Gammons rips AROD

You have just got to love Gammons and his comments about AROD. And I have to agree with Gammons on this.

Mortimer 10-29-2007 07:32 AM

What did he say about this?

Be back later....doing something.

Anything will be furious.

His comments were right on.

He basically said that this shows that ARod and his Agent, feel he is bigger then the game, and the World Series. Gammons stated that they could have easily waited till after the World Series was over to announce this, but being so selfish and self-aggrandizing they felt the need to put themselves over during the pinnacle of the baseball season. Gammons also made a point to allude to the fact that ARod has never been to the World Series, and maybe there is a reason behind that. I believe his last words in the statement were "buyer beware."

I found the actual quote;

"“What’s unfortunate here is the total disrespect for the game of baseball. This is the World Series. [Boston’s] Dustin Pedroia and Jon Lester are doing what Alex has never done: playing in a World Series game. And to want the attention on this day is kind of a sad commentary and it might be a bit of a ‘buyer beware,’ because, again, he’s never played in a World Series game…maybe there’s a reason.”

And the clip;

Unfortunately for baseball the A-Rod situation is a hell of a lot more interesting than that World Series was.

Yeah, who wants to hear about a kid who just stopped chemo 9 months ago pitiching the winning game in the World Series. I would much rather listen to how ARod wants $30,000,000. a year for 5 years. What a feel good story ARod is, I just get that warm fuzzy feeling...

I hate to be a poopie here...now you all know that...but what's the big deal?

The individual IS bigger than the pro game itself. The game exists only for the benefit of the individual. That's why players have "my players" and that's why they are "kings" and "chosen ones" and yer whatnots.

That's why someone can opt out of a $25 million a year contract because there is always a preordained fool out there who will go to $30 million in order to install a big sissy into their lineup.

I mean who cares about the money? The sucker fans will pay it.

Let's get rid of the notion about any sports hallowed "the game" status.

It doesn't exist anymore.

Thank all that is good we have those OHIO STATE MAD DOG FIGHTING BUCKEYES.

Be more fearful of what would happen to Ohio State.

Fail me once....you die.

Don't even think of failing me twice.

Bring back Butch Hobson. :D

Unfortunately I can see the above happening. He would probably put up huge numbers in Fenway, especially in a line up with Papi and Manny.

That is a fair statement, but I don't see it happening. Lowell will get resigned. The only way I see it happening is if someone takes Lugo and they get ARod to play short...and this will never happen. Lowell stays in Beantown (that and you take him out of Fenway, and I think he goes back to being what the Marlins had his last year there. The Green Monster has resurected his career).

I don't want to see ARod play for the Sox, I hope he goes to LA.

They have NO shot to get anyone to take Lugo with that 3 year contract. You would love Arod if he was there. He may hit 65 hitting in front of Ortiz and Ramirez

I agree on Lugo. The only way he leaves is if the Red Sox take a bag of used balls, and fungo bats, and give whoever takes him another decent prospect and eats all but the league min of Lugo's salary.

I think he would be nasty in that lineup, but I really have never cared for him. I would love his numbers, but not him.

So you want him to go to a major rival? LA Dodgers or Angels?

I would hope he goes to the Dodgers (gets him out of the AL and then he can bomb in the playoffs over there), but from what I have heard, it seems the Angels have one of the best shots at getting him (This still gets him out of the AL East).

Where do you think he goes? If the Yankees stick to their word, they are not going to get him back, I really do not think the Sox will sign him...

Who else is willing or has the money to give him the long term, high priced deal he wants?

If Yankees get Lowell then it is pretty fair to assume Red Sox would go afer Arod. They have the $ to do so.

I HOPE THE INDIANS GET AROD!!!

3kings 10-29-2007 06:36 PM

Isn't this more Boras than A-Rod. He always puts himself in the spotlight when it is brightest. I understand A-Rod employs him but this is the Scott Boras show. A-Rod is trying to get the most money he can and Boras does that for him. It doesn't mean A-Rod agrees with everything that is done, he just may be going along with instructions to get the $$$$$.

Maybe he will go to the Tokyo Brewers and become Brew A Rod.

Kinda like a two way thing there.

Easy fella...

Blew A Rod= Brew A Rod in Japanese

Brew A Rod is also the Brewer term if they were in Milwaukee...which they are.

---------

I should add all this stems from the Detroit Tiger term....Blew a rod( or "threw" a rod).....as in an overstressed engine.

That's for Dimmy.
