Vic Stauffer, your calls are a pleasure to hear!

I know Vic is a member of this board. I just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying your calls at Hollypark. I have nothing against Trevor D, but after months of Del Mar, Fairplex, and Oak Tree, it's nice to hear another voice. I appreciate that every race sounds a little bit different. What was Gulfstream Park thinking letting you go? Continued success.

v j stauffer 11-21-2007 12:00 PM

Now there's a timely, accurate, well thought out, consise and all around sharp post.

Slews My Hero knows what's what!!

We need alot more like him on this site!

Love your modesty too:rolleyes:

Slew is right on...enjoy listening to you. Keep up the good work.

Payson Dave 11-21-2007 12:06 PM

chuckle chuckle...and who says flattery won't get you anywhere???

TheSpyder 11-21-2007 12:07 PM

Steve,

Can you please make sure Vic doesn't have two posting names on this site....kidding.

I agree with above comments.

Vic,

Have any special calls planned for "the monkey" today? Win or Lose?

v j stauffer 11-21-2007 03:23 PM

Don't think so Sooner. Kind of a bad situation for all involved no matter what happens. Will probably just call it and see what happens.

TitanSooner 11-21-2007 03:33 PM

cool. thanks for the response.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 11-21-2007 04:00 PM

vic i remember when you called races for 1 meet@hawthorne. you are 1 of my fav race callers(you and wrona) but at first i didnt like ya no offense LOL. i was so bitter about the way kevin goemmer(rip) was denied the arlington job and becuz of that left chicago racing altogether(was the reg announcer@hawthorne and sportsmans). my judgement of you was unfair and towards the end of the meet here i really started taking to and liking your racecalls alot! not sure if you remember but i even wrote you a email begging ya to stay, of course i cant blame ya you moved on to bigger and better things. anyways again and as others have stated here i really enjoy hearing you call a race, how much did ya enjoy lava man in the whittingham???????????:D

Vic,

I too prefer your calls to that of the "other California" race caller. I truly enopy your calls and am glad to hear you back at Polywood. Keep up the good work.

Fearless Leader 11-22-2007 05:53 PM

Vic is one of the best announcers in the game. The voice of Gulfstream. Nothing has been straight and strong there since he left. Vic..........YYYEESSSSS.

MISTERGEE 11-22-2007 06:19 PM

hiya vic,

would like to hear your best hialeah memory, ah the good old days

bigjag0716 11-22-2007 10:45 PM

Yup, Vic is the man. My favorite racing is Hollywood Park's Friday night racing. I love kicking back, playing those Friday Night races and listening to vics calls. Something about it draws me in. Awesome announcer during the Santa Rosa Fair also. No offense to Micheal Wrona, I like him too, but it would be very cool if Vic stauffer called BM and GGF. Or at least one of them.

My best Hialeah memory is standing in the announcers booth at Yakima Meadows and getting a call from as guy named Bob Savage. Bob was the director of marketing at Hialeah and he offered me the announcers job. I drove 3712 miles in the next five days to arrive in time to begin the meet. Seemed like it took half a day. I'd have walked If I had to.

Many great memories when I got there as well. Seeing how amazingly beautiful it was. Calling the Flamingo Stakes. Pistols and Roses. The grey horse of Marty Wolfson's whose name escapes me. Watching the Flamingos fly once a day before the feature. The wonderful old school press box. The great Cuban food just outside the gates.

I should have never left Hialeah. Even though it eventually closed I wish I'd stayed till the end. I left to call Golden Gate Fields because it was closer to home. That was a mistake.

A truly GREAT racetrack in it's day.

.

After Longacres closed, me and my dad used to go over to Yakima Meadows all the time. We'd go for the saturday and sunday cards, go to Miners for burgers each time, and go to Sun Kings games when they were in town. Lots of fun.

It was Frank who took over for me. He's turned into a very good racecaller. I enjoyed working with him on TVG. He was prepared and did a very good job IMO. I felt no friction. Really!

Scav 11-24-2007 01:14 AM

Vic, good to see you posting more, like your Track Champion days.

I like when you and Frank work together, it isn't uptight like it is with others on TVG sometimes, you guys just have fun like you are at the track BS with friends. It also helps that both of you have a clue when it comes to the horses also.

Thanks Scav. I think Frank has done a very good job on TVG. You'll see ALOT on him in Dec. Just got the schedule today. He has a bunch of shifts. I'll be doing 4 during the month. Looking forward to that. Cheers.

What are you guys at TVG going to be covering when South Florida racing goes to Gulfstream? Has TVG pursued any greyhound racing, or Jai alai contracts?

Mardi Gras runs a nice program Vic. I know you have to be familiar because they were your neighbor when you wintered down there. Ive unfortunately made the trek from GSP to Mardi Gras too many times to count

SentToStud 11-24-2007 01:59 PM

Is TVG going to cover the new Quarter Horse track going up in Florida next year?

Uncle Daddy 11-25-2007 08:11 PM

Vic, Like the others love your calls and miss you at Gulfstream. The place could use a little enthusiasm. How about a Midwestern swing once Pinnacle Downs fires up in Michigan?

My favorite stretch call.. He is straight and he is STRONG!!!!!!

SlewsMyHero 11-25-2007 08:41 PM

Awesome calls in both the Matriarch and Hollywood Derby today. That certainly was a "Grade I ride" by Bejarano in the Matriarch.

Thanks Slew. What an honor to be allowed to call such great horses and jockeys.

Rootdog1 11-26-2007 02:10 PM

I am glad you moved your tack from the dmtc.com site to here.....it is a far better spot. I enjoy your work.

ArlJim78 11-26-2007 04:56 PM

The Precious Kitten race was executed perfectly by horse, jockey and trainer. She was right on top of her game, and it was thrilling to see how she flew home in the stretch with such interest. The only bobble was Bejarano almost fumbled the whip at one point, but that was just a formality anyway.
