The Arc! Brought to you by.....
|
Tres early Arc watch.....
(Hey the Curlinites are doing it so why not? :D ) Connections of Matsurida Gogh and Youmzain are pondering..... |
Racing Post.....
Curlin entered in Arc by Desmond Stoneham PLANS to travel the world's top-rated racehorse, Curlin, from the US to France for a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe moved a step closer when he featured among 148 entries for the Longchamp race on October 5. During a red-carpet appearance of the recent Dubai World Cup winner on Kentucky Derby day majority owner Jess Jackson stated that Curlin would be considered for both the Arc and the Japan Cup, and has duly remained true to his word. Last year's runner-up Youmzain also features among entries for a race which will be worth €4 million, twice the 2007 figure. Three year-olds make up 80 of the entries headlined by 2,000 Guineas winner and runner-up, Henrythenavigator and New Approach. There are 33 fillies and mares, most notably Darjina, Finsceal Beo and Peeping Fawn whose younger brother, Group 1 winner Thewayyouare, is one of the three year-old colts entered. Aidan O'Brien's contingent comprises 28, including recent Prix Ganay winner Duke Of Marmalade, while Saeed Bin Suroor's accounts for 11. The race maintains its international flavour with Mike de Kock entering Dubai Sheema Classic winner Sun Classique. The Japanese are not short-handed and last week's Tenno Sho runner-up Meisho Samson tops their list. Australian trainer David Hayes, who has yet to field an Arc runner, has put in 2007 Schweppes Oaks winner Anamato. |
Thanks for that. I'd rather see him at the Arc than the Japan Cup.
|
Zarkava!
|
Getaway and G1 winner Youmzain (wow it's taken a long time to be able to call him that :D  :tro: ) pointed...
|
Quote:
tut tut, you could have called Youmzain a G1 winner from Sept 2006 when he won in Germany :) |
I'm a moron, Brock. :D
|
Geordieland possible...
|

|
The Prix du Cadran would be a better spot for him wouldn't it?
|
Quote:
He'll have a prep in the Geoffery Freer in Newbury over 1mile 5furlongs and he'd have to win it well to be considered for the Arc.. |
Admire Jupiter...
|
new favourite for the Arc Montmartre after his easy win in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris (The new French Derby as I like to call it!)
|
Meisho Samson...
|
Maybe the plan will be to start both Zarkava and Montmartre (their are stablemates) in the Arc.
Question: which one of them Christophe Soumillon will decide to ride. Montmartre has never been out of the money in his four starts. And Zarkava is unbeaten. it's going to be a very interesting Arc indeed if Montmartre added to the mix. |

* * * Racing Post... Arc 'unlikely' for Curlin, say connections Racing Post staff CONNECTIONS of Curlin said on Tuesday that the Breeders' Cup Classic winner is unlikely to head to Longchamp for the Arc and will make his next appearance in the Group 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga on August 30. Owner Jess Jackson ended speculation as to where the Curlin may head after his narrow defeat by Red Rocks in the Man o'War Stakes last time, stating that the Arc is "probably out for this year." “We considered many options but we decided this is the best place to showcase his talent, racing him in America and racing him on a surface where he's already a champion” Jackson said. “This is a historic venue where he can add to his body of work. He's very fit, he's very happy here right now and we wanted to take advantage of that and do what's best for the horse.” With the targeted race just two weeks before the Arc trial on September 14, and back on dirt, a trip to France is no longer likely this year but Jackson added that a return to turf had not been dismissed. “The Arc is probably out for this year,” Jackson said. “We think he can be a turf champion but I'm not sure he has enough time this year to make the adjustment,” Jackson admitted. “The flexibility of his racing style and the tactics he'd have to use (on the turf) vary so you'd have to train him for that.” |
Prix Guillaume d'Ornano winner Russian Cross.....
|
Admire Jupiter is out...
|
Getaway, with Frankie up...
|
Good to see Getaway get back to winning ways.. He's a lovely horse..
Is Saddex still on course for Baden Baden next weekend.. |
As far as I know he is. :)
Soldier of Fortune to the Arc, NO prep. |
Adlerflug swerves... to the Gran Premio instead.
Wonder if that's the target for Schiaparell (again). |
It's a long way out but right now if the course is good to soft, the other undefeated 3 yr old Vision D'Etat would be my choice.
Alternate if entered Ideal World. Both should be attractive oddswise. Though I respect Zarkava she will not be any value and history says fillies don't usually win this race. |
Zarkava has been my Arc pick since April but yeah... the Prix Niel angle is a good one.
It'll be interesting to see who else shows up..... :) |
Racing Post...
Arc under consideration for Septimus Septimus: a run in the Arc would rule out a crack at the Melbourne Cup BrianFleming AIDAN O'BRIEN has expressed his delight that easy Irish St Leger winner Septimus had escaped a penalty for the Melbourne Cup but said that the five-year-old could yet enter his calculations for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The son of Sadler's Wells was cut to 4-1 favourite (from 6) by VCBet for the Melbourne showpiece but the Ballydoyle trainer is still awaiting news of quarantine restrictions to be imposed by the Australian authorities, a factor that could yet have a bearing on where he travels. “We haven't heard anything yet but we expect to hear news in the next day or two,” O'Brien said. “Obviously we were very happy that he didn't get a penalty.” If Septimus reroutes to Paris on October 5 for the Arc, it would effectively rule out a trip to Australia a month later, but a decision will be made when the quarantine restrictions are known. “He can't run in the Arc if he's going to Australia,” said O'Brien, who also has Doncaster Cupwinner Honolulu, who has received a 1kg penalty, and Alessandro Volta as possible Melbourne Cup runners. O'Brien added: “After we hear news about the quarantine we'll then have to sit down and discuss that hard, whether he goes into quarantine and goes to Australia or if he doesn't and goes for the Arc. “Don't rule it out completely - the plan all along was to go for the Irish Leger and then on to Australia, but we'll have to wait and see as there are other things in the mix at the moment.” Racing Victoria's chief handicapper Greg Carpenter, explaining his decision not to penalise Septimus, said: “While Septimus was visually very impressive on Saturday in winning by 13 lengths, given the level of opposition the performance does not warrant a penalty for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.” Soldier Of Fortune is the main Ballydoyle hope in the betting for the Arc and is a best priced 5-1 second favourite with William Hill behind Zarkava. |
Big Brown=Nice, Zarkava=Scary
![]() Of course, Big Brown (still) has never faced anything like the sort of competition that could be on offer in a little over a month; if Duke of Marmalade's test run over polytrack at Great Leighs works out well, he may well be Classic-bound; I imagine there are quite a few European trainers who would rather face Big Brown than Zarkava (pictured) in the Arc -- especially after this weekend. Zarkava proved that the mile and a half Arc distance will be no difficulty -- even though she missed the break completely (which is replayed a number of times at the end of the video), stumbled and trailed the field for much of Prix Vermeille this past weekend, yet she still had no trouble equaling the record for the race. If you were looking for the best equine performance of the weekend (or possibly the year), this is it. Posted by Superfecta at 10:42 AM ![]() |

MMSC, read this blog and check out what is wrong with it? http://sport.setanta.com/en/Blogs/A-...akes-no-sense/ and then check the comment below :) I agree that a change of jockey could work wonders for Youmzain but Richard Hills, come on.. are you having a laugh |
I think you should get the mount, Brock.:)
|
ha, he changed it a few hours after i left the comment - I love Youmzain and have thought very highly of him even before that win in Germany!! However, I only like to back him when he's at least 80-1!!
|
If Sir Michael sends both Papal Bull and Ask to the Arc, who does Ryan ride?
Apparently he took Ask for a spin today... |
