Anyone know of this horse or can they
look up a racing record for:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/captain+lindsay I have a friend who is looking at buying this horse. Is there anyway to find out the history of the horse? Meaning is there a way to find out if he has been hurt before? |
I would assume that a 5 year old gelding good enough to have won $137,573 being offered for sale for $2,200 would have had some injuries, however it appears that he's not in bad condition, considering he's being ridden and doing small jumps.
Coincidentally he is just down the road from me. (35 miles) http://www.equinehits.com/horses-for-sale/horse-117544 Photos, if you haven't seen them. edit, I found him on another site, for $2000 if you haven't seen it, this one has videos http://horsetopia.horse-for-sale.org...fieds/ad209535 |

google provided a little info, but nothing extremely revealing. According to Ped Query and other sources he had 3 wins at 3. Google is an erratic tool, but it appears that he didn't race after his scratch 3/1/06.
A $5 DRF investment for PPS would probably be a good investment. off the board 9/6/2004 Affirmed S Calder won 9/20/2004 Calder 4th Birdonthewire S 10/23/2004 Calder entered 12/11/04 #10 Tampa Bay 2nd 1/22/05 Pasco S Tampa Bay 3rd 3/12/2005 Gulfstream 3rd 4/30/2005 Unbridled S Calder entered 5/14/2005 Calder result unknown entered 5/28/2005 Calder result unknown entered June 2005 Calder result unknown entered / scratched $37K optional allowance Gulfstream 3/1/2006 |

The person should be more interested in a vet check. They aren't going to race the horse, so what does it matter what its race record was. Plus, if someone is buying a horse, they should know enough to be able to find out the info they need without having someone come on an internet forum asking for help. Some of the worst people in the horse industry I've had the displeasure of dealing worth are buyers who don't know what they are doing. They want a stake winner of $8.7mil with absolutely no health issues for $87 so they can ride it around in the back yard. Pain in the a$$...... |

I asked because I wanted to know. As I am a fan of racing, was interested. The 13 year old girl getting him was interested too. Her parents had him vet checked. I don't know the outcome of that vet check yet.
Sorry I asked if Phystech was so offended by me asking. Thanks for the info Echo Farm. :) |

Not offended, just being realistic. I should have known a 13 yr old girl was involved in this..... been down that road too many times. "Gee Mister, I know you want $1500 for your horse but will you take $87 - it's all I have from my allowance and I just LOVE your horsie. Oh look, his knee is swollen - I don't want him " |
DRF has him last racing on 04/23/06. (That's as much info as they'll share for free. :) )

Note to self "put Phystech on the Morty list". To be honest, the 13 year old hasn't seen the horse live yet. Trainer found it, looked at it, rode it, parents looked at it and they are buying it. 13 year old was just interested in knowing his background. |

Thank you. |
Hi Buffy,
I understand wanting to know. I bought a mare right off the track last summer. Even though I understood that she was offered to me because she had never had much racing success(and didn't want to race anymore) I was still curious about her past life. I ended up getting a picture of her one win, plus I have some of her races on video. I also own a *huge* collection of racing photos, but the picture of my girl Canagua is the featured photo! She is so quiet and laid-back, unlike my other hot-head horses. She will soon be my "Guest Riding Horse"! People are always so amazed and impressed to see a picture and a video of her winning a race. Let's face it,,,,she wasn't fast enough to stay on the track but she is *much*, *much* faster than the average rider needs to experience. Good luck with your ex-racer. Suzanne |

Not all 13 year old kids are like that... I wasn't when I got my first horse. |

The girl bought him. She adores him. She has dubbed him "Bubba" as a barn name. She doesn't like Captain Lindsay as a show name so she is thinking of one. Mom is an equine massage therapist and went over him with a fine tooth comb when he got there Sunday. Maybe a LITTLE bowed tendon in a minor tendon in the past, but nothing to be concerned about. She has seen much worse. Vet didn't say anything about it, she felt it though. He vet checked clean too by the way. Suzanne, how did you find the pic of your horse's win? I would love to find one for this girl. She is sad about losing her other horse and I would love to give her a winning picture the day Freddy(her old horse that she has sadly outgrown) leaves. She has him up for sale right now and a few people are looking at him. |

I'm late to the party here, but Danzig is right about the pp's being able to tell you basic info. My horse made 2 starts at 2, in the second he DNF...then he disappeared for 2 years before he started again....so we knew he had gone wrong somewhere...when I vetted him we ultrasounded his front legs and found an old suspensory tear...along with problems in virtually every other joint in his legs....but for a thousand bucks plus 500 for the radiographs and ultrasound who cares?

The horse actually came with all of his papers. Racing records and all. :) He is the biggest sweetheart. I was just really curious as to his racing background. The 13 year old was too. But yes Danzig is correct. Knowing he layoffs, etc... is a helpful thing. We did find out that he was gelded at 3 and a half years old. Didn't place in any races as a four year old. |

He does like the fillies though. He whinnies at each and every mare they walk by him. Hee hee. They put him in a paddock with the girl's other horse, Freddy. Freddy will turn him gay in a heartbeat. |
Buffy,
I just looked at her race record and saw she had her *one* win at Thistledown(I know, boo-yah!), so I emailed the track photographer. (got the email addy from the T-down website) I needed to provide the date and race #. Turns out she *won* only due to a disqualification. I guess by the time the stewards got it figured out it was too late for an actual "Winner's Circle" photo, but he sent me a photo of her from the race, which I actually think is even cooler! Then I watched all her races on Race Replays. It is soooo thrilling to watch the old races. Friends and guests just LOVE it! I had one friend that just couldn't get over it. He kept asking, "that horse in those races???,,,,,that's that brown horse I *just* fed carrots to???? ""Are you positive??? I mean,,,,the horse from those races,,,,,,she's in your pasture RIGHT NOW???żżżż!!!" It was too funny! Tell your friend good luck with her new guy. Hope she has a blast with him. I love my girl and wouldn't hesitiate to get another OTT horse. I'll try to attach her race picture. She's #8. Suzanne Rockland Valley farm |
Glad the horse has a new owner that loves him! Go Bubba!
|
I'll try to post the picture tomorrow. I must be attachment-impaired right now. (i only had 2 bbers, Officer, I SWEAR!!) Apparently, my file is too big. I'm almost half insulted.....like maybe what "they" really mean is that my @$$ is too big!!!
Hahaha, Later, Suzanne |

Here is a picture of the girl on "Bubba". They are doing their first horse show this weekend (IF it doesn't get rained out). |

He's beautiful! And they fit so well together.
The expression of concentration on her face is priceless! I hope they do very well together this weekend - keep us posted! :) |
Thanks Cajun & Lindsey. She did come up with a showname for him. (She didn't like Captain Lindsey)
Lifeislikeaboxofchocolates... The show may be rained out. It has been raining heavy here on and off all day. She had a beautiful lesson this afternoon though. I missed it. Her mom filled me in. We have 9 kids going to the show. |
Just an update for you ladies. For a 5 year old throughbred who was going to his first show, Bubba was absolutely AMAZING. He acted like a total professional. He was a little excited, but listened and never acted like anything bothered him. I was totally amazed. His owner even said, if I didn't have his paperwork and matched up his tattoo with the vet, I would swear this horse wasn't 100% throughbred.
She did five flat classes (walk/trot/canter). They only pinned in one class. A sixth in the equitation class out of about 15 riders. The others he picked up the incorrect lead in his bad direction at the canter. The last class she did, she did wonderfully but then the judge made them drop their stirrups and asked for a posting trot. She hadn't tried this on him before and I think she got a little nervous when he got excited and started to speed up at the trot. Overall she was very happy with him. She didn't really work on getting him framed up at all and was just there to give him the experience. She handled everything well and the smile on her face when she got the sixth place ribbon was priceless. Bubba is off to a wonderful new life as a show horse!!! |
