What Do You Want Changed In 2008?

I love this time of year because questions like this can be asked and with the gathering of people on this board from all angles in the industry one can expect some good reading material. So, with that said I look forward to hopefully reading what the folks on this board would like to see change with the benefit of this industry in mind, no matter what angle you are speaking of be it gambling, training, ownership, media etc etc.....

Realistically I would like to see the sales companies force full disclosure of ownership of horses going through any sales ring.

pgiaco 12-11-2007 07:34 PM

I would like Joe Bruno, Elliot Spitzer and Sheldon Silver to disappear. I mean I hope this mess over the NY franchise can be resolved without an interruption of racing.

Riot 12-11-2007 07:45 PM

I would like racing's big days off ESPN and back on national TV.

Coach Pants 12-11-2007 07:48 PM

$.01 pick six

pdrift1 12-11-2007 08:55 PM

to get the new york racing situation straightend out soon-

then not a solution to there woes but to give them a chance for the time being, give maryland (preakness belongs at pimilico) and illinois racing the slots they have wanted.

churchill changing thier stance on no more breeders cup's.

BC changing the win and your in to a true win ad your in for free and not some stupid promo stunt

to the 2 unrealistic -delmar dumping that shiat poly for cushion and realizing they made a mistake-thou the amount of cash flow that flys thru that track being DEL MAR they could care less.

and hollywood somehow or someone saving themselves from the wrecking ball. would be sad to see this historic track meet its end.

I'd love the signer/witholding laws to be changed as discussed a few weeks ago. . .

I'd like to see Frank's energy drink be served at the Carolina BBQ

In that case I'm changing mine. I'd like a million dollars, and a pony.

good idea.
also, consistency in rules and regs nationwide, rather than state to state.

TheSpyder 12-12-2007 05:53 AM

I'd really like to see the horses that I wager on win more often...I think there's something wrong with many of them as I know I picked the right horse.

Spyder

SCUDSBROTHER 12-12-2007 05:55 AM

I'd like to see horses taken down for herding. For instance,Bushwacker did that. You can't just expect horses to ignore it when other horses come over quickly on them. They slow down to protect themselves from that horse. You don't have to have contact to bother horses badly(although in the case I mentioned there was contact that was ignored as well as the herding.)

Pedigree Ann 12-12-2007 06:45 AM

A thorough revamping of the grading process. The current methodology is a joke.

2Hot4TV 12-12-2007 07:01 AM

If you can make a bet after the gates have opened, then I would like to be able to cancel a wager before the 1/4 pole. Seems fair to me.

there's a current methodology?! no way

miraja2 12-12-2007 07:31 AM

I want more of the good horses to retire during, or immediately after, their 3yo campaigns. Last year I got so tired of watching old geezers like Corinthian and Lawyer Ron winning important G1 races that should properly be reserved for 3rd tier 3yos to win in their farewell race.

GBBob 12-12-2007 07:57 AM

a $5 Million dollar BC race for 4 yr olds and up only

hell..maybe that would make somebody think twice

PSH 12-12-2007 08:51 AM

I would like

For the various state jurisdictions get together and become more uniform on a number of issues: medications, stake races (not having multiple states that are close to one another have the same type of races written on the same day or one day apart), licensing rules, etc. Of course i am dreaming on this one.

PSH

I agree.

I also would like to see all racing content available on each ADW. Let us choose what ADW we use because of their customer service, wagering platform, etc... not because of which tracks they offer.

I would also like to see HRTV on DirecTV so I can get both racing channels and the NFL package (apparently will never happen).

Healthy and winning years for SWLY and KNS.....

In addition to the already provided info on the daily workouts tabs...I would like to see the public versions of the daily workout tabs at each track/training center include info such as trainer name, horse age, horse gender, & horse color....

edited for clarity

why?

Payson Dave 12-12-2007 10:37 AM

I privately clock horses in the mornings...I get the splits/fractions of the works, the trainer name from the saddle cloth and the markings of the horse, I also get the out times after the finishline...but tying all that info to the name of the horse can be difficult

The final time of a work is much less significant than how it was done...was the horse in company...was the first 8th or quarter slow...how much urging or restraint was the horse under...how did the horse gallop out for the next 8th or quarter...was the final 8th slow...having all this info does ya little good without the name...

In my humble opinion having this info when betting 2yo mdns is invaluable and with it betting mdns and horses off a layoff can be very profitable.

MaTH716 12-12-2007 10:43 AM

I would like to see more tracks have later starts/night racing a couple of days a week. I love when NYRA has the sunset racing and Hollywood has the 7pm start on Friday.

phystech 12-12-2007 10:45 AM

I'd like to see Delaware Park change its claiming rules so that you don't have to be a "new*" owner, or stabled on the grounds, or have started in a race before you are eligible to claim. Gill is pretty much out of the claiming game so change the damned rule!!

(* "New" owner is defined as a person who has not held a license in any jurisdiction in the past 365 days. )

I'd also like to see MD change their jockey "workman's comp" funding policy so that each and every licensed owner doesn't have to pay $250 when obtaining a license. Instead, I would like to see MD charge an owner each time he/she races. If I only run 1 time in MD, I pay $250. If I run 1000 times, I pay $250. Why not charge a fee, much like a gate fee, each time a horse races to fund the policy?

i apologize, when i first read your post above...i thought you wanted the name, age, color and gender of the trainer.

I missed out on the discussion but I couldn't agree more. The IRS signer rules are just plain criminal

sorry IRS and criminal are redundant

Probably the trueist axiom in horse racing.

Oaklawnfan 12-12-2007 01:29 PM

I would like to get a better angle on all weather surfaces. Which is really better for the horses? Which really is the most like dirt? Will we eventually do away with dirt? How long will it take to figure this out?
