By my calculations, that is an extra 21 million into the purses EACH YEAR. and they are separating based on total handle, which Arlington smokes all the other garbage
They are saying it could DOUBLE purses, that would mean maidens would be running for 56k, HELLO BETSY |

Nine of the 2008 top 10 sires of IL-bred are dead or pensioned. Friendly Lover should be seeing some serious action.

Chris Block gets some good race mares, breeds them in KY to decent stallions, and then drops them in Illinois. I would have thought that Fort Prado would be standing in Illinois but I guess not..... |
This makes it sound like it was only a two year tax?

How the tracks choose to spend the 40% that must go towards the physical plant is interesting too. Besides a few more TVs, etc, Arlington may have marble bathrooms before long, but I hope they designate some of the money to backstretch improvements for all the workers. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=203654&src=109 |
That is great news. I can honestly tell you that racing was dying a slow painful death in Louisiana before the casinos. We have QH's and a top level allowance race was running w/ a pure of 5k, and now they are between 20-25k. Heck even low level claimers are running for 20k. It has really saved racing here. It is now worth it, and you can make money running horses down here.
|
Its just a shame that the horse racing industry has to rely on the casinos to survive. Maybe they should go take a look at how the casino patrons get taken care of, that might have something to do with why they are prospering.
