DC United - Galaxy

I bought tickets months ago to hopefully see the DC debut of Becks. Little did I know that it would also end up being the official MLS debut of the English sensation. Beckham warmed up for the last ten minutes or so of the first half, came out late for the second, warmed up some more, then removed his warmup jersey, put on his long-sleeve game jersey (in 90 plus degree temperatures!) and made his way to the pitch.

Most folks don't care about soccer, but for those Americans who do, this was undoubtedly the biggest domestic moment in soccer in a long, long time. I'm actually contemplating DC United season tickets now. There were over 46,000 people in rusty old RFK. I've never seen that many people there for a Nationals game or any other event. Beckham is going to be a great thing for the American soccer community.

Ya well from the looks of your photo you weren't so competetive Dispencer.

You look more like the loser in AndyPanda's Steel TetherBall Championships.

Spending five years as the starting goalie on a team ranked in the country's top 25 would normally qualify one as "competitive."

Draw your own conclusions.

soccer? whats the point? an hour of wind sprints and when they want a break, they roll around on the field like they've be shot, and five minutes later run back on the field like a hero.

just not enough depth. Yet! if Bama loses a couple lineman on either side of the ball, season Over! report i got was thier conditioning is EXCELLENT!
if the the O-line improves at all, they'll score plenty of points because they have weapons. D will give up points because of NO experience.
8-4, i wouldn't be surprized by 7-5.

If you question the competitiveness and athleticism of soccer I invite you to take a good look at the scars on my left knee.

It was pouring rain and I ran in to chip the ball up and over the defense's head when two girls slid in the mud and came crashing into my leg. Pop! And down I go. I spent my entire senior year in a full brace after having plastic grafted into my ACL and MCL along with several staples.

I may wear a skirt 90% of the time, but soccer chicks are tough. :D

As long as you go shoulder to shoulder most refs don't care how many people you take down on your way to the goal.

i almost broke an ankle playing soccer, two of us went to kick the ball at the same time--ball went straight up into the air. then there was the time someone kicked a ball and it went about fifteen feet, right into my face. ah, blood flow when a nose gets broken....

i like to play soccer...well, i did way back when. but i like to play baseball as well. as for watching? yawn

Samarta 08-11-2007 07:11 AM

Oh sorry, it wasn't a lack of pride, but that I was actually doing things like going to the track and seeing friends this weekend instead of making 400 inane posts. Priorities my friend.

You may be still able to find the rankings tucked away online somewhere, it was several years ago -- would have been Arsenal FC out of Illinois between U15 and U19 club rankings between 1998 and 2001.

Really?

I made 400 posts this weekend?

Boy ..that's a lot! How did ya know..did you count them?

Anyways.....I'm glad you have priorities Dispencer...I really am. After all...it's very important to spend a whole weekend at the race track with other highly promising new members for alchoholics and gamblers anonymous.I'm sure invertebrates everywhere admire you and your priorities.

Ya know...didn't know what inane meant so I had to look it up....not having the education I am sure you do.I figured it meant stupid so being the dummy I am I looked up stupid first to see if it meant inane. One of the things that turned up in the stupid search was yourspace!!

Now that is stupid.....maybe even inane...but I still don't know what that means.

Do you use eyeliner Dispencer?

I would think if you really did this soccer thing you would know exactly where all the links in the world are....to prove your claim. So just give one up will ya?.

You know ....your photo looks like you stopped one too many soccer balls with your head...so maybe it is true.

Mortimer 08-13-2007 10:59 AM

Dispencer.

I read your mydisgrace editorial.....oh my God!!

You and your friends are very disturbed.

I'm sorry I looked at it...you actually advertise that thing?

Oh well..I'm not going to do it.

I'm not going to make fun of doorknobs anymore.Good luck Dispencer.
