The boss is thinking class relief may be in store. Anyone ever been to River Downs?

If we still have her then, Ellis is still a long way away.

So next out is going to be a serious drop? :D

Will be serious in terms of running for far less than $50k, even though that is an inflated tag. She would fit numberswise with the 30 NW2 on opening day at Kee.

stonecutter 04-01-2008 03:54 PM

Indiana Downs should be opening and purses are a little better than RD.....
Believe class would be about equal.......Haw. should write a few condition races on the turf, too...............Maybe non winner of 2 for 25,000???????????

would that be too quickly back?

steve 04-01-2008 04:16 PM

the money is still green at river plus they have a turf course

stonecutter 04-01-2008 04:32 PM

Looking at RD .............no non winners of two......non winner of 3 ...25,000
claiming price ....going 1 mile.......purse is only 7000.00......did see anything at Indiana or Hawthorne..............................Race at RD is on May 6....1 mile on turf.....I presume that the Boss wants to run her on the turf.....

AeWingnut 04-01-2008 05:05 PM

I wonder how much that 1 1/8th race took out of her. She wasn't running the entire way though. Hope everything is ok but I kinda hope they find she has a dirt clod up her nose :o

it was disappointing. :(

just wonder if $20k claimers get vacations?

PLEASE try her in a sprint! She reminds me of Top Royelle, and TR came up with a huge effort when she was turned back to 5 1/2 at SAR.

Seriously though, would you and/or Steve be open to running her in a turf sprint if you can find a cheap one somewhere? Not sure where, as you guys probably know condition books way better than I do.

Sure as hell sounds like a good idea, but could become at the mercy of trip with her closing in these races, she will at least almost guaranteed get a good pace to chase 90% of the time....

AeWingnut 04-02-2008 12:45 PM

I don't understand. She gets used to going a route distance of 1 1/16th. (toss the mudd effort going 1 1/8th against tougher) She goes a mile and doesn't fire at all so the obvious conclusion is to go 5 1/2 on the grass?

I don't think she would like the turf course at Keeneland. Don't know what to think. Turn her out until Tampa opens next winter

GBBob 04-02-2008 01:10 PM

I think she would fit great at Arlington...Certainly fair to closers and big wide turns so she doesn't get too covered up and has room to get rolling. Plus you have the poly angle if races are off the turf and the level of competition is realistic

And I will get Douglas to ride her, he won't have a chance to say no. Douglas + KNS = WIN PICTURE....

Huh? Obvious conclusion? How about one person's suggestion?

So just because she's "used to" something means she has to do it for the rest of her life? She's of slight build, and smaller horses often perk up when they're turned back to sprinting (can't think of a more relevant example than Top Royelle, who's as small as they come). In my view, she's got a nice kick, but it gets dulled around two turns, so I think a turf sprint would be a worthwhile experiment if we found the right spot. Never said anything about that being the "obvious conclusion", so don't put words in my mouth.

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-02-2008 03:41 PM

Chuck, how's she doing one day removed from the race after that effort?

ShadowRoll 04-02-2008 03:48 PM

As another venue suggestion, what about Delaware? The money's decent, the fields are small, and if you fatten her up a little, she maybe could pass for an Arabian.

they are having trouble keeping weight on her?

Just joking. They run Arabian races at Delaware. Very slow by thoroughbred standards. She's about the right size but the Arabians always look to me to be a bit more "compact" in their bodies.

The Delaware suggestion, though, is in earnest.

Chuck shells out enough money for the DT horses as it is.... if he wants to run her for a nickel at suffolk you all should celebrate,

Hickory Hill Hoff 04-02-2008 07:47 PM

It wasn't her day...I'm sure she'll get the right spot sooner or later. We've had 10 starts with four 2nds and a 3rd.
I for one am not complaining, it's been a fun ride.
