My horse of the year scenarios

whichever 3 yr old wins the BCC is 3yr old champ, if no 3yr olds win the BCC. Id give it Street Sense on the basis of winning the KY Derby and Travers.

boswd 10-02-2007 10:59 AM

HOY

Street wins the BCC - He wins HOY

Lawyer Ron wins BCC - He Wins HOY

Curlin wins BCC - he wins HOY

Long shots though I highly doubt it - I don't think they have done enough but
Hard Spun if he wins and Tiago if he wins, though I truly don't believe they will. Nashabe's Key is she wins again doubt it.

If Hard spun, tiago or a bomb wins Though it would be tight between Street Sense and Curlin. The Ky Derby outweighs the Preakness but the Jockey Club Gold Cup outweighs the Travers and plus he beat the Top Older Male at the time. It's a toss up but a slight edge would have to go to Curlin.

Does the term HOY mean anything to anyone other then breeders? A meaningless title IMO

hockey2315 10-02-2007 11:55 AM

If Any Given Saturday wins impressively I could definitely see him winning atleast top 3yo. . .

boswd 10-02-2007 11:56 AM

Yeah I forgot about AGS, if he wins it would sure make the voting that much more interesting.

freddymo 10-02-2007 11:57 AM

Any Given Sunday needs to come back and race at 4. He could be the best of them all to continue IF he doesn't stand next year?

Is supposedly coming back for 4yo campaign.. (As of now..)

freddymo 10-02-2007 12:13 PM

Hope he turns out better the SweetnorthernSaint my 06 tout for 07..

boswd 10-02-2007 12:55 PM

Here's a wrench, what if Student Council wins? Where does he fall?

freddymo 10-02-2007 02:46 PM

Wouldn't the others have to fall for Student Council to win..I am sure Neil Howard feels real good about the chemicals running thru SC body. All of a sudden the colt improves 12 lenghts overnight. Must be the oats.

I dont think it means that much to breeders unless they were the ones who bred him

Coach Pants 10-02-2007 03:16 PM

So Any Given Saturday will win the most likely to succeed award?

I wonder who'll win best personality? Teuflesberg? He's got to be an easygoing horsey dealing with that trainer.

OMG I just remembered I left my grande caramel macchiato at the newsstand! Well at least I didn't forget my Star and US Weekly.

Tricky statement because his Beyers are quite similar, he just beat-up a sorry group of west coast horses.

Ever ask yourself why a distinguished horseman like N.Howard couldn't get SC to run a lick and 14 days later he is running off the screen?

10 pnt move up 10-02-2007 03:20 PM

whichever three year old wins the classic wins the three year old championship, obviously its pretty even though I think as it goes hard spun has accomplished the most as he danced most the dances

street sense would have the Derby, Travers
hard spun would have the jim beam, the kings bishop, the kentucky cup classic
any given saturday would have the haskell, brooklyn
tiago would have the santa anita derby, the goodwood

freddymo 10-02-2007 03:24 PM

And the answer is DING DING DING

The Derby and Travers are obviously a billion times more important then any of the races Hard Spun or AGS have won..Keep in mind I really like Hard Spun alot but I you have to be somewhat objective.

Coach Pants 10-02-2007 03:25 PM

Hard Spun wins Most Athletic.

Ya think? lol

Coach Pants 10-02-2007 03:26 PM

I just hope all of the winners sign my yearbook. That would be, like, totally awesome. Ohhh Emmm Geee!!

How much better do you think HS would be is C.Nazger was his trainer?

Horse was looking for a distance of ground. Look at the record - first time he tried 10f, he's a winner. Second time he tries 10f, he's a winner. Not surprising, with a stayer sire in Kingmambo (average progeny win distance 9.9f in Europe) and damsire Kris S (Euro average distance 11.3f).

Don't think he's in a class with the other major BC Classic candidates, but his improvement with the added furlong is not entirely unexpected. Just aren't many 10f stakes races in the center of the country these days.

I believe that US Americans would say that South Africans need maps to find where Hard Spun would be if he uhm and Osama were trained by Carl Nafzger's children.

I would not characterize his all out, rapidly shrinking neck win in the worst Pacific Classic ever as "running off the screen"

I doubt you can syringe a horse to win a grade 1 and easily get away with it. Especially first time Vladimir.

Wow this is good stuff..Let's call Farish and Howard and let them know what they bred and why he is a runner now maybe they can buy him back and stand him next.

I really don't mean to be a jerk but seriously do you believe anything that you wrote above. You think that the horse is starting to come around because he is bred to get get 10 to 14f's? Don't you think Lanesend has a an idea how Mambo's tend to be? Isn't a bit more plausible that N.Howard is not a cheater because his client can't and the new owners can?

I know you are new and all but he has won 2 of the worst handicap races ever run in North America. He is not running huge numbers or doing much more than he was before.

OMG I just defended the syringe and Assmussen....feeling weak....

Which he continues to be. However he may have just landed in the most sluggish spots to date.

He gets within 10 lengths at the BC Classic....and I will admit you are 100% correct

but we both know there is no chance that he will

Then again, why not ask yourself why people thought he was impossible in that race? He was competitive vs Brass Hat, Magna Grad and Wanderin Boy. He certainly was not impossible vs an unproven Lava Man and the rest of that scraggly crew on the synthetic.

This I totally agree with but only because now the colt was being treated with new medication
