Record Keeping in Excel?
 

I'm going to finally try and keep records of my wagers over the second half of the year. Does anyone have an excel version of a way to do this?

I'm tinkering around with it myself, but it looks pretty raw. I wondered if anyone had something to share that might be more "professional."

Any others ideas - brainstorming on record keeping?

I think it's easier to just use a word document. . . I do it sort of like this:

Track - Conditions

Race - Distance/Surface - Race Conditions - Wager - Net result

Race - Distance/Surface - Race Conditions - Wager - Net result

Race - Distance/Surface - Race Conditions - Wager - Net result

Track - Wagered: Returned: Net:

Day - Wagered: Returned: Net:

Month - Wagered: Returned: Net:

Does anyone on here keep records or is it really like less than 5% of players that actually do it. That would be my guess.

I would think that most people on here who are serious keep records.

last year I kept track and started to this year, but have fell a little behind. I have a VERY basic Excel file that I use. Shoot me a PM if you want me to send you a copy.

I keep records on Excel. Pretty rough. I am sure Scav is more adept with Excel than I am.

They serve their purpose for me.

I keep records in Photoshop.

Nope. Thanks - I'll look into it. My system works pretty well for me though.

It's fairly close to Excel compatibility and a good package.

Excel is a killer program.

Can be used for so many things.

i use a notebook and pen...
is anything wrong with that ?

You can vomit on a notebook.

Vomitting on bytes of stored e-memory is
much more difficult.

you can run windows on a mac. or microsoft makes a version of office to run in osx.

I know but I heard it has a lot of bugs. . .

i run xp using parallel on my laptop. other than the usual windows glitches it runs fine when i need it.

don't know how the office suite runs in osx. just know it's available.

Ya. . . that's the thing - I never have glitches with the mac programs so I don't want to corrupt things by putting any microsoft stuff on.

I still dont have the hang of using the new version
2007. Hell I cant even use Word properly in the 2007 Office version.

excel is great. whatever improvement you think it needs is actually already imbedded. you just haven't figured out where how to find it. parenthetically, neither have i. you just need to know a scavs.

i have no gripe with microsoft.

but i do like the support i get with apple. i've hauled my laptop into their local store for multiple free classes and 2x for specific issues i was too dense to work out on my own.

it's a lot better then trying to talk it out on the phone with india.

I have thought about going to a Mac.
Just cant bring myself to it.
I really do think it is just a matter of being older.
I am just not as flexible mentally.

And I had found so many neat things on excel(like you said)
It was like opening X-mas presents all the time.
I just get frustrated with the new format.
The new looking bar at the top is so foreign visually.

use the 2007 version of excel)

Again probably my brain has become addicted to
a certain visual and just cant switch easily.

If they changed the DRF format drastically I would be
unable to bet the few races I do.

Six years later, a few weak attempts to do this, recent months of dumb betting and recently hearing Barry Meadow on Steve's show... I am finally motivated to do this correctly.

I no longer have that email from Scav (thanks man) - anyone keeping track via Excel, etc? Any help/direction is appreciated.

Don't really have any tips, but kind of ashamed by my advice to just use a word document way back then. . . I use the Mac equivalent of Excel--Numbers--now. . .

I'm ashamed six years later I was going to post the same post asking for help before having a feeling of deja vu...and realizing I never followed thru.

Still stuck on PC over here.

It's never too late to start. The good news is that the newest versions of Excel (2010 or 2013) have been improved to a great degree. They now have a million line cap instead of 65536, so you could potentially put everything in one file if you wanted to. I would however reverse sort it so that your most recent entries are at the top of the sheet.

I've been keeping track of my wagers in Excel format for several years now. It takes some diligence depending upon the level to which you'd like to record data. Here's a screen clip of my spreadsheet with one line of sample data.

I've been in the same boat for years. Dabbled on/off with excel, access, etc.

In Feb of this yr, got 2 nice hits. Decided to just do it. The major stumbling block is entering the data off the tickets and keeping track of the winners. Online betting services are easy - most allow you to export and save to excel or csv format...

For winners - I always bring a small digital audio recorder ($30) with me now - get a winner - flip it on , record - good to go...

For taking care of our losing tickets,,,The secret is treat the tickets as "receipts"

Its a 2-step process:

1) Get a real scanner - Fujitsu =IX500 deluxe bundle- about $440 online

This puppy scans 25 pages/min flawlessly. Works perfect with our parimutal tickets. You can save to adobe or other formats...

2) Use another program (neat receipts, quickbooks)that takes receipts and can import this data directly into excel.Its not really that hard and once you get setup - no more boxes of losers either.
