Early Derby odds

Surprised that Tale of Ekati is that high and Big Truck that low.....must be a lot of "playing the name" money. Eight Belles is too low for me also. The rest is pretty much how I figured.....Cool Coal Man looks like the best value from the morning line.

but i'm still using her. gotta stick to my guns.:o

Eight Belles is way too low for sure.
Tale Of Ekati is about right imo. there is no way he can win.

I like Cool Coal Man too. Playing him at those odds. How can you not? :)

Don't you like Recapturetheglory?

fpsoxfan 05-03-2008 08:19 AM

Still going to take a small flier on Denis of Cork at 27-1.

GPK 05-03-2008 08:19 AM

If Tale of Ekati stays anywhere near those odds, I will put even more into my ticket on him than originally planned. I see a pace meltdown taking shape and I think he will just keep steadily advancing.

Would like to have some kinda clue as to who to maybe use with him in a smallish type exacta bet....but I'm clueless

You're live to 4 out of those 5.

Pyro is one I want to use in a box with him. Would like to find two more horses and do a $5 ex box.

Coach Pants 05-03-2008 08:41 AM

I didn't use Pyro in the double. I'm thinking his best racing is behind him and I just can't include him in any of my exactas when he'll be crushed in the exotics pool.

I just took the average prices at Pinnacle and TheGreek. Here's what I got:

1 Cool Coal Man 42
2 Tale of Ekati 26
3 Anak Nakal 55
4 Court Vision 17
5 Eight Belles 20
6 Z Fortune 16
7 Big Truck 45
8 Visionaire 23
9 Pyro 5.5-1
10 Col John 5
11 Z Humor 44
12 Smooth Air 31
13 Bob Black Jack 27
14 Monba 21
15 Adriano 30
16 Denis of Cork 24
17 Cowboy Cal 35
18 Recapturetheglory 34
19 Gayego 21
20 Big Brown 3

The two books are reasonably close on most, but there are some wide differences on a couple of horses. For example, Eight Belles is 15-1 at Pinny, 25-1 at TheGreek. Z Humor is 35-1 at Pinnacle, 52-1 at TheGreek. Denis of Cork is 27-1 at Pinnacle, 20-1 at TheGreek.

Big Brown is 5-2 at Pinnacle, 3.3-1 at TheGreek.

Well, that's why Jones is running her today!! Figured she'd have a better shot to hit the board and beat 17 or 18 slow males in the big one than beat his other filly!! He just put his large filly in the Derby.

if you like a melt down, pyro can pick his way throught traffic and smooth air could be there to pick up the pieces.
