Bad news for Benny The Bull

I spoke with Fabulous Strike's connections - they say he is doing quite well and they expect him to comeback to the races possibly as early as June.

What has FS been down with?

Will be good to see him back again.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-21-2008 04:40 PM

He had a lung infection and they wanted to give him a lot of time and bring him back slowly.

The Bid 04-21-2008 06:24 PM

I doubt Benny and FS will ever hook up. If Benny's owners have any brains they will try a 1 turn mile. I would love to see him try the grass once, but they would never attempt that.

FS should be exciting if he picks up where he left off.

Gander 04-21-2008 06:28 PM

I thought the punchline here would be something about a drug test.
Fabulous Strike? Nice. Forgot about him.

Man the sprinting division sucks right now if Benny the Bull is this dominant a horse.

jballscalls 04-22-2008 08:47 AM

Benny will mop him up!!

I just got off the phone with Benny and he said to please thank Fabulous Strike for all of the fan mail.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-22-2008 02:04 PM

Is there a single IEAH horsey you don't love?

I'm going right now to Benny's Deli for an antipasto salad and two Pepperoni balls...

This reminds me, I need to throw a first work back party for Subtle Aly. :p

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 12:24 PM

Fabulous Strike worked a bullet 5 furlongs in 58 and change at Penn National last Saturday and could return to the races in a statebred sprint stake at Presque Isle one week from today.

Indian Charlie 06-12-2008 12:35 PM

Midnight Lute wouldn't have too much problem with Benny either, that is if Baffert ever actually entered him in a race.

I don't think he's worked out though since March.

Every division sucks.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 01:29 PM

Even with the death of likely division champion Eight Belles - I happen to think the 3-year-old filly division is very deep.

There is a lot of real talent starting to come to the surface...

Indian Charlie 06-12-2008 02:10 PM

Puskita and her low debut BSF of 96 for starters. That is a filly to be excited about.

Her and the rest of the Indian Charlie fillies that have won recently.

division champ ? i think her tragic death might cost her that title.

He is saying that she would have won if she didn't pass, hell, she might even win anyways.....

Even with the death of likely division champion Eight Belles

maybe i am misunderstanding, but it seems to me like he is saying
she is the likely division champ

i am not taking anything away from her, but i just dont think she did enough.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 04:23 PM

Going undefeated through the season until a 2nd place finish in the Derby might be enough to carry her to a title.

You have to remember - even though the division appears loaded with up and coming types - that only means it will be harder for a single one to seperate themselves and dominate in the 2nd half of the season. Perhaps a Zaftig can - but we will see.

Perhaps the deepest older male division I ever remember was the year Favorite Trick won the horse of the year title - he did so because he cleaned out a laughable 2yo division while the older males took turns beating each other with 120+ Beyers to the winner almost left and right.

Indian Charlie 06-12-2008 04:38 PM

For another filly to win it, they'd have to win the distaff and at least two to three more grade ones, without taking much in the way of missteps.

Sentiment will likely win 8B the award.

She lost to Indian Blessing, though that was her layoff race.

I think there are some lesser known fillies out there that will make it difficult for Proud Spell to win the Eclipse.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 05:16 PM

And the fine undefeated Straight Man filly that Frankel bought up.

She is obviously in the mix as well.

ninetoone 06-12-2008 05:23 PM

Drugs, do you like Lethal Heat at all? I didn't catch her beyer at Hollywood last weekend, but it seemed like a nice effort & her only loss was a stumbled start.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 05:32 PM

I think she's solid but not spectacular.

Being by Unusual Heat - I doubt she will move up any on natural dirt either.

zafig has been super, but i would not even think of her right now, or just not yet... proud spell and maybe that darley filly if she continues to improve... EB does have the fact that the division is loaded, and they might all beat each other up, then they would have to step up and beat zenyatta. so maybe eight bells has done enough

what is wrong with losing to a champion ?

Danzig 06-12-2008 06:04 PM

i don't think eight belles has it sewn up, and wouldn't be surprised in the least if another filly got the nod. she only ran four months, not her fault obviously.
but several other talented fillies out there, and plenty of racing season left. now, if the rest of the division falls apart, maybe eight belles could get it.

The Indomitable DrugS 06-12-2008 07:20 PM

If they take turns beating each other the rest of the year EB will take it.

When you have a bunch of very good horses in a division - very rarely does one seperate themselves unless their connections pick their spots very carefully.

However, there are a couple of others that have been impressive lately.

No disrespect meant, but I don't see 8 belles winning her division. There are several Grade 1's to be won out there between now and the end of the year.. sadly, she can't win them. If a filly like Proud Spell can win just one.. maybe two more.. it's hers.

I really like The Vin Man if he can somehow repeat that 80 beyer from two back.

On Saturday.

ELA 06-17-2008 04:07 PM

I'm looking forward to his return. Let's hope he's healthy, fit, sound, etc.

The bottom line right now is that Benny The Bull is doing it, and Fabulous Strike has yet to, although he's getting ready to, hopefully. Like I said, if he's healthy, fit, sound, etc. -- great.

Same applies to Midnight Lute -- let's see him do it. I will say one thing -- last year, boy, when he did it, he sure did it well.

Eric
