Hennegan Brothers - Film finally out next month

Hennegan Brothers, CDI, and Truely Indie combine to release The First Saturday in May next month. Finally!

There is no Lexington KY date yet noted - we don't have the right theatre chains, I guess.

But hey - gives me something to thank Mark Cuban for!

People always talk about Cuban. The TB industry needs someone like Cuban. They should try to influnce him to get into the game. Horse ownership, track ownership or just as an advisor on how to promote the sport. He is a the forefront in fan friendly{high end and bluecollar both]. The TB industry needs to learn to be more fan friendly.

horse owners gone wild

the trailer reminded me of girls gone wild

just a bunch of people screaming and yelling

I'll probably buy the DVD.

as of now, the pre-order info isn't up yet

wac 03-23-2008 10:37 AM

Is anyone on here going to the L'ville premiere? Im taking my mom for her bday got the VIP tix (big spender) and if anyone from here is going let me knw as id love to meet some dters there.

Riot 03-23-2008 04:46 PM

I'll be there, and Chuck & Paula, and LaReason (Ryan, exercises horses for Chuck) will be there, too!

There is nothing currently scheduled for Lexington, KY, but they are working on it apparently. Keeneland is racing, the 2-yr-old in training sale is going on, and Rolex - and the film isn't playing here during those weeks? - has to do with needing an indie theatre to show the film, will have to check blog and see what bandwagon I can call/write.

I wish everyone (writers, websites, etc) would publicize this - here's a horse racing film made for the non-horse racing public - will horse racing take advantage of this available free publicity right before Derby?

Trailer might not do it justice.

I would really recommend buying the DVD. It was a great, and very classy movie. I have watched it twice now, and loved it both times.

Plus, you get to see Byk in action, which is always cool...

Cannon Shell 03-23-2008 10:25 PM

I will not be there

Riot 03-23-2008 11:19 PM

Good. Paula and I can scalp your ticket, and buy drinks! ;)

Oaklawn?

Trailers usually show the best parts of a movie so you'll go see it.
So, if the trailer is a big turn off?

I'm not part of the horse racing industry but I wonder.. if it is for the non-racing public. What will I get out of it? Seabiscuit 2?

A good documentary is a good documentary. If it's well done, it'll be entertaining, regardless of whether the viewer is a racing fan or not.

It's showing at Cinema Village in NYC, on one of their teeny tiny screens. Better than nothing. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Then I guess you won't like it.

I have spoken to many racing people who all loved it, and I have talked to many non-racing (although animal/equine) people that also liked it.

You seem to already have your mind made up that it sucks, so even if it was the Citizen Kane of racing movies you will probably still think it sucks.

It was a great film in my opinion and that of many others, and I recommend watching it...

Cajungator26 03-24-2008 03:47 PM

Not showing in O-Town... no surprise there.

They've changed their website - the old one was better IMO. This new one has an abbreviated trailer, and none of the old "cast of characters" in the film that the old website had.

shakes the clown is the citizen kane of alcoholic clown movies.

it has the fantastically absurd concept of clown bars and a bloods/crips take on the clown/mime relationship.

many have have their minds made up that that it sucked but it was an okay film in my opinion and i recommend watching it if you're a huge bob goldwaithe fan.

^
admonishment not to use "citizen kane of...(obscure genre)"

Who is your nearest big town, and what is the small indie theatre there? Call them, tell them to contact Hennegan Brothers/Truely Indie to get the film - apparently was easily done in Lexington, Louisville (different theatre than premier), Saratoga?

If not - road trip, girl!
