War Pass Looks a little Washy to me.

Is it just me or does he look a little of today? Maybe I'm wrong, Lord knows I'm that way alot here of late.

packerbacker7964 04-05-2008 04:19 PM

Great effort after a 22 opening 1/4.

whodey17 04-05-2008 04:25 PM

well this horse has gone as far as he good under his own god given ability. he sure is a pretty horse. he just cannot get the 1 1/4.

Ogygian 04-05-2008 04:44 PM

Blistering fractions...no way he can get the derby distance...very disappointed in the closing time after going 1:11...after DOC not showing up in the Illinois Derby...hoping for "the bad cat"..EL GATO MALO to run a monster race...

Ogygian 04-05-2008 04:51 PM

Very poor ride by Flores...decent race by Bob Black Jack...

ateamstupid 04-05-2008 05:00 PM

Can we finally put to rest all those fantasies about this horse going ten furlongs? Even worse was Court Vision.. The horse had the race HANDED to him and said "No thanks, I suck."

Court Vision is a pack mule. What a horrendous performance.

Before people jump down your back, I am assuming you are speaking about Court Vision

Cajungator26 04-05-2008 05:04 PM

I still think Court Vision is the type who will suck up for 3rd or 4th in the Derby. *Shrugs*

ArlJim78 04-05-2008 05:10 PM

they looked like they were in quicksand coming home.
didn't look at the time or fractions but it wasn't visually impressive.
it looked like nobody wanted to win.

Travis Stone 04-05-2008 05:32 PM

Court Vision has zero excuse - dream setup.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-05-2008 05:33 PM

The final time was over one full second slower than the race prior - which was won by a horse who had made a career total of 22 starts and had never run a triple digit Beyer figure before.

letswastemoney 04-05-2008 07:27 PM

nearly all the of the 3 year olds colts stink in general

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-05-2008 08:00 PM

I'm still on the Elysium Fields wagon.

hoovesupsideyourhead 04-05-2008 08:07 PM

nice job today coach..first rate man!!!

CSC 04-05-2008 08:08 PM

I admit I never thought much of Tale of Ekati before, or atleast considered him as one of the top 3 yr olds in the division. For him to win this race, IMHO this race cannot be rated highly if you were to compare all the derby preps when they are all accounted for. He got an absolute perrrr_fect trip today, the race was presented to him on a platter and give his rider all the credit, he landed squarely on it. I don't see this being an overly impressive performance by any means!

hockey2315 04-05-2008 08:08 PM

EF needs to get to the Derby first

Riot 04-05-2008 08:21 PM

I don't ever recall being so underwhelmed by so many, so close to Derby.

If anybody wants to win a Kentucky Derby, just step right up. Please? Anybody?

skyfire 04-05-2008 09:46 PM

Big Brown, that's the one.

That's why I made sure I was in the paddock today just to get a glimpse of him, right?

I don't hate the horse at all, I just got annoyed at the comparisons to Slew, and the worship of him on this board. I said he was a very nice horse that wouldn't get ten furlongs, and he certainly hasn't made me regret saying that.

CSC 04-05-2008 10:29 PM

Well thank goodness for Barclay Tagg then, two for two this year against War Pass. What would have been the odds on that happening at the beginning of the year?

I thought he looked a little off. He didn't look as regal or "confident", and almost looked a little dull to me. Just my opinion. There was however a (short:rolleyes: ) time during the race that I thought his stride lengthened and he got in a really nice rhythm.

not an excuse. just an observation of the post parade from the feed. The most I ever thought of him was "king of the 2yo milers", and he ended up doing better today in terms of finish position than I thought he would. However, the race was poor of quality and 2nd place doesn't really say a whole lot. Wish he could have won. Hope he still runs in the Derby - could take 10 or 15-1 money.

Linny 04-05-2008 11:16 PM

I was watching him in the paddock and watched the race with Zito and LaPenta. I thought Nick was about to cry at the 1/16 Pole. He was bummed, but LaPenta seemed encouraged.
I thought that WP looked alot thinner than I remember him from his 2yo season. He was never a handsome horse but he always looked very powerful. He didn't look like the "monster" I saw at Monmouth last fall.

I take it he's running in the Lexington or Holy Bull?? Considering he stands at 36th on the graded earnings list with 70,000, he'll need to make some more money before Derby day.

I completely forgot about the earnings.

Looks like he'll go on the shelf for a few months. Barclay isn't one to rush them back.

I believe there is still a shot he shows up in the Blue Grass or more likely the Lexington.

i am 2, but is he even getting there ? why not run him back this weekend in this holy bull, kinda make sense ! since he did not run a lick last time out

Danzig 04-06-2008 09:05 PM

speaking of horses not doing well, signature move came out of the santa anita derby with a lung infection, and he bled. he's taking a few months off.

i'll be very surprised if elysium makes it to the derby.

Tagg is talking about running him this weekend in one of the preps, Hoss.

letswastemoney 04-07-2008 12:44 AM

Elysium Fields is in my RTTR stable and Tagg is one of my trainers. It would help me out a lot if he won.

Then again, I too am thinking the horse might need a break :(

Danzig 04-07-2008 07:00 AM

putting johnnie v in the my rttr is not helping one bit.

Didn't he just get over a lung infection?

From the Keeneland Barn Notes....
Trainer Barclay Tagg returned to Keeneland Sunday morning fresh off Tale of Ekati’s victory over War Pass in Saturday’s Wood Memorial (G1) at Aqueduct. Tagg said Tale of Ekati, owned by Charles Fipke, came out of the Wood in good shape and would arrive at Keeneland on Sunday.
Tale of Ekati will become one of three Kentucky Derby contenders currently under Tagg’s watch at Keeneland. Stablemates Elysium Fields, second in the Fountain of Youth (G2) but a well-beaten 11th in the Florida Derby (G1) on March 29, and Big Truck, upset winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) on March 15, also are at Keeneland awaiting their respective next starts. Tagg said both horses will work either Monday or Tuesday morning.

“Elysium Fields may go in the (Toyota) Blue Grass, and I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do with Big Truck. I’ve been traveling a lot lately, and I want to see both horses work before I make any decisions,” he explained.

He just overheated. Coa recognized the horse wasn't right and didn't press him which probably prevented heatstroke. By the night of the race he was fine. They are considering the Blue Grass and Arkansas Derby this weekend. More should be known after the work tomorrow.
