Chris Antley

For those who may have read the DRF or caught a little of the opinions floating about on the OTB show this weekend...should Antley ever be in the Hall of Fame?

Personally, I think so.

Coach Pants 12-17-2007 01:54 PM

It really doesn't matter to me because the concept of Hall of Fames and award shows are ridiculous and insincere.

I say induct him and his coke dealer.

blackthroatedwind 12-17-2007 02:16 PM

He was a better rider than at least half the people in the Hall of Fame and has the credentials.

I was surprised that it was even a question since he was so talented...although didn't he serve a suspension and/or loss of license due to a drug positive?

I wonder if it will ever be a question when Pletcher is up for nomination?

but wasnt he drugging himself, not the horses?

pgiaco 12-17-2007 03:19 PM

Always liked the "Ant-man". Definitely belongs in the Hall.

Well...it was drugs that did him in at the end :( . But, he was good as any when it came to riding horses...no matter what his personal demons were, he paid the ulitmate price. With that said, he should get consideration on his racing ability.

the_fat_man 12-17-2007 03:43 PM

Other than Cordero, he was the man to have in a photo.

fpsoxfan 12-17-2007 04:20 PM

Chris Antley was one of my favorite jockeys. His life came to an end too soon. He had some problems and unfortunately those problems led to his tragic death. He sure could ride. There is no question that he should be in the Hall of Fame.

AeWingnut 12-17-2007 04:33 PM

I think it would bother D. Wayne Lukas if Chris was inducted into the HoF. So... I'm all for it. Doesn't make any difference to me one way or the other.

I think Cindy Noll should be in the Hall of Fame.

I have that same print.....No matter what demons he had, he should be remember for what he did with the thoroughbred.

Danzig 12-17-2007 05:59 PM

if he has comparable stats to others that have been inducted, then yes, he should be.
besides, if kent desormeux can get in...can't anyone?:p

and i agree with dahoss, why would dwl be bothered?

Riot 12-17-2007 06:30 PM

Lukas has always said the Antley-Charismatic thing was romanticized way beyond what it was.

blackthroatedwind 12-17-2007 06:34 PM

Right, but while I'm sure that was what was being referenced, I also doubt Lukas would say Antley didn't belong in the Hall of Fame.

A while after Antley's unfortunate death, Lukas spoke out about how Antley's supposed great love for Charismatic was being, to say the least, overexagerated. He basically said if Antley cared so much about the horse how come he never even visited him between races. Say what you want....Lukas would know.

Desormaeux can school any jock riding today. He is one of the best Turf Jocks and is one of FEW jocks who uses thier brains and not instict when riding a horse.

Other smart Jockeys include:

Jerry Bailey
Chris McCarron

Coach Pants 12-17-2007 06:51 PM

More smart jocks:

Larry Melancon
Wilfredo Lozano Jr.
Tyler Baze

blackthroatedwind 12-17-2007 06:53 PM

Now Kent Desormeaux is smart?

OMG.....now I've heard everything.

Did you see Flashy Bull in the '06 Derby?

By the way, a debate about what Lukas would think about Antley getting in the Hall of Fame is one of the strangest and most pointless discussions I have seen in quite some time.

Yes Antley should be in the HOF. IMO he was one of the best at riding a horse. As for Kent D. being so smart and schooling jocks of today, why is it he seems to forget where the finish line is and stands up too soon? Not the sign of a smart jockey. That said i still like him and bet him.

Ooops. I just remembered that was Mike Smith and not KD. Sometimes I get my overrated jocks mixed up. I guess I should have said, "did you see Real Quiet in the '98 Belmont?" Although his ride in the '06 derby (on SNS) was less than impressive as well.

slotdirt 12-18-2007 09:22 AM

Was about to correct Miraja on the Mike Smith Path in the '06 Derby, but he self-corrected. Or, as Steve Haskin put it, Flashy Bull took the "ambulance path."

sumitas 12-18-2007 12:38 PM

IMO Antley should not enter the HOF for at least another 5 years.

It's the rumor guy.

Any proof he " owed a lot of money " or just more unsubstantiatable innuendo?

I heard a rumor that D. Wayne shagged a hotwalker's gf at Arlington. My source said the hotwalker kinda looks like Bubba Sparxxx with downs.

Bootie bootie bootie bootie!

disappearingdan_akaplaya 12-18-2007 05:32 PM

lol camardo cant be confused with any1, and yeah well i guess the rumor would probaly be true considering its known luka$$ was having financial trouble altogether. although i didnt read none of this on that non- handicapping $hithole known as pace advantage.

blackthroatedwind 12-18-2007 05:44 PM

You're known for posting ridiculous untruths here. Last I recall you were intimately involved with the dropping of a horse in NY.

fpsoxfan 12-18-2007 06:17 PM

Not to mention the fact that reading his post....r a real pain in the a%@.
