Big Brown is the best horse in the country. He wins the Florida Derby easily.

This is easily the most interesting field for a 3-yo derby prep.
Unless it's a swamp like last weekend, this will be a great betting race, and you really have no idea where the money is going to go. I assume Big Brown will be the favorite, and if he gets a post-position draw somewhere between 1 and 5, that's probably where my money will be going, too. Very interested to see Tomcito, Hey Byrn, Smooth Air and Elysium Fields, as well. |
i was looking at the pp's on the nominated list... i am intrested in Tomcito
is he anything ? |
The general consensus is that no one knows. . .

as far as the exacta, like i said its early... and one reasson is that i think big brown and hey byrn are both over hyped |
This race is a little bit like the dirt version of the San Felipe.
In the San Felipe you had three very interesting horses in Georgie Boy, Bob Black Jack, and Gayego all stretching out making there routing debuts on the derby trail. And you had one interesting foreign mystery horse in Shediak. In the Florida Derby you have three horses all making there debuts in derby trail Stake races in Big Brown, Hey Byrn, and Face The Cat - you have one interesting foreign mystery horse in Tomcito. You also get Elysium Fields as an added bonus in this one. |

dont like big brown, or hey byrn at all, dont like smooth air, think face the cat is talented, but this might be to much to soon for him |

You may get 10-1 on a horse like Face the Cat or Smoot Air who certainly could end up being something special. |

what kind of odds do you think we get on Elysium Fields ? if he 7-2 or higher i might just put all my weekend betting money on him. |

beating 5 horses in a off the turfer, going 1 mile ? i dont know, i just dont see it and i think he will be around 6-5 |

whats your name ? |
Once again, im going to defer(sp) to the others on this board that pointed out Elysium Fields earlier this year. With a better post then he got in foy i think he can win this race. Im a big Tagg fan after funny cide and always take him serious when he even says his horse has a little talent and i think that some on here have said that Tagg has thought highly of this one for a good bit of time. I guess the mystery is what makes Tomicito interesting and he is really the wild card in this race but it looks like a good betting race.

on one of the drf.com blogs they have posted speed figures of this years major derby preps, the fountain of youth is the second highest number 98, only lower then the rebel and dennis of pork............in my opinion if there is any decent price on Elysium Fields, i am unloading on him, i will even take 5-2 thats how much the best i think he can be this sat. |

I guess that's the bright side. NT |

I like the added bonus, here.;) |
I think Tomcito is a very good colt. He is a very powerful looking individual, who also looks like he still had room to mature quite a bit from when he was running last year since he was still built downhill.
Tomcito has a lot more upside going into the Florida Derby than Shediak did going into the San Felipe even off the layoff. He has already won several big races routing at 2 on the dirt, but has been off for quite some time. He is a Street Cry who can run all day, and has quite the closing kick. I have only been able to watch the horse on youtube, and the quality is not that great, so it is hard to tell exactly how good he is, but I think he is at least good enough to be in the trifecta in the Florida Derby. He also has a ton of upside for the Derby based on his previous races if he makes it in. He just worked a bullet...5 in 58 4/5 on March 17. Back on Feb. 19, he worked 4 in 46 flat. He's had a couple of breezing 8 furlong workouts as well. Based on his workouts, he is going to be ready to go in this race. http://youtube.com/watch?v=FZNGTN7ZyJc http://youtube.com/watch?v=BILxwj40cRA http://youtube.com/watch?v=0KVzIkFC-_o http://youtube.com/watch?v=7GfogN7mb0w I think they are all running for second in the Florida Derby anyway so I won't play the race, but I would be surprised if Tomcito doesn't run a really good race. If I was betting a colt to upset Big Brown, it would be him, but I don't think he is going to get the job done here. Elysium Fields should run a big one as well. I don't think that Hey Byrn is that good. I can see several horses running a 100+ BSF in this race, which = not slow. |
I have a feeling our Derby favorite will come out of this race. No clue who but there are about 5 to 6 possibilities. You know Pyro will get beat by a couple turf horses in the Blue Grass so if someone throws up a 100+ Beyer here (which I hope it will take to win) they could wind up the Derby favorite.

Ouch... Big Brown to the Outside.
Big Brown drew the outside post in a field of 12 for the Florida Derby. Should be interesting...
|
Even better because people will still play
|
Fierce Wind in the garden spot.
|
I just saw where Curlin drew the 12 hole for the DWC... I can't remember how Nad Al Sheba is set up, but don't they have a pretty good run into the first turn.
