More Brits going to Hong Kong (and the USA)
by David Carr
. DERBY seventh Kid Mambo has been sold for a ‘significant' sum and is to leave Terry Mills's yard to continue his racing career in the far east. The colt, who finished third in the Lingfield Derby Trial and was then beaten just over ten lengths behind Authorized at Epsom, had his last run in owner Jeff Daniels' colours when fourth in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot. “He has been sold to race for an owner in Hong Kong and he's currently in quarantine,” Mills's assistant Richard Ryan said on Monday. “It's very sad to see him go - it always is when you lose a smart horse - and there was probably a bit more to come from him. “He's a big, strapping, strong horse and he is out of a half-sister to Selkirk who improved with age. “He was very tough and genuine and a pleasure to train. He was very progressive at two and he carried that forward this year. “It's very sad but it is a business. The owner has a number of horses with us and he hasto rationalise when a nice profit is available - he went for a significant sum.” Also leaving for Hong Kong is St Philip, who finished third in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot for trainer Ralph Beckett. He is set to become a stablemate of Hong Kong sprint star Absolute Champion in the yard of David Hall. Last year's Lingfield Derby Trial winner Linda's Lad, ridden by Frankie Dettori when finishing ninth behind Sir Percy in the Derby, has left Andre Fabre for the USA. Owner Sean Mulryan's racing manager Herve Barjot said: “He has gone to Eddie Kenneally in Keeneland. “We think there are a lot of good races for him over there, especially over a mile and a half on turf. He has been there for about two months and we hope he will be ready to run in September.” ******** Watch out for St Philip, MMSC. He is the sort of horse i think you will like (he sometimes has a mind of his own) :D |
Yea!!! Great news!
I've checked import schedule, new import allocation of ratings, former names (just incase) and pp import performance and profile but nothing yet... goess they do it after they clear quarantine and it IS a little slow there now. I mean, the pool was just re-opened two days ago! :D (A little concerned... Bullish is usually the first one in and he's not on either list. Hmmmm.....) Hope these boys do better than poor little Puerto Rico. :( edit - Do you know who the trainers are? |
Don't know about kidmambo, but it says St Philip will be trained by David Hall. Is he good? I don't know much about racing over there.
|
Yeah, he is pretty good....

Absolute Champion was his big horse this past season and had some nice surprises like Beethoven. Nice choice. If you see any go to Ng, he's like the king of the (physically) troubled. O'Sullivan is my favorite..... kinda Mandella-esque. Fownes, Size, Ferraris and my poor Mr. Dennis Yip are really good too. |
Hall won a little race called the Melbourne Cup with Makybe Diva right before he came to Hong Kong.

No record of either yet.....
Here are a few of the newest arrivals..... Montecristo (new name... Master Cristo) to Ng Stormpastthepost (new name... Winning Speed), The One, Real Cheeky and Tower Cat (now Cool Cat) to O'Sullivan :) Artwork (new name... Fever Pitch) and Deferentialto to Fownes Slow Waltz to Size Fantastic Dancer... Woods Keepem... Hall Stolen Thunder... Chang Diego Garcia  to Yip :) |

Miss having him here though...although his brother Lance is running the stable alright in his absence! Keepem's a pretty talented horse, hope he does well over there. I hate losing horses overseas though. :( We have a really talented horse called Align To Infinity, if he wins on Saturday he's on his way to HK too. |
Quote:
Keep me up to date on Align to Infinity so I can keep track of him in HK. Not much to look at right now except for who is swimming but when and if he goes over there i can tell you what is new rating is and who trains him. (... and if he likes the pool or not). :D O'Sullivan is a saint. Best Gift was fortunate to have him as his trainer. Others would have destroyed him (cough cough Tony Cruz). |

Why do you say that? Is he a nasty trainer or something? I think you'll some St Philip, mmsc. He is a very good horse on his day, but he likes to have..... how can i put this....... a bit of fun at the track now and again. If he gets it into his head that he isn't going to load in the gates, nothing will get him in them. I remember seeing him at Kempton (i think) he he just stood there with his ears pricked, head held high while people were trying to push him towards the gates. |
Quote:
I say it because I'm a horribly mean person and i think he's mediocre as far as trainers go. :D |
Wasn't sure where to put this but this is for Ms. Bloom incase she returns.....
Dave's Best with Douggie up in batch 1. :) http://www.hkjc.com/english/press/btrs.asp |

Has he raced out there before this??
Interesting to see that Sean Mulryan still owns him. |

Gotta love the old guy, Revved Up but alas..... a nice field. |
Uh oh.
Here, No Chance. 驊綵 It means Elite Champion and it's St. Phillip's new name. * * * From SCMP..... A good idea. What's in a name? More turnover if identity is revealed ON THE RAILS, with ALAN AITKEN In the era of globalisation, the Jockey Club might do well to investigate what can be done about ensuring that overseas punters are aware of the underlying identity of the horses on which they bet. Particularly with reference to Europe and Australasia, the almost-routine name change horses receive when they arrive in Hong Kong for their new owners often serves to muddy the waters for players in foreign countries. One good example from Monday's racing is Enthused, who was carving a very promising career as Let's Migrate in Melbourne, including defeat of a subsequent Group One performer at his final start. Doubtless punters in Australia would be more encouraged to back the horse in his Hong Kong races knowing his previous name, but when they look on the field lists at the name Enthused, it means little to them. And, of course, there are many, many other similar cases. One suggestion is that since Hong Kong owners give their horses a Chinese name as well, they should not be allowed to alter the English name, but this column doesn't think that's very fair to owners who have spent significant money to buy the rights, including naming rights, to their horse. Perhaps field listings in other jurisdictions betting on Hong Kong should always carry the extra detail, ex-Let's Migrate (Australia) for example. It's a small thing, but might add up to some turnover bucks in the commingling future. |

I don't agree with it, but i know they have every right to do so. However, i do wish they would print their old names as well as their new ones. It would makes it much more appealing to the european racing fan, especially me who would love to follow Hong Kong racing but i don't know who is who out there of the ex european horses. |

Sometimes things are worded carefully but at least they published this. The HKJC isn't thrilled with certain pieces that they've done and as you know they're VERY powerful. You go, SCMP! :D |

Maybe his new name will be Helene Win.....
Salford Mill sold to continue racing career in Hong Kong by Tony Elves DERBY also-ran Salford Mill has been sold for an undisclosed sum to continue his racing career in Hong Kong and is likely to leave Newmarket in around two weeks time. The son of Peintre Celebre landed the Listed Newmarket Stakes on the Rowley Mile course by length and a quarter from Acapulco before finishing sixth of 17 to Authorized at Epsom, where he didn't have the best of luck in running. Salford Mill has his final start for David Elsworth in the Group 3 Arc Trial at Newbury last month and his trainer expects him to prove a very useful acquisition to Hong Kong. Elsworth said: “Salford Mill has gone into quarantine and is going to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks' time. “He was a lovely horse and we reluctantly sold him but it was a commercial decision and money speaks all languages. He looks the sort to improve considerably and I would have loved to have been able to train him next year but there you go.” |
