A Final Farewell
Give sorrow words;
the grief that does not speak Whispers the o'er-fraught heart and bids it break. ~ William Shakespeare, Macbeth, Act IV, Scene III I'll preface this by saying for those of you who hate this kind of thing? Please just try to understand that for some of us, this is how we deal with this beautiful yet brutal sport that we all love. Some of us need to pay a small tribute and say goodbye as that's all we can really do. Goodbye to those we've lost this year. This list is incomplete - it's all I can do in one sitting - so please feel free to add anyone I've left off and I apologize for anyone who should be here and is not. The names are in no particular order as they were all important, they all mattered, and they've all left holes in the hearts of their connections and their fans and the racing world. Farewell..... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - MMSC! "HHH" |
Great post. Sad to see that many of our warriors gone over the year...

Thanks for that. It's amazing how many I can picture. It's good to remember them.
|
Touching post. It is really sad to know that we will never again see them running on track or in a pasture somewhere....

A great post and quite thoughtful. |
Who Doctor Who.....the memories that name invokes. I can still hear Terry Wallace's voice bellowing out as "The Doctor" came rolling on home.
Thanks for the wonderful post. |

Thank you.
Some great names on this list, I hope they will remain great wherever they might be right now. These past few weeks have caused heartbreak for many racing fans in the UK, The deaths of Granit Jack, Detroit City and Macs Joy touched the hearts of even the most unforgiving racing fan. I haven't been able to get into National Hunt racing since and for the first time in many years, I'm not looking forward to Cheltenham or Aintree next year. It has come to the stage where I'm just hoping every horse gets around and comes back safe, which isn't how this sport should be. I saw Granit Jack in the paddock before his great second in the Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, not knowing that the next time he would appear in the same paddock he would be moments from his death :( This is the final time I saw him in the flesh. Sleep well big man. |
Thank you for posting this.
I feel all of our warriors should be remembered, but unfortunately there is no readily accessable list of names. So many fall through the cracks. Inesperado also fell this year. |
thats fng depressing... poor horses.....massuesd owes me and a team money......guess we will how to w it off..rip
|
Thank you for your persistent concern. Let us all pray the list will be much shorter next year. God Bless all our heroic horses.

don't we already have a dead horses thread?

Sanctimony knows no bounds.

The horses (besides the ones already on the list) that broke down at Bay Meadows this past year:
Cards Speak He's Storming Imperial Eyes (the horse Russell Baze was whipping to excess and was then suspended for) R.I.P. and thank you, to all of these horses, for the joy (and sometimes sorrow) that you brought to us. |
Interesting thread. Very well done. Massaud breaking down on opening day was awful.

More importantly we should be making a thread adding our loved ones that we have lost this year, and praying for them.
Merry Christmas |

Thanks for your post, MMSC...as always, you bring to light a side of the game that sometimes is overlooked. Sometimes, it is easy to forget that the animals involved are living, breathing beings as well, and have feelings like anyone else.
Not to mention, they are so easy to get attached to! Thanks again, sad to see the losses, but important to remember as well. |
While walking my dog today, she ran down a frog and tore the living sh#t out of it...the damn frog's eyes popped right out of it's head.
Please add the frog to your list of dead animals. |

I agree. Also we should add football programs which were finally put to rest and are now dead and buried for years. Good bye Notre Dame Football......is a pleasure to see you have a horrendous year. |

Or don't you wish to remember him? |
There are many here, including links to web articles on most of them. On this list, unlike some of the others on the web, all have been verified.

You know, this is what makes the world go round, and message boards work.....some people stand on soap boxes, some of them disingenuously, and some not, and others call them out for it.
I just hope every single person who has applauded this thread has also donated to horse rescue organizations. My guess is some haven't. I do, however, know that at least one person who finds this thread insultingly ridiculous has done what he could for this situation. We get it, MissStormCat cares about every race horse that dies annually, even though my guess is she knows little to nothing about many of them, or even necessarily how or why they perished. That's great....that's her thing on this and other websites. However, how many times do we need to be reminded of this? Some of us think it is less often than we actually are....some don't. Once again that's what makes the world go round. But that doesn't mean dissenters have to keep their mouths shut......haven't we honestly heard enough of this sh it from the person who has destroyed this once great country of ours? |
You bring so much class to this forum, BTW.
At a guess, I'd say that more than half of this entire forum donate to horse rescue centres and so forth. I know I do, and I also know several others (who have posted in this thread) who do, too. You're not on the high ground just because you do. However, I am glad that you support these equine related charities. Maybe you're not as cold as I once thought. Is it wrong that some of us choose to remember, is it wrong that some people (yourself included) prefer not to, well, not in this way? What I do find irritating and rather childish is the lack of respect and the sarcasm that appear in these threads. Always from the same one or two, I must add. You call this sh!t, that maybe your opinion and you're entitled to it. Just like I am entitled to say I find your posts dull, I find your posts dull.... sorry, I'm repeating myself. I've learnt that trick from you, ya see. Why can't you lay off, just once. Just for christmas? That would be the polite thing to do instead of going around slagging people off because they don't know quite as much as your oh so high and mighty self. .....and before I get messages shoved down my throat saying "do you know who he is"....... no, I don't, why should I care. Thank you for your time. |
