The anything but Big Brown, Andys, polls, government, drugs thread
Come on people. There has to be more to racing than that.
I'll start... Less than 8 weeks until Saratoga....ahhhhhh. I fell better already. I missed last year, but really hope to make it this year. Nothing better. Morning workouts, followed by show at Siros with Harvey and Andy...damn, forgot that name is not allowed. Anyway, followed by a day of great racing featuring Carolina BBQ and Steve doing his ATR show and then off to a night of good food and fun. And even if I'm not there listening to the Siro's show and catching the action is just great! Spyder |
Churchill and the Kentucky horsemen suck balls.
|
but I have to know...what kind of peppermints does Big Brown like?
|
Let's talk about Casino Drive, for God's sake.
5-2? |
If Dutrow is spending 5K a month on mints - what are they laced with?
|
I was at Monmouth with my 5 year old son yesterday and their was an IEAH horse heading to the track. My son looks at me and says "look daddy that horse has the same silks as Big Brown". Upon hearing the story, let's just say that his mother was less than thrilled. On the other hand I thought it was pretty cool.
|
title says no drugs there drugs. what are YOU doing here? :D
that's a lotta money for mints. they must have not one, but two drops of retsyn. |

OK, we're starting to roll here. No Kent D or his wife, Andy S can post without mentining himself and anything about anthing else is legal , inclusing legal drugs. Steve B insights is OK. Interesting Morte perspectives is AOK as he's having a hard time in the E wing.
Let her roll............... Spyder |
I think Morty's been in the E wing long enough. Time to upgrade him to the D wing.

I think your son spotting silks is simply a result of the time that you have spent tutoring him at his memory skills. It's not all fathers that spend so much time working on useful life skills. Most dad's take their kids to the park where it does nothing to help them in the future. You my friend, are teaching life skills...

I was out of town over the weekend and didn't see The Preakness until I got home. I settled in to watch the replay and as they were loading into the gate, my 4yr old walks into the room and says, "That's Big Brown, he's number 7". After what she said registered with me, I asked my wife if my daughter watched the race already. She said my daughter sat on the couch and watched for about an hour on Preakness day...by herself.
Nothing bad can come from it MaTH. Your son and my daughters will grow up more well rounded than their peers. No matter what your wife thinks, he is learning, using his mind and imagination and that is all you can ask at that age. Sorry, I used the BB words against the wishes of the thread title. I will suspend myself from posting. |
When I saw MaTh's post I did think of your kids. I was going to post something but figured you'd get to it.
My mom took me to the races when I was 6 and I can still remember it some 46 years later. You can still post Bigs as several have veered. Spyder |

Kids nowadays are truly amazing. My 3 YO daughter loves to watch the races with me, and has since she was a baby. Early on whenever she heard Durkin's voice on the replay show she would stop whatever she was doing and come to watch with me. I have about 50 stories already, but I'll share just a few.
She already knows what number matches what color saddle cloth. Now, I'm a NYer (well NJ now, but I grew up going to the NYRA tracks) so I'm not even used to the colored saddle cloths yet, as they are still fairly new to the circuit. Call me old fashioned but I still like the black. Anyhow, the other night I flipped to TVG to watch a race from Hollywood and there was a Harness race on. My daughter says to me "Daddy, that's not right, the 8 is supposed to be pink". I laughed (and cried) for about 15 minutes. Fortunately, my wife loves horses too so she's not bothered by this stuff in the least. One day last year, when she was 2, I was putting a new address into the GPS and she asks me "Daddy, are you making a bet?". That's not good. Lastly, the horse we currently have shares in has been the number 9 the last 2 times she has raced, including a win 2 races back that seems to be sticking with my daughter. Now, everytime she sees the number 9 on the track she says "Daddy, is that Sweetie?". We brought her to Belmont at 2 months and Saratoga for 10 days at 3 months. She looks forward to the 2 weeks we spend up there every year and recognized Durkin's voice right away. Now whenever the horses go into the gate she'll say "and they're off". Enjoy them and the amazing gift that they are. |
