Spa Poll

Where do you prefer to be for a day at the races?

Reserved seat in the Grandstand or Clubhouse

or

Out in the Backyard

ARyan 07-24-2007 09:21 AM

I enjoy the clubhouse, and I love being on the turn at the top of the stretch pinic area. Those are my two favorite places. However, out back with a big group of people is fun too.

Cajungator26 07-24-2007 10:29 AM

I'm a bar fly and a rail bird. :D

I like to be as close to the horses as I can get. I don't need a clubhouse seat.

same here.. i like to be outside at the top of the stretch or several yards down from the top of the stretch where I can see the horse and the moves they are making.. can always watch replays later.

I have come up with more winners watching from that vantage point than any other method of handicapping

Ditto. :)

Storm Cadet 07-24-2007 10:46 AM

Paddock...then to clubhouse to watch the races. Between races a quick pit stop at Byks for some refueling on BBQ and Diet Cokes!

When the PA guys are there...spend time in Festival Tent they reserve and always spend one day watching and betting from the backstretch 6 F start area with SUV and food/drinks.

Zaf 07-24-2007 11:06 AM

Backyard :)

estreetposse 07-24-2007 11:09 AM

Backyard Party...I've had horrible luck at the Top O'the Stretch...even though it is a great vantage point.

Backyard...near the path to watch to horsies go by...visit Phonsey for a Vodka /Tonic at the JD...hit the rail for a race...hit some BBQ...back to the beer in the backyard...repeat as often as necessary...finish the day at Filiberto's!!!

Anywhere "on track" .....the farther away from Yakk & "Mr.Pletcher" Kramer, the better! :D

Benevolus 07-24-2007 01:58 PM

The only knock on Saratoga is the seating. You have to fork out good money to get seats. They aren't worth it. The backyard always seems to be more fun anyway. It beats Churchill in the summer though. :)

As close to the Miller Lite tap as possible...

I believe that is between Sections T and V, maybe R and T.

Im not sure which one is my favorite...but I know exactly where it is:D

Downthestretch55 07-24-2007 02:20 PM

The paddock is my favorite place. Club house rarely.

The one I go to usually has the bearded lady working at one of the two registers. I try and go to the other register.

She must be from Roanoke, VA

Are you talking about my "gender conflicted" cousin Lester? He doesn't like to shave, and most of the relatives call him Klinger. Legs to die for though, if only he'd shave them!

Payson Dave 07-24-2007 02:55 PM

Between just outside the Jim Dandy bar and the pathway where the horseys go from the paddock to the track....
also it is actually kinda nice being at a teller window cashing winnings also..

edit to respell padock to paddock....per Ms S Seek's post below

Sightseek 07-24-2007 02:59 PM

Favorite spot to watch...a box :D

Favorite spot at the track overall...along the path to watch the horses walk to the paddock.

Heels1989 07-24-2007 03:17 PM

Don't care for the "Lite", but still it's beer..................:p

TheSpyder 07-24-2007 03:42 PM

My favorite spot

There's a spot downstairs in the clubhouse area, maybe the Jim Dandy bar someone else mentioned, of about 15 tables that's a bar right next to the walk out to the track from the paddock. From there you can slip upstairs (when they are not guarded) to be at the top of the 2nd floor clubhouse and stand and watch the races. You can get everywhere you want which is what makes Saratoga great. I like to be all over the place...including my first visit to Carolina BBQ which is a great place to sit by the way.

Spyder

The Travers Bar. My preference if I can procure a table. Second choice is the ground floor of the Carouel

trifecta124 07-24-2007 05:52 PM

Back Yard....Sitting by the fence so I can watch the horses pass on the way to the paddock.

Paddock.

Bigsmc 07-24-2007 08:09 PM

Can't possibly imagine being at the track and not watching them run live. Tried watching from the BBQ patio last year and thought it was kind of silly to watch a race on TV when the actual horses were less than a 1 minute walk from where I was standing.

So, my answer is, backyard until post parade and rail or seats for the race.

Feel the same...I can sit at home/OTB and watch horses race on TV. I'm not driving 4 hours to watch TV!...
