Arlington Park Contest

I just wanted to share the good news that I qualified for the national handicapping championship at the contest at Arlington Park today. This will mark my fourth trip to the NHC and now with the tour in full swing will no doubt be the most exciting.

The second at Santa Anita (Power Blitz) at 20-1 and Aqueduct's eight (Temporary Saint at 11-1) were the key plays along with several single digit horses. I turned my starting bankroll of $60 into $166.

The guys I had talked to said there was a $44 horse at SA that came in and whoever had it was in good shape..very nice job

pweizer 04-05-2008 10:14 PM

There were at least 20 people who had that horse. I was just fortunate enough to follow ikt up with a few more.

I came in second at lone star today but I qualified for the Lone Star Championship Tournament in October which will determine berth in NTRA contest. I also had the second at SA with Dreysdale's horse with a $50 WPS.

You qualified with $166, I would have gotten that easily today, DAMN IT. I would have had Recapturetheglory and Tale of Ekati, per my lower thread.

Congrats Paul, that is awesome.

i am going to give the september contest a run again...

tiggerv 04-06-2008 12:46 AM

Those were great picks. However, with a $2WP format, Recapturetheglory and Tale of Ekati would have returned a combined $65.70 (They payed $73.70 and cost $4 each to bet at $2WP). To get to $166 is still not so easy.

Great job Paul.

Again, you did a great job Paul.. I would think a very small percentage played Recapturetheglory to win.

Paul

It was $2WP, I thought it was $5WP, like last year

Then yeah, I wouldn't have had a shot then because $166 is REALLY good, for that type format....

Danzig 04-06-2008 10:34 AM

congrats and good luck!

If you haven't read the latest issue of The Horseplayer Magazine, check it out. Paul writes an excellent diary of his experience at last January's NHC.

It gives some insight from a players perspective and it's a fun read.

pweizer 04-07-2008 08:07 PM

Thanks for the plug. It was a fun piece to write although they had to edit alot out to make it fit.

Paul

DerbyCat 04-07-2008 09:51 PM

Nice job, Paul! How many races do you play in a contest that like? It took 19 races for someone in the DT contest to make over $166 and that's with the $2WPS format

Congrats - you the man!

DC

pweizer 04-08-2008 07:10 AM

This contest was 15 races.

Paul

philcski 04-08-2008 08:14 AM

Great job!! I need to sit with you and learn your contest secrets. I've had zero success in them so far.
