this fruggin soccer match

no offense to soccer fans

better not ruin the derby pp draw show, I really enjoy watchin it every year

ateamstupid 04-30-2008 04:56 PM

This thing's going on for at least another 15 minutes. To be fair, there are way more people that care about Chelsea/Liverpool than care about the Derby draw show. They don't usually draw until about 5:30 anyway, so we should be fine.

cool and good point soccer is huge with the folks across the water, its like life or death for some of those cats

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-30-2008 04:58 PM

To be fair..... no one in this country cares about soccer.

You're wrong. Nobody gives a **** about AMERICAN soccer. There is a pretty large following of the Champions League.

slotdirt 04-30-2008 05:01 PM

By large he means 27 people in the greater tri-state area.

(Note: I love soccer, but I'd hardly say there's a large following of anything non-World Cup related in the United States)

Not in this neck of the woods, hockey isn't big here either......what's the Champions League?

I disagree. The Premiership and Champions League seem pretty popular, at least where I am. It's also a very dedicated following.. My guess is at least 60% of Premiership fans are watching this. What percentage of racing fans watch the Derby Draw? 25%?

Travis Stone 04-30-2008 05:07 PM

What's the population of soccer fans versus horse racing fans? Then you're percentages will make more sense.

I'm pretty sure there are more U.S. soccer fans than horse racing fans.

Travis Stone 04-30-2008 05:10 PM

I know zero soccer fans...

MLS scored a flat 0.2 on ESPN, Kentucky Derby an 18.2...

MLS is not soccer.

Bad example.

NoChanceToDance 04-30-2008 05:12 PM

As a Liverpool fan, that is a very depressing

I'm pretty sure a freaking soccer announcer wouldn't know any horse racing fans either.

Comparing MLS to the Derby is equally ridiculous.

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-30-2008 05:13 PM

Only soccer that makes sense to me is for kids, I'll take football in high school over it anytime!

IrishofNDMan 04-30-2008 05:13 PM

who cares about soccer. Soccer is huge worldwide, it is nothing here.

Travis Stone 04-30-2008 05:13 PM

I can't recall the last time a soccer match made the front page of any major United States newspaper... while horse racing tends to at least once or twice a year.

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-30-2008 05:14 PM

Just gotta love ESPN.....now, that's what really sucks!

The hell difference does that make in terms of what sport has more fans?

Travis Stone 04-30-2008 05:15 PM

I'm not disputing soccer on a worldwide scale, but on a US-base scale, I question its overall popularity, that's all.

It's not wildly popular in the U.S., but it's easily more popular than horse racing, which is barely a blip on the national sports scene.

I will say Seamus Malin is one of the best color commentators of any sport out there. Grew up watching him work the Cosmos games.

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-30-2008 05:22 PM
