Perfect Drift working towards a return

BuffyMommy will be happy. ;) Hey, if the old warrior still wants to do it, why not?

i love this horse, always have..............
had one of my bigger scores with him, had a $50 exacta box him- with mineshaft in the Foster, did not really think he could win and was going to play it straight mineshaft-perfect drift... but my friend gave him a big shot and i boxed it and it paid off

That was a great stretch duel.

He's no longer G1 and probably not even stakes caliber, so the best betting opportunities will come with the eternal all/drift/ all when he enters against some nags in a O/C somewhere this summer.

i disagree, why cant he run in stakes ? evening atire ? i think pd is tons better then him. better talk now ? the tin man ? pd is as good or better then all of them

Just cause Evening Attire is older and still gets it done has nothing to do with Perfect Drift. Why do people try to compare horses like this when there really is no comparison.

Better Talk Now and The Tin Man both won G1 races last year.
I've always liked Perfect Drift too, but what criteria are you using to come to the conclusion that he is currently a better than those two?

p.s. Please include another story about a winning wager you made in your response to this question. I just loooooooove hearing them.

I am happy! :)

I figure if anyone can get Drifty ready to race again, Mandella can do it. I love this horse.... I do still wear my "DRIFTY" hat now and again at horse shows, but mostly "The Buck Stops Here" hat has moved into 1st place as my fave hat.

You call that running?

Zippy Chippy apparently got his confidence back when he heard Perfect Drift was back.

Riddle me this Point Given Man!

Q:
If The Tin Man and Perfect Drift were in the same race, who would win?

A:
I don't know, but I do know who'd run second!!

racing with a injury will do that to you -among other things

I love this horse. Doesn't matter to me where he finishes... :)

Some complain about the early retirements and here he is, running his heart out year after year.

Nothing but respect for this old warrior.

Actually what people here have done is disagreed that he can run in stakes as suggested by the board idiot.

I don't know why you're twisting my words around. I'm not going to fight with you here.

Why not? The kids need breakfast?

That's silly talk. PD wasn't a stakes level turf horse in his prime, and he's well past that...I like the horse and have been somewhat of a fan for years, but unless Funny Cide comes back for a pay-per-view war at the shore match race, his days of running notable races are long gone.

brianwspencer 04-01-2008 01:19 PM

It's not worth fighting. Anytime anyone makes a thread about Perfect Drift, anyone who has the audacity to be realistic about the horse's current level of talent in relation to others racing will be be branded as either bashing PD, hating on PD, or complaining about horses retired too early.

It's not bashing on one of my favorite local horses, Courthouse, if someone says that he's not even a legit 18K claimer anymore when he used to be legit in optional claimers. It's the reality of a horse that tailed off from what he used to be.

Toss in a Perfect Drift here or there and all reading comprehension skills immediately go out the window.

The horse is simply not a legitimate stakes horse anymore, and doesn't rank up with any of the other horses listed in an earlier post based on his form and proven inability to actually win a race. It doesn't mean I hate him, it doesn't mean I wish him ill, it just means that I choose to use the head on my shoulders from time to time.

Who knows how good PD was. He spent his career with Murry Johnson. He may have been the best horse ever to draw a breath

mclem10011 04-02-2008 07:07 PM

Perfect Drift is such a warrior, look forward to his return.:)

horseofcourse 04-03-2008 06:44 AM

Nice horse. If Mandella wants to run him he will. Any horse that stays around long enough to run in 5 straight BC Classics is ok in my book. I will predict no other horse will ever approach that mark. Whether he was or is good, bad, or indifferent, those 5 straight Classic appearances make him extremely unique in today's sport. I'll leave it up to Mandella to decide what races to place him in or where he can be competetive.
