A friend of mine just called me from the Bellagio to tell me. She said the whole strip is shut down.
|

Some friends stayed there for a golf tourney 2 years ago. Said the place sucked |
"One of Las Vegas’ hottest night spots, the Monte Carlo Brew Pub not only features a great selection of food and draft beer, but also live music, dancing and fun."
Excerpt from: http://www.montecarlo.com/entertainment/ Sounds like one of Lance Burton's shows went awry to me. |

I hope that everyone got out safely, and that everything is restored. |
news says that there are no injuries.... although they still have to check the structure of the building.
The fire was probably started by a bunch of welders working on the roof and the most of the fire was on about the top 5 floors (from the pics on the news).... basically burned out all the high roller suites, that made up the top few floors of it. couldn't even imagine the whole strip shut down out there. maybe it's a good thing the horse tournament's at Red Rock.... otherwise it'd have been at ballys, one of the shut down casinos. |
Good news. Glad to hear there are no injuries.
|
My wife and I stayed there, the place was a sht hole!

I am not sure I would go that far..the Riveria is a sh*thole. But the MC is the first on the list to be revamped by MGM. Once City Center is done I would expect they will re-work the MC. They did have some good microbrews until they closed the brewery and now only serve "others" brews. Since the MGM owns most of the hotels in that area the impact of losing the MC is minimal. |

The standard room at the Monte Carlo leaves a lot to be desired, but the suite I had was quite nice and reasonably priced.
This was 4 years ago, however. |
I remember being very dissapointed with the hotel. Our room was tiny. I also did not think that the restauraunts were anything special, because we ended up eating away from the hotel the entire trip. It just seemed like ever other hotel we went into was so much nicer. Also from what I remember (it was at least 7 years ago) the sports/race book was extremley small too. Maybe S't hole was too strong of a word, but my wife and I were very dissapointed.

You are correct..the resturant choice is minimal. MGM hopes you will visit the other ones like NYNY or MGM for the better choices. Like I said the Monte Carlo will be the first to be revamped once City Center is done...not my fav place..except the bar at the entrance had a good IPA beer!!!! Most of the Casinos have down sized the Sports Books..not the money maker the slots and table games are... MGM is small and difficult viewing..NYNY is very very small... Mirage is OK . Venetian is a good one (not an MGM property). Best use to be the Stardust, before it was imploded...Old School at its best. |
I just got back from a weekend at Ceasars Palace and they had a fire in the basement that filled the upper floors with smoke. Pretty scary stuff if you are old enough to remeber the MGM fire in 1980.

I've stayed at the Monte Carlo a couple of times. I'm not crazy about that end of the strip. I much prefer to be down in the Caesar's Palace-Mirage-Harrah's part of the strip, but the rooms at Monte Carlo are pretty much the same as any place else that I've stayed. Monte Carlo is a mid priced hotel. Not the worst and not the best. I've never stayed at any of the up scale places like the Bellagio or Venetian or Mandalay Bay, but I can't say that I care too much. I usually don't spend a whole lot of time in my room anyway. For the money, if you like space, stay at the Rio. They have spaciouis mini-suites. Drawback to that though is that it's across the freeway from the strip.
|
technically I haven't had to pay to stay anywhere in Vegas
besides.. it's just a room to keep your luggage and shower can sleep when I get home. never took notice of Monte Carlo I dislike New York, NY |

Best I've been in is Wynn.... rooms and especially the beds are extremely good (I travel alot and almost never sleep well the 1st night away from home... except for Wynn). I normally stay there or on the south end of the strip (normally NY-NY). Rooms there are good and the location's great. |

Their standard 'run of the house' rooms are ok (been in tons better), but if you've got an MGM-Mirage players club card, you should never end up in those. |
Today in the mail I got an offer from The Hilton for 3 free nights. There are certian days in Feb, March and April that you can use them but that is the only catch,,,cause I called and asked them what I had to buy, watch or try!!! and it was on the up and up. It also provides a $50 dining card, a "Play $50, get $150 back coupon. I am seriously thinking of going. Anyone ever stayed at the Hilton in Vegas? Is it a crap hole or what? :D
|
its okay. they have a horseplayers sportsbook. but vegas sucks for playing horses! not enough machines. who the hell goes to a window anymore?
|

The hotel is dated a bit, but I wouldn't call it sh*t hole. Some of the older hotels still have a smokey smell in them and the last time I was in the Hilton it did too. They have a large sports book, which was the best in town. Take the comp and fly up, see a show. You only spend you sleeping hours in the room. |
NO!
Oh come on now...are you telling me all of the breaking news stories on tv and radio are ,in fact , TRUE? I really don't know what to say,Grooves. I'm floored...really. |

I don't know how this happened, but I've only been to Vegas once and played at the Wynn a lot and have already been getting things in the mail from them for comp. rooms, to bad I can't afford to go out there right now. My dad has been going to Vegas for years, and he plays at the Wynn a lot and doesn't get anything from them, he has no idea how I am.

We always take in a show or two. Do your home work on the shows to find out when they are dark. You can get tickets at discount prices by waiting till 30 minutes before the show. There are alot of good comedy show that are pretty cheap. We fly and take the taxi everywhere, being from SoCal I find it funny that most of the taxi drivers look like terrorist |
To die for.
Just can't get enough of them Vegas vacay posts. |

I doubt you're hot enough for the ratty-o. It's hard to believe a degenerate gambler such as you would be encumbered with a wife and daughter.More likely you live in a Yucca Valley hut and thumb your way to Las Vegas with that roll of quarters you mugged a candy machine attendant for. But I won't get personal here. Gelf is for idiots and I am DEM SHOO you gelf. The truth is ,as much as I ruffled your filthy feathers , you can't stand me. You can't stand me because I'm smarter than you and am adored by every single beautiful woman here and it just makes you giddy with jealous anger. So you go blowharding with your idiot inference about claiming to have an in at every country club in the US. And I'll keep making you look like Chevy Chase at every opportuinty. Now get out of my sight....yer mekin' me sick. |

You noticed that,too...huh? Did you see where he claims to have actually been a horsey owner? Only him and 50 million others. ...but his was bred by Spelling.....don't ya know. Don't ask him anymore questions....I'll vomit on the answers. And I wouldn't take him up on that Vegas meet up offer. Sounds like he's done that before....know what I'm sayin' ? |
Vegas PD have ruled out Brian W Spencers handicapping as reason for the blaze.

How is that place? Fairly new, right? I stayed at Caesars a few years ago. We ate are Nero's....fantastic food IMO. |

Did you or did you not promise to refrain from anymore Vegas vacay postings? I judged you to be above the bogus attempts to inflate ones own ego by posting phony claims or posting a breeze by through a famous vacay spot that so many others here try to do. Shame on you. Don't bother responding. |
