Ed Allred

Don't know much about the gentleman or the complete situation at hand, but sure is nice to see someone stepping up to the plate if/when Hollywood shuts down. Maybe someone with more insight can shed some light.

Well i know Mr Allred who supports the 1/4 horse business extremely well, and Mike Pegram both tried hard to present proposols to the state for plans to expand thoroughbred racing to Los Alamitos and Orange County. They were not received very well, so Pegram backed out. There were some good articles about it a year or so ago in the racing form..

The Bid 11-10-2007 09:54 AM

Best part of the article is when he says... We can pay for it ourselves, we dont have any investors, its not that expensive only 30 million dollars

Coach Pants 11-10-2007 10:17 AM

Yeah if he thinks they can renovate that place for $30 million then he's insane.

Linny 11-10-2007 11:29 AM

Allred is the husband of the prominent (ubiquitous?) attorney Gloria Allred and appears interested in supporting SoCal TB's as he has QH's.

ALostTexan 11-10-2007 12:19 PM

My only thought is how that would affect the Quarters. If they go to a long meet at Los Al for the Thoroughbreds, then they will have to put in a synthetic, and I cannot see the Quarters running on any kind of synthetic.

Seems like $25-30 Million is alot of money to invest in a meet that won't run longer than a fair meet...

They could send the Quarters over to run at Pamona while the TB's are at Los Al. Orange County will be a great place for a true TB meet , so close to everything , Disney , Knotts and the beach is just a few miles away and its a helluva alot nicer neighborhood than Hollywood.

The Bid 11-10-2007 04:58 PM

The only way EA wont need investors is if he signs up for PP's football service

hollypark died the day churchill bought them. they never invested in the facility the way magna did at santa anita.

it's not just the neighborhood. holly has a great location 15 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from the westside.

it wasn't always the hole it is now. that took years of bad management.

Agree.

An artifical surface will be needed and that will cost at least $10M, and that is based on replacing the surfaces at SA/HP/DM over an existing track. At Los Al they have to build a new mile track, build a turf, and then a Qtr track.

Dont know if anyone has ever been there, I have plenty of times, as I live in OC. It needs alot of work on the stands. Actually it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. It certainly isnt up to the standards of a Major League circuit track.

Then they still need barn work.

Metal Man 11-11-2007 10:39 AM

With the limited on track attendence you only need th build the new tracks and barns. Don't need much for parking and grandstands.

"if you build it they will come". We all know Hollywood park will be sold in the near future.

I actualy agree with that statement, however, tell that to all the people who complained about the change done at Gulfstream.

This is why it would be easy for Fairplex to rip dowm some old buildings and put in a mile track with a grass coarse and get hollywoods dates when they close that track. The same is true for Los Al.

Honu 11-11-2007 03:57 PM

I dont see Fairplex tearing down any convention halls to make a new track or barn area . They make alot of money with those halls during the off meet and the parking lot behind the barn area fills up for the car races at the track next door , at the same time I dont know where Los Al is going to find the space to build a mile oval , a bigger barn area and a grandstand since they sold the land behind the 4 1/2 chute to the church next door and the land that was the golf course is supposidly zoned "green " only .
It will be interesting to see how this all works out , but if they really wanna make a go of it Los Al is the place , there is already so much buisness in that area because of the Theme Parks that if they conducted half night racing and half day racing I could really see people showing up.
Orange County would be my pick any day of the week , in the summer its not too hot and the nights arent to cool in the winter .

He is doing good, I think the next race is the weekend of the 20 something or a futurity or something , crap I havent looked at the chart to see when the race is but Im pretty sure its a stake . We have been working him slow , sometimes rider error , but erring on the side of caution cause uhm we kinda know he is fast lol.

Pedigree Ann 11-12-2007 03:30 AM

Re: Into Mischief for the Kentucky Derby. Looks a tad iffy on pedigree. Sire Harlan's Holiday, a horse I loved for his consistency and grit, wasn't an out-and-out stayer, more of a classy miler who could stretch out against lesser foes (Precisionist and Dr. Fager were this sort as well, at a higher level). Dam's first two foals won sprints. Dam herself was a state-bred SW at 2, all 5 of her wins were at sprint distances and 4 of the 5 were at 2. Did place in a few miler-type races on grass. Her siblings were sprinter/miler types, some of them pretty decent runners. Damsire Tricky Creek was a good miler-plus, could handle 9f in the right situation, but most of his best offspring were sprinter/milers.

It's only when you get to the third dam that you find any real 10f stamina in the family and then it is in spades - One Last Bird was by turf marathoner One for All out a daughter of Arc-winner Sea-Bird. Tricky Creek's dam had a similar profile, by His Majesty out of a Nijinsky mare, and from a Galbreath staying family. Sire of the second dam, Stop the Music, sired Belmont winner Temperence Hill. Heck, Harlan's Holiday's dam was by Triple Crown winner Affirmed out of a daughter of Princessnesian, who beat the boys in the 10f Hollywood Gold Cup.

Into Mischief is going to have to find a way to channel his great-grandparents' 10f talents to overcome the distance limitations of his more recent ancestors. Can be done (Balto Star), but the exception rather than the rule.

I nodded off midway through your post and hit my head on the edge of my desk.

Thanks.
