GREAT JOB !!!

VJS is numero uno! He called the debut of one of the first horses I ever had at Gulfstream in '03 and I hear the stretch call of that race everytime I hear VJS call a race.

Coach Pants 06-16-2008 01:27 PM

I'm sure the opposing connections loved the call as well.

ateamstupid 06-16-2008 02:11 PM

**** Jim Rome.

It's impossible for Rome to not have one (or both) of the following:

1) A parent that was highly abusive (in some way)

2) A personality disorder

The video seems like fun T.V. etc., but actually it's shows he is sick. Everette is asking him for one thing. Once Rome finds out what the guy wants the most(to stop calling him Chris,) he refuses to give him it. That is opposite of what mentally healthy people would do.

Mentally healthy people usually dont
egg-on pro football players to beat the crap out
of them. I guess Rome thought Jim Everett was
a light-weight, which he may have been in football.

Interviewing is not pro football. He found that out...
Laying on his back. I dont really listen to the guy
that much anymore so I dont know if he has grown
up.

That's cool, I just don't know anyone that watches/listens to him.

Coach Pants 06-16-2008 03:53 PM

Oh wow the 10,000 Rome listeners get to hear about horse racing. Get those idiots in the pools.

KY_Sasquash 06-16-2008 03:53 PM

I love Rome and his show. The jungle is awesome and filled with many a personality disorder. I think it's great that he's changed his tune on horse racing. He actually promotes it going into great detail about the first time "Manny" won and the excitement and exhilaration that he felt. That type of plug will do more for the game of horse racing rather than any commercial or gimmick.

DogsUp 06-16-2008 03:54 PM

I cannot stand Jim Rome. I never have liked him. But it is good to have him in horse racing.

i think you would be surprised at the calls he get about racing now. he's on over 200 stations nationally.

I used to watch his TV show and I couldn't stand him. I don't like being talked down to by a guy with no discernable talent.

I'm with you here. Wasn't the slightest bit interested during the "Chris Everett" days. Then a few years ago, moved to Jacksonville, away from Mike and the Mad Dog, and had no choice but to listen. It took a while, but I finally got it. He's actually changed alot and is definitely not what his reputation indicates. He covers many touching and heart-warming sports stories, and does it the right way. The "smack" stuff in only a part of what he's about, and even that grows on you after a while.

I will.

He may have grown up.
He just seemed so full of himself.

The callers used to be horrible though.
Of course one can turn it off during that segment.

Coach Pants 06-16-2008 04:44 PM

Get Sirius. The cost is equal to feeding a starving African kid.

I think he has gotten a lot better. At the time that video was made, I don't think he was capable of having some empathy for others, and now he seems to(or atleast he has learned to act that way.) Some of the stuff he talks about though are really odd. I don't hear him on the radio anymore, but occasionally I see him on ESPN. The other day, he was talking about the new coach of UCLA Football. Rick Neuheisel was auctioning something off for charity, and it wasn't selling (or for not much.) He offered to allow the buyer to call the 1st offensive play against USC. I don't know why that's important to ROME to bring up. Does a national audience really care about that?

i can't either. he always sounds like such a smart ass-and the whole world just bothers him somehow. huge ego, with a mouth and an attitude to match.

theiman 06-16-2008 06:51 PM

FYI

Vic had knee surgery today. I believe it was for a torn meniscus.
Hopefully he will be back on Wednesday.

Get well soon VJS

the radio show is not like the tv show. the callers are the silliness between the his interviews, which are usually good.
i can get a laugh from the silliness and "i didn't know that" from the interviews.
VJS has to be a "clone" to make that race call friday night.:D

Just got home. Feeling a little sore and groggy. Doc said everything went fine. Thanks for the good thoughts. Looking OK for being back on Wed. If not Frank Miramahdi warming up in the bullpen.

Does Frank do a good Vic racecall? I'm sure he does. He could do "you" the whole card and you can stay home and sip Margarita's on the couch and heal up.

CSC 06-16-2008 07:47 PM

I liked Vic's call in the Round Table, when he said they were going along a pretty quick clip...and then he noticed they were going 25.60 and said well they are not going that quick...you can hear the chuckle in his voice while he said that.

Vic...this means you should be ready to win a major golf tournament next month:eek:

Coach Pants 06-16-2008 08:35 PM

Frank's a strong mimic. You figure by now he'd work the Peter Griffin. He could make some serious $$$ with that one.

Certainly enough have said it "about" my calls. Thought it was time to work it into the call.

Speaking of the rest. How good was Secretariat? Laffit once told me that Sham was one of the five best horses he ever rode.

I've decided that Secretariat was so good that I will no longer use him for a comparison to anything equine performance related. Its just too unfair to today's equine athletes.

Heal well Vic.....Ice Ice and more Ice with elevation is so simple but the best thing you can do to accelerate the healing. Good Luck with your recovery...
