How about PATHETIC

hockey2315 06-26-2008 01:27 PM

The Moother Goose is really sad - even though the quality of the field is probably better than the Suburban, at least that race has 8 horses. . .

Im still debating if it's sad or funny. Why wouldnt more trainers take a shot for a pecentage of the purse?? Never understood that. Coming in 3rd or 4th in the MG would be equal to winning an allowance race, right?

You could have 100 horses in the race. When A.P. Arrow is the class of a Grade 1 field, PATHETIC is only a starting point.

hockey2315 06-26-2008 01:37 PM

I'm far more concerned with having a good betting race. . .

tiggerv 06-26-2008 01:39 PM

4 horse field

Even Curlin drew 9 others in the Foster.

Linny 06-26-2008 02:01 PM

Glad I didn't make plans to go to Belmont this weekend. Dreadful.

Antitrust32 06-26-2008 02:10 PM

Proud Spell can win the 8th and come back to win the 9th.... this edition of the Surburban is the most pathetic Grade I historic race ever!

Good point. The idea that one of those nags is going to be a Grade I winner makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth. At the same time, I thought the Mother Goose would have a fuller field too. I'm a fan of both Proud Spell and Music Note, but jeez, four horses?

Sightseek 06-26-2008 02:58 PM

At least the Meadow Star v. Lite Light produced something good despite a 4 horse field!

Exactly my first thought. Wow.

lemoncrush 06-26-2008 03:25 PM

what the hell is Pletcher doing with Circular Quay?
He was working like clockwork at Churchill for 6 weeks, skipped the Stephen Foster and has been working at belmont the past 3 weeks, assuming for the race on Saturday.

Obviously he's no monster, but in this handicap division, he has to be able to be competitive in a filed like the suburban.

they should just put her in the 9th race and win the bigger of the 2 purses.

opusone 06-26-2008 03:37 PM

Tiago is better suited for dirt, why is he in the Suburban?
Plus some of us could use the points for RTTBC.

ateamstupid 06-26-2008 04:49 PM

For the record though, the rest of Saturday's card at Belmont is very good.

Indian Charlie 06-26-2008 04:59 PM

Any thoughts on the 2nd Dutrow horse in there?
Or Harlington?

You're right - the cards at Belmont and Hollywood on Saturday are really nice for betting.

Not interested in the "other" Dutrow horse.

But Harlington is interesting. Frail little horse, but no doubt he is bred to be class. He probably got something out of his last race, and besides, you could totally give him the mud excuse. He's been putting in solid works. And if he returns to (very) old form, running 4th to Invasor would still probably put him 27 lengths ahead of this field.

Because he's based in Socal and is in the Hollywood Gold Cup.

i agree with that, why not ship him in for this... he is going to be 4 or 5-1 at hollywood on sat, if he was here vs these he'd be 9-5

hockey2315 06-26-2008 07:12 PM

Why should they ship him across country? Especially when the BC will be on a synthetic surface.

for a grade 1 win

hockey2315 06-26-2008 07:14 PM

Isn't that why they're running in the Gold Cup? . . and he already has 2 G1s.

he would be heavy favorite at belmont...
at hollywood he will be lucky to be the 3-4 choice...
a grade 1 is a grade 1, why not ship in and stay for the whitney and woodward, everything in ny looks to be coming up soft, TIAGO COULD BE A BEAST ON THE EAST COAST. he is clearly better on dirt, as his 110 beyer and game victory over Heatseeker proves.

o and if the placed him correctly, he could have 5-6 grade 1 wins...

whitney
woodward
JCGC
who is running in those races ?

texarkana 06-26-2008 07:21 PM

I agree shipping Tiago doesn't make much sense.

But why the heck did they ship Student Council to Hollywood when they could have shipped him half the distance to NY for an easier race???

that's not how things work. . .

that doesn't really have anything to do with it. . . do you realize what it takes to ship a horse across the country? do you realize that they can't just ship him there and leave him for a few months?

a win in the suburban does not cover it ?

so he's a lock to win? there's no reason to ship him across the country when there's a perfectly good race at home - the goal isn't the suburban or the gold cup anyways. . .

ok, a lock, i guess nothing is a lock and i have learned that.
but what would his odds be ?
he would be very tough to beat.

I KNOW WHAT THE GOAL IS, BUT THERE IS NO PROBLEM PICKING UP GRADE 1'S ON THE WAY, DAM HOCKEY, your getting me all emotional
heatseeker is a freak on synthetics,

It's convenient to keep a horse on their home circuit. I'd probably do the same if I owned Tiago just so all my friends can watch him with me, although I agree that Tiago would destroy the Suburban field.

hoss come on ? the division sucks, look at the suburban, i mean i joke about commentator but dam, he actually is legit for the whitney, especially against horses like the ones who are in the suburban
