Rudeboyelvis 05-14-2008 08:06 PM

Shocking....

tiggerv 05-14-2008 08:10 PM

Where can I wager on BB not racing again after the Belmont?

pgardn 05-14-2008 08:11 PM

Hopefully he passes those hoove genes
on.

cowgirlintexas 05-14-2008 08:36 PM

Wonder if they will feel the same if he by chance loses the Preakness and Belmont.. Stranger things have happend..

Hickory Hill Hoff 05-14-2008 08:37 PM

I'll be shocked if he makes it to the Belmont.

Don't get me wrong, he should jog versus this group on Saturday...but Casino Drive stands in his way on June 7th as well as the mile and a half distance.

slotdirt 05-14-2008 08:50 PM

I'm with HHH on this one, I just don't have a superior feeling about the Preakness being an injury-free race.

Coach Pants 05-14-2008 08:55 PM

Uh that is just stinkin thinkin.

He'll race a few more years. Maybe 5 or more.

Danzig 05-14-2008 09:02 PM

really? only one year? i am so surprised.

Danzig 05-14-2008 09:05 PM

maybe they could just go ahead and have a first mare presentation rather than bothering with a trophy.

XIIPointStables 05-14-2008 09:09 PM

He's done enough...

pick4 05-14-2008 09:15 PM

Dutrow Jr. seemed pretty confident about Big Brown's chances in this Saturdays Preakness in the following article published in Wednesday's New York Post.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/05142008..._us_110711.htm

NO ONE'S SUPPOSED TO BEAT US

May 14, 2008 -- LOUISVILLE - I can't wait to get out of here and head to Baltimore. But I sure am glad I came! It's like Saratoga. You can't wait to get there, then you can't wait to leave.

I see Gayego (17th in the Derby) is running in the Preakness. That's fine with us. They say he had a bad trip. I think he just got outrun - and it's going to happen again. That horse ran terrible in the Derby, flew back to California, now he's flying east again. That's enough for me to know. They're just completely putting him up against it.

They can't beat us now. There is not a horse in that field that's supposed to beat Big Brown. He should like Pimlico. It's a speed-favoring track, always has been. As long as he keeps going the way he is now, he'll be going into the race good, even if it is off just a two-week break. We're just going to have to see how the horse handles it. There's no way of me saying beforehand.

Brown looks like the best horse, and that's what you need to win, as long as he breaks good and gets things his way again. It doesn't look like there's much speed in the race. If that's the truth, maybe we'll just have him come running the first part, so he can get position and save ground. We might use different tactics than we did in the Derby. It depends on his post and all that kind of stuff.

Hopefully, we'll have another good day. He'll gallop this morning, then head for the airport.

Come on Rick, the Spa IS the place to be!

slotdirt 05-14-2008 10:16 PM

I just have to question the sanity or general mental acuity of anyone who would compare Baltimore to Saratoga.

slotdirt 05-14-2008 10:19 PM

Incidentally, I will decidedly not be rooting for this particular horse to win the Triple Crown should he make it that far.

Bobby Fischer 05-14-2008 10:23 PM

I hope this son of a gun stays healthy and wins the preakness. The Belmont could be the crown jewel of the series this year.

pick4 05-14-2008 10:33 PM

You guys completely missed the point of Dutrow Jr's comment.

He's glad that the Preakness is near. He knows he has the best horse. Dutrow Jr. is confident BB will win and wants to get out of Baltimore with the win and head home to prepare for the Belmont Stakes.

I actually found the post where I brought that to the board.

It's really a quote from the Sheik on why he retired Lamtarra after four starts and didn't bring him here for the BC. I kid you not.

Danzig 05-15-2008 06:31 AM

i remember that. so, the announcement is today-anyone think it's a farm other than darley? i found it interesting that darley was mentioned when iavarone was talking about the two week long purchase of big brown.

Linny 05-15-2008 06:37 AM

Rumor still has it that it's NOT Darley.

Darley buys horses and doesn't allow partners so if IEAH (or even Pompa for that matter, I guess) wish to maintain some level of interest, Darley is not their farm. IEAH has a small (about 12, I'm told) band of mares so I guess that they may want to hold an interest.

Danzig 05-15-2008 07:08 AM

if not them, then you'd next move to three chimneys, lane's end, or maybe claiborne-since they're the ones who stood boundary. guess we'll know by days' end.

It's not Darley. But I'm only allowed to say it on one message board and I already used up my allotment.;)

Darley doesnt own all of Any Given Saturday. While they prefer not to have partners on stallions, they'll make a few exceptions and that depends on who the potential partners are.

I still like it. It fits well in this racing age of "breeding first, racing second."

I actually hope he goes to Claiborne. I wonder if such a classy operation would deal with such swine. Business is business and keeping Danzig in the breed couldn't be a bad thing.
Three Chimneys hasn't been running to hot lately..I don't see them as a likely home but what the f do I know.

What makes them swine? They turned $3 million into $30 million in less than a year. Does this make them bad guys? Or do you hate them for Dutrow and/or Greg Martin?

Have a heart... Nobody has respect for success more then I but I have no use for cheats.. I have my share of vices cheating isn't one I ever thought was acceptable.

He is a very nice horse that could serve our sport well.. I just wish the silks were Claiborne and he was going home to be managed in a reasonable and responsible way after his limited 4 year old career.

Clearly terms like in the sports best interest and a well managed prudent stud career arent important to the chop house that is IEAH.. I assume whomever has the most dough on the table can get the horse to do whatever they need to do to recoup the investment. Horse people used to respect the industry that they made there money from. Nowadays its only important to earn once you have struck oil.

I don't see why breeders would rush out to breed to him considering Curlin will enter stud duty next year. Curlin to me has a much more attractive pedigree who has proven a heck of alot more in my eyes. Aren't these guys rushing the gun ya think?

Danzig 05-15-2008 12:29 PM

it's not as tho curlin can cover every mare out there. big brown will get his share...
also depends on what you're looking for out of a horse, and what you've got as far as mare, as to who you'd use for a stud.

parsixfarms 05-15-2008 12:58 PM

Does it strike anyone as odd that today is the day that they are announcing the stud deal? I know that the Wall Street guys want to "sell high," but if you had supreme confidence in the horse and his ability to win the Triple Crown, wouldn't you wait until after the Belmont until you finalized the stud deal? All he can do now is devalue himself (see Majestic Warrior and War Pass).

cakes44 05-15-2008 01:34 PM

I know very little about the breeding business,I can't think of too many reasons why someone would send a mare to Big Brown over Hard Spun while both are unknowns.

Maybe they think he wont ever be worth more that he is right now.
