Superstitions at the track
Does anyone have any that come into play at the track? I'm not a superstitious person by nature, but i have my idiosyncrasies or quiks or whatever you'd chose to call them.....
Someone else can go first..... I'll be polite. :D |

Don'tchaknow???? It's "bad luck" to be superstitious. Please don't even bring this topic up cause it will cause you "bad luck" if you believe in superstitions. Superstitions DO NOT exist!!! DTS |
Okay but what about good luck? I mean superstitions aren't necessarily bad - right?
... or maybe they are. Never mind.:p |
Miss S C,
As you can easily see, I'm not superstitious. All I can tell you is that if you believe in superstitions, it will bring you "bad luck". Likewise, if you don't believe in superstitions, you'll have "good luck." See? Now, I hope that is clear. Good luck! |
I have quite a few actually. I tend to be very superstitious. One of my main ones is that if I have a winning day, the next time I return, I refuse to sit in the same chair. I figure the good fortune was all used up.
I also try to never take my sunglasses inside the OTB with me, I rarely have a good day if I forget to take them off and leave them in my truck.:( I also don't have as many good days if I wear a hat to the OTB. I think the hat tends to restrict the blood flow to my brain, and Lord knows I need all the help I can get in that department.:D |
Well I'm glad i'm not the only one..... I have a few.
Betting - Always place bets at a window where there's a man. I know, i know..... it sounds awful but truly if there are long lines and one short one? For me it's bad luck. It all started with Pavo in the Wood..... :D Loyalty - This one I can't help, and it borders on being absurd at times. The 2004 Hollywood Derby was the first time i went to the track and first visit to the paddock. With Distinction, Hendrix, Big Squeeze, Good Reward, On the Acorn, etc. ANY of these boys run on a day when I'm at the track? i play them. Word combinations - I don't know where the hell this came from but I love the names that are cluttered and wordy. The first time I ever saw Proud Tower Too was at Oak Tree (last October?) and I fell in love with him and his name. It's stupid but true. Played him again in the On Trust last December and he's been awfully good to me (see loyalty - it applies) quite a few times. Two Turn Trick, Two Turn Halo, I'm Fast Too (local claimers - hooray!)... no idea why but those three word names with Too or Two jump off the page at me and it takes effort not to play them. Love the names where the words run together too. By the way yes, I was apparently dropped on my head at some point.....:D |

Just imagine choosing which chair you want before running out to your truck to lose the sunglasses and hat while i'm going from line to line cause they're all women behind the windows..... We'd make quite the couple. |
Well I really don't except that I love it when a certain person who shall remain nameless(Seattleallstar), tells me a horse is a piece of ****, the horse will eventually win a grade one, the poor mush just cant get anything right.

LOL...won't place a bet with a woman teller huh?? too funny. 99%of the bets I place, I used the machine. IF, and thats a BIG IF, I use a teller, they get one shot and one shot only. If the bet loses, they are out. When using the machines, if it rejects my money the first time I try to put it in, NO WAY IN HELL do I try again. Off to another machine. I am a little more liberal with losing machines, but when I hit a race using a certain machine, I ride that machine until it goes cold.:o |
and as far as the marraige proposal...I don't know.
You seem to love ACE, and I love English Channel.....could be a problem there. BUT....if you can look me in the eye and swear to me with all your heart, that you truly miss watching Megahertz race, we may be able to work something out.:D |
Loyalty...yeah, I've got that one going on as well. It almost paid off big time this weekend with Island Fashion. Of course, after this weekend, I have to add Wonder Lady Anne L. to my list as well. I also have a lot of loyalty toward Dominguez and Solis...if I am torn between two horses and one of these guys is aboard, I'll go with them.

Ace and English Channel though..... hmmmm, must ponder. (Cover your ears, Ace..... just for a sec). I DO like English Channel. He just doesn't have that tragic quality that my boy does but he's awfully good. (You can uncover them now Ace.):D Agree with me that Powerscourt is the only horse in history to have won the Arlington Million two years in a row and my heart shall forever belong to you. :p (Uh oh...... am having Jamie Spencer flashbacks again. Tell it to stop!). |
if three favorites in a row in at a major track, i throw out the ml favorites in the next races when making a pick 3-4,6
|
blue zebra f-301 pen. no other pen will do. a backup in the car in case the ink runs out. i have actually turned around, drove 15 minutes back to my place to get my pens. borderline ocd.:D
|
never take a picture of the horse you bet on before he steps on the track...
|
i usually use my stainless steel, ingraved, Cross pen with blue ink or my Parker Vectra pen with blue gel-ink.
ALWAYS blue ink to contrast the black ink of the racing form or program. |
OK...truth be told.
I wear my underwear inside out and put my pants, shirt, and special cap on backwards. I also have my sneakers on the wrong feet. I'm not too difficult to find at the track. I've only seen twenty-six people at Saratoga that have the same "look". Now that I've put out the "secret" to reverse a losing streak, I expect to see another twenty-six...maybe more. |

Hey, I might just be starting a new fashion trend.
DTS leads...everyone else follows. I didn't know that Hollywood knew about the "look". Someone must have seen me at Belmont. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Please forgive me if I decline to follow your lead and dress accordingly..... I am not worthy. :p |
Miss S C,
LOL! Do you wear big hats? You know...the ones with the big brims... I'm not taking credit for them unless they're on backwards or look like Carmine Miranda. Anything to break a bad streak. And don't forget to look for sneakers on the wrong feet. |

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DG No..... not usually, but anything for you. :p |
Miss Storm Kitty,
That is certainly the look! When you samba up to the window to place your bet, give it an extra wiggle. Might help if the head gear is on backwards. Hey, you asked for "superstitions". Carmine's words, "I make my living playing with bananas." Now I might just have to take up juggling lessons.:D If you show up at Toga, I think lots of DTers will spot you easily and come over to say "hello". See you there someday. Remember...reverse the high heels. Anything for a winner. |
Note to Ms. Storm Cat....if you are gonna look like that, I will have to regretfully pass on the marriage proposal:(

See you there someday..... if you need me, I'll be at Del Mar. I'll save the special outfit for you! Note to self..... take Samba lessons. |

Popsicles are just fine. And if I ever get to Del Mar and see a hot chickita wandering around looking like Heidi Klum, wings and all, doing the samba...I'll get over my bashfulness and come over to introduce myself....though I think there will be a line all the way to the grandstands. Kev, This lady has a sense of humor that will keep you on the floor. Honeymoon at Meadowlands? |
