2yo's of '08

Soon it will be getting to be the time of year when some nice 2yo's start showing up in the entries....I think TAP will be getting more of his to the winners circle than he did last year...I also suspect that Stanley Hough has some nice babies in his barn.

Let's just hope that Hough can resist the urge to CUT the colts; at least till the end of the summer.

ateamstupid 05-28-2008 06:31 PM

Looking forward to Mr Mistoffelees' next run.. :D

I was at the Oklahoma this morning. It's scary out there. It's busier than August.

arulus 05-28-2008 09:20 PM

I admittedly have no finger on the pulse of 2 year old racing. xD The only two who have popped onto my watch radar are Mister Mistoffelees and Nicanor. Poor little Nicanor; second siblings always have it tough.

asudevil 05-28-2008 09:22 PM

Watch out.....

....for Saarland's first crop.....They look nice.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-28-2008 09:24 PM

The DT stock has now hit it's 52 week low after that last comment.

GFY

TitanSooner 05-28-2008 09:28 PM

It has now risen after that last comment.

Danzig 05-28-2008 09:28 PM

for those who had enough hype about saarland when he was 'running', now his get are hitting the track. ah, hilarity shall ensue...

amazing what three little letters can accomplish.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-28-2008 09:34 PM

Saarland will be standing stud in a 3rd world country three years from now.

ateamstupid 05-28-2008 09:36 PM

Where are Smarty's two-year-olds? I thought offspring usually hit the track four years after a horse retires?

The Indomitable DrugS 05-28-2008 09:39 PM

The Smarty Jones offspring have looked pretty subpar in juvenile sales.

However, in comparison to Saarland, he is Mr. Prospector

blackthroatedwind 05-28-2008 09:44 PM

Not a lot of positive word on the Smarty Jones progeny.

ateamstupid 05-28-2008 09:47 PM

Thanks. I just haven't seen any, and was perplexed.

Bred in 2005, born in 2006, 2YO in 2008.

I saw a couple this morning.

That's what I thought.

I didn't expect anything great, and I'm actually hoping they flop.

I am shocked that nobody has called dibs on this gem of a signature yet.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-28-2008 09:53 PM

There have been a few shockingly impressive young stallions in the juvenile sales season.

Sky Mesa's 1st crop was an embarassment - he's really got a few that can run in this his 2nd crop though.

dalakhani 05-28-2008 09:56 PM

How have the Lion Hearts looked?

I thought he was a really mediocre horse, and his progeny have been too.. Not saying you're wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it.

In the Hollywood 2yo race that Backbackbackgone scratched out of (the one Drugs was discussing in another thread), the winner was a Lion Heart 2yo trained by Doug ONeil named Azul Leon.

thanks. I will have to pull the replay. I think he will do quite well as a stallion especially at that fee.

The Indomitable DrugS 05-28-2008 10:37 PM

Lion Heart has several who look like they have talent.

However, it figured he would.

The most shocking freshman stallion I'd say has been City Place.

He's an unraced son of Storm Cat out of Glitter Woman.

More than a few of his offspring have sold for insane amounts - and the dams of his expensive ones were about one step away from the glue factory.

He has two of them that can't miss. One is headed to Japan and the other is with a trainer at the Fair Hill training center.

Spanish Steps (unraced full brother to Unbridled's Song) has had some decent ones too that I've seen. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Friends Lake two year olds hit the track.

PPerfectfan 05-29-2008 12:08 AM

I am so looking forward to the Pleasantly Perfects !! A colt of his ran 2nd at first asking at Belmont. Winner was much the best, but it was sloppy and 5f aint exactly gonna be a distance for his babies. I also dont think we will see many running till the fall either. I dont think they will be win early type of horses. But just wait till the races get longer !! :D What can I say, I just love the big guy. Cant you tell by my screename? ;)

They look really good. I think he has a good chance to be leading freshman sire. Pletcher has one who won very impressively at Keeneland. Her name is Pride. She ran in the 1st race on April 25th if you want to watch it.

The horse that finished second to her that day runs back at Churchill TODAY!

XIIPointStables 05-29-2008 06:22 AM

It says the Lionhearts are 5 for their first 10. That's with zero repeat winners. Not too shabby.

Yesterday was not as bad as it has been...turf course opens for training tomorrow....main track opens for training 6/23...very early this year cause of the number of horses up here.

TheSpyder 05-29-2008 06:40 AM

Is there some web site that features 2YO activities? How do you keep up with all of them? Perhaps you guys are more connected to the sport but it would be very interesting to keep up with them.

Spyder

I thought that guy was driving a well known guy around.

I heard about the main track.

I take it one of the well known guys managed to survive without the assistance of a top notch wingman?
