to grind it out on a speed favoring dirt track is foolish in that situation. Again IMO.

That is my perspective DaHoss.

You are entitled to your perspective, and your opinion.
