Yes, Lawyer Ron at 5/2 is the steal of the century. He will be closer to even money or 4/5, especially if he trains up to the race.

Hard Spun is expected to run so you should add him in. . . I think 5-1 on the field is a little low. . . I like AGS too but I'd also be interested to see if George Washington is entered and what kind of odds he is available at. . .

Any chance for Rags? Or has that already been determined and I just missed it?

Not with Street Sense, Any Given Saturday, Curlin and some Euros in the race. In fact, in light of his stature as a Derby winner, I'd be very surprised if Street Sense wasn't the favorite (assuming that he wins his prep for the Classic). Before we get too crazy about Lawyer Ron, while he did look very good winning at Saratoga, beating the likes of the hardly-stellar Diamond Stripes, Wanderin Boy and Sun King, let's remember that he lost his only start at Monmouth, to a Grade III horse.

Lawyer Ron at 4/5 or even money would be one of the easiest tosses of the century.

Let's see if he runs again before the BC Classic and how he does.

They said the same about Ghostzapper in the BCC and they let him off at like 5/2 or something insane. I think you should get crazy about Lawyer Ron because his figures are HEAD AND TAILS above all these horses and should/would be a stone cold single on BC Day for me. His figures are in the Ghostzapper terriotory right now and while I doubt he could improve, he could regress 4 pts and STILL win. He has been whipped twice in these last two victories, it isn't like he was all out.

Coach Pants 09-04-2007 03:10 PM

Right now Lawyer Ron should be a 3/5 favorite. 5/2 would be like robbing a bank without facing the consequences.

Pretty much how I feel too and the horse that did beat him at Monmouth, Gotcha Gold I feel is a bit more than a Grade III horse at that particular track.

That race is a complete toss. Pletcher goes there to get them legged up. He TRIED the same thing with Flower Alley

Could the Lawyer be a Horse for the Course?

Well then post your morningline rather than giving me sh it. Who was the last 3/5 in the BCC?

Pillow Pants...wtf are those? Those bloomers that Sabu wore in Arabian Nights movies?

BTW, I got 100 bucks that says Lawyer Ron will not win the Classic. Offer good for one taker until midnight

yes, people keep making the mistake of downplaying Lawyer Ron because of that race. that was a 1 turn mile, not Lawyer Rons forte, and Gotha Gold is a fast course specialist at Monmouth which can really favor sprint type speed. Lawyer Ron is a true two turn route horse and not a sprinter.

It's pretty remarkable to look at the lifetime PP's for Ron. He was making starts nearly every two weeks as a two year old until the racing game (and right surface) finally woke him up.

I am giving you the Lawyer. I get the field. At 3/5 it is an overlay for you. And don't forget you have the Robot training. He has a remarkable record in the BC.

How much money has he cost you this summer? You seem awful bitter over him. If you would've took the time to...

A. Calm Down
B. Take a Deep Breath
C. Read

You would've noticed that I said "should."

Why would I take even money when chances are he will be above that? And why do you want to continue to lose betting against him?

Benevolus 09-04-2007 03:36 PM

Based on the fact that Lawyer Ron seems to love Saratoga and ran just an ok race at Monmouth, I think Any Given Saturday will be the favorite if he wins the Jockey Club Gold Cup or any race he runs in before the Classic. If he trains up to the race I would say LR will be the favorite.

Pletcher will have the two best shots to win the race but I will go with Grasshopper to win it all.

Here are some preliminary BCC futures odds. 4-1 is the lowest out there right now.

Anyone read what the plans are for Tiago? (not that he is my selection but one would assume he will go to the Classic)

He's currently at an undisclosed amish farm in Utah pulling a plow in preparation for the BCC.

Actually, you are right...he has cost me money. I singled Wingspan on top of a tri key a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I boxed Mott and Baffert in the Hopeful and got stung. Dumb ass that I am, I didn't just bet the 6/1 Majestic Warrior to win. The Robot gets me coming and going.

Except Lawyer Ron hasnt beaten the like's of St. Liam and Roses in May. This is a weak handicap division that he's beating up on, Langfuhr doesnt scream 10F, and Lawyer Ron doesn't like 10F. GZ was running high 120s beyer.......I'll play against all day in the BC Classic

It's just scary to think how good Lawyer Ron could be when The Robot's barn gets rolling again.

EXACTLY.

NTamm1215 09-04-2007 04:07 PM

The Breeders' Cup has been pretty successful with stopping whatever roll Pletcher's barn is on.

Charismatic1 09-04-2007 05:49 PM

My only worry for LR is whether or not he just really relishes Saratoga. Not to say he can't run well at Monmouth, too, but his last two are just monstrous compared to the rest of his career in my opinion.

While I accept LR being the undeniable horse to beat, I'm going to roll with Grasshopper and Asiatic Boy if he comes over. I'm hoping Haskin isn't playing with my emotions by mentioning the possible inclusion of AB in the Classic. After his UAE Derby, I felt he was the only dirt horse who could contend with Invasor. He'll be a nice price as well if he comes over.

You think Lawyer Ron at 5-2 on September 4th for a race in 8 weeks is a steal? Give me a little while and the Cannon Shell future book will open. I would give you somewhere around 5-2 that he does not make it.

ninetoone 09-05-2007 09:38 AM

i seriously doubt that any horse in the BCC will be under even money.

Where did the race start on route 36? The next 1 turn mile I see at Monmouth Park will be the first. I do agree though that Gotch Gold is better than he is given credit for and Lawyer Ron nearly did run him down against at STRONG Speed Bias. Personally I think that was a good race even though he didn't win.

I thought Monmouth and Laurel both had one turn chute miles. If i'm wrong i stand corrected.
still i agree with you, it was a strong race even in defeat as its hard to make up ground there against a good speed horse like gotcha gold.

miraja2 09-06-2007 06:24 AM

Circular Quay at 25/1 seems a bit odd to me, as does including Perfect Drift and Point Determined at all.
I would put the odds of CQ making the gate at around 35/1, and of winning it at around 75/1.
As for the two PDs, I don't see any chance of them being in that race.

JRTYG 09-06-2007 08:44 AM

Great topic....
I would love to get Any Given Saturday at 5-1!
And maybe a little money on Hard Spun....who drifts down to maybe 11-1? (he's a tough little Hombre...)
