Caulfield Cup
Okay kids... who is in and who's out?
|
I hope Master O'Reilly gets in with the 50.5
|
You Are Jokin:eek:
MALDIVIAN (NZ) by a country mile!!! did you see the thing on Sat ? Blitzed em crapped on miss Finland & eased down before hitting the line. Being out of a Zabeel Distance not a prob :D |
Quote:
No doubt. I was hoping Blutigeroo would show more this campaign. Maldivian does look like a beast and Miss Finland wasn't going to pick him up. O'Reilly looked nice this weekend too, but it was a different class race altogether. |
What has happened to Freedman?
He doesn't have anything resembling a cups horse this year? |
Yeah real odd about freedmans bunch, but tell you what he has some really fantastic two year olds this year ,That Exceedingly Good is the Real deal & will only get stronger. Was still hoping maybe better would do something but still nothing,
I got to say this & maybe get shot down but to me Hayes has made some real bad decisions of late, Sometimes a jock just dosnt suit a horse & i dont feel craig williams suits Shrewd Rythim but still craig from day 1 comes out with crap blaming everything but himself & hayes keeps puttting him on with another bad ride on sat how long will this combo piss me off ? |
Quote:
Things aren't working out to plan on a lot of the Lindsay Park critters. I might get shot down as well, but I don't think pointing Miss Finland to the Melbourne Cup is the greatest idea ever. That thing might make me look stupid in a few weeks, but I don't see her being effective at 2 miles. I think her wins at the Oaks distance were just due to suspect fields and her class prevailing. |

Maybe Better (applause!) and Blue Monday (awww, won't win but i like him) are in.....
My question is (shut up and don't laugh :p ) is Railings? |
Quote:
He did win it two years back though. I haven't seen a repeat of his form that Spring since. Similar to how Tawqeet peaked last year and picked up the same Metrop-Caulfield Cup double and then went to shambles. |
Maldivian is definitely the one they have to beat.
I'll be cheering for Princess Coup though. I'd be amazed if she finished outside the first 3. Go the Princess. |

He'll get that huge win one day..... might as well be here! |
Quote:
Mayfield-Smith basically told the press he didn't want to win here as he didn't want a penalty for the major goal...The Melbourne Cup. When they do that, the money stays away. Even the jock will just let him have a good run and put him away I reckon. I know you probably aren't betting, but if anyone is... Stay away from Maybe Better. Once Cup time rolls around, you don't want a huge performance or penalty right before the big one. Especially if you have a true Cup horse, which Maybe Better is. http://www.racingandsports.com.au/ra...asp?NID=114075 |

So I'll just root for him anyway. And Railings. And Blue Monday. And Purple Moon. And..... :p |

I've landed on Master O'Reilly with the 50.5kg.
I'm questioning whether Maldivian can get the 2400. They aren't gonna let him go pressure free. Also firing away at Drac's Back in the seventh. |

Maldivian (NZ) for me, light weight and zabeel blood you'd have to say breed to stay. Blue monday as my dark horse if paying the odds ill covrin it in my exotics |
How about Black Tom?
Anyone using him? |
my pick 4s Are down
8,2,14,13 :D |
I'm feeling good right about now....

I can't find any news but that he won and two were scratched at the gate??? What happened? |
Two favorites scratched at the gate.
I got a shitty price. But he won anyway. Rock on. |

Hope they're both okay. A big congrats to you though..... I didn't think he had a shot. Cheers. Favourites scratched from Caulfield Cup - Master O'Reilly wins 20 Oct 2007 By Rob Burnet In a sensational 2007 Group I BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) the two favourites Maldivian and Eskimo Queen (NZ) were scratched at the barriers after injuring themselves. The race, which started 10 minutes late, was by the Danny O’Brien trained Master O’Reilly with stable-mate Douro Valley second, and New Zealand trained Princess Coup third. A full report on the race will be published shortly. |

Allways said your the man:D pissed about maldivian but thats life ;) |
Hope he's okay... poor thing.
Did Eskimo Queen take lessons from Aqua? Blood and toil as Master O'Reilly wins October 20, 2007 FLEMINGTON trainer Danny O'Brien grabbed the quinella in a sensational Caulfield Cup today when Master O'Reilly wore down his stablemate Douro Valley for a gritty victory. Racegoers were stunned before the race when Maldivian, who had been favourite for the feature for weeks, and second pick Eskimo Queen were shock late scratchings. Eskimo Queen laid down in the gates and lashed out at Master O'Reilly who was boxed next to her. Maldivian became stirred up by the commotion and reared, hitting his head on the gates. He was led from the track with blood pouring from a neck wound. Master O'Reilly was passed fit to start and the rest is history. ”It's a dream come true for me and my stable,'' O'Brien said. ”To get both of these horses here and see them do so well, I'm speechless.'' It was the second recent Group One win for jockey Vlad Duric who won the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on Bon Hoffa at Caulfield on September 22. New Zealand mare Princess Coup was third in today's $2.5 million race. |
He had plenty of run with the 50.5, and I think he was the winner all the way.
But that is easy to say with the two fancies scratching. I might have been lucky, but that's racing. That is three years in a row I have hit the Cup. Railings two back, then I bought a used Daihatsu with the winnings off of Tawqeet last year while standing next to Richard Freedman while it ran. And now Master O'Reilly gets home for me. I'm gonna bet $1,000 next year on my horse. I apparently can't lose this race. |

wow i thought eskimo was dead used to seeing horses go down but she wasnt moving, Mal on the other had was a different matter ,reckon they dicked around for too long behind the gates, being barrier 1 first loaded then the wait & then to rear up & cut his neck open on the advertising sign season gone:-(.All my pick fours started with 8 so dicked before the race started.
Oh Well my best damn race next week !!! reckon ill be trading mal in my horse comps :D |
Master O'Reilly - Melbourne Cup winner???
|
Thrilled by the run of the Princess, she'll love the 3200m and the longer straight.
She was flying the last bit. She did NZ proud. |

This is disturbing..... Shock: Television Clamps Could Have Caused Maldivian's Injuries The Caulfield Cup sensation relating to the late scratching of hot favourite Maldivian has taken an incredible twist this evening. Stewards are to launch a full scale investigation into what caused a large gash down Maldivian's neck which led to the gelding being scratched. Metal clamps used to broadcast television footage from the starting gates was found with traces of blood and could be to blame for Maldivian's injury. It is understood the the microphone and transmitter belonged to the racing industry's official footage company Sportscolour. Maldivian suffered a large gash starting just behind his offside ear and running for at least seven inches. The Mark Kavanagh trained gelding was treated by veterinarians and ten stitches were required to mend the injury. RVL chief steward Des Gleeson confirmed tonight that his panel would conduct a thorough investigation into the possibility that the transmitter and the associated clamps caused the injury that led to Maldivian's scratching. Gleeson said he was unaware of the device being clamped to the gates - believed to be between the first and second stalls. * * * Oh and cheers to the Princess... forgot to say that. |
Yeah, i didn't see the race but one of the lads who i was with today did and said about the gash on the horse's neck. He said it looked quite serious.
I hope everything turns out okay with Maldivian. |

You can see the pre race incidents and the race here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3NLk2uOhwY When they walk Maldavian back to the saddling area you can see the blood on his neck. You also can see the jock thrown backwards when the horse reared up the second time in the gate. |

Apparently he'll be alright, needed 10 stitches and is out for the Spring but they're looking forward to an Autumn campaign with him.
