Name my Farm!!!

Hey everyone,
I'm back, after being offline since mid-May. (the horrors!!!) I'm completely moved to my farm, except for my hosses,,, they are about 80 miles away but should be here by next weekend. The excavator has been here all day, my barn materials arrived today and the fence guys(God BLESS them!!)have been driving posts for 3 days now. Apparently I've bought a piece of the rock!! My Ramm vinyl fence should be here tomorrow. As soon as my barn is up I want to advertise for lay-ups at the local tracks. I guess it would be nice if I had a farm/stable name. Any ideas? Thanks for any input, although I realize this might be like one of those pets that names themselves!!!

Cheers,
Suzanne in *gorgeous* Ohio. (Life is GOOD!!!)

Rockland

geeker2 07-12-2007 07:16 PM

Perhaps you can take a clue from the Porn industry ;)

In this case I guess you just add FARM at the end :D

simply take your middle name and combine it with the name of the street you live on. You can make exceptions if you live on "45th Ave" or some such street by choosing the nearest cross street or a street you used to live on. Or you can just make one up by combining the names of tools, verbs and hard objects. For example, "Ramrod Steel" or "Sledge Thrustmaster."

It's a 20 acre farm in central Ohio. I'm about an hour northeast of Columbus; 2 hours south of Cleveland. The town is called Warsaw. Basically, I'm in BFE, which I am *loving*!!! Its gorgeous here,,,,quiet and very green!! The neighbors are simple and friendly, just like me. (though I tend more to the simple side). Most of the neighbors are farmers with 200+ acres. Most of my acreage is in pasture/hay, almost all in front of my house, with a long drive and woods behind me. I just picked up a pizza and some cold beers at the local corner store, the only store for 15+ miles. I honestly think I died and went to heaven!!! And not that I'm looking right now(heck, I'm *plenty* busy), but the icing on the cake would be to have someone to share all this with. (plus the bills are piling up,,, LOL!!) But even alone I'm not really *alone*!! I've got all these pets, horses, friends and now a whole slew of nutty neighbors that I just love! I will be posting pix soon. Maybe I will photo-document the building of my barn here on Derby Trail.

Geeker,
I'm trying to use that Porn name thing, but its not really working for me. My middle name is "Marie", guess my mom should have named me something more exotic, like Misty or Windy.

Sightseek,
I'm liking "Rockland", or some variation on that. There is a ton of limestone here. I've been told I could open a quarry. Something to fall back on if the job goes all shitty!!

AeWingnut 07-12-2007 08:21 PM

when I think of Ohio I think of overcast skies with lots of rain

I think you should name the farm after my last dog

Grey Star

or you could use the other name I called her,

Boogie :p

boogie farm ?

largo1 07-12-2007 08:22 PM

"Largo Farms...and Equine Spa"

Kinda like that too! Just FYI,about my posting ID name, Largo is my most near and dear horse ever. My second horse, she came to me mostly untrained at age 3. I didn't know much about horses then, but I was an eager audience and she taught me well!! She was the first horse I ever galloped cross-country for miles and miles(and miles!) and I thank her for that privilege. I endurance raced her quite successfully for a couple years, then became too busy with school and work to compete. Now, 21 years later, she is still in my pasture(along with her obnoxious but equally treasured daughter), and at the ripe old age of 24 she is still sound and *thinks* she's still an endurance horse! I give lessons on her, but only to very confident riders, because she can still be too much to handle. But for the few riders that "click" with her, she is still an amazing ride, like riding watered silk.

Wow, I live sorta near a "Stonecreek", but not near enough. It would be too confusing. I'm originally from Md., and know Rock Creek Park pretty well. "Something"(*not* Buckeyes are Losers) Creek Farm sounds very nice. I need to see if there is a creek near me, I bet there is. (and yeah, the whole Fla. thing will blow over, but the Buckeyes will continue to be a force in all sports)(sorry, had to fit that in there) (but too long for a farm name, dontcha think?)

AeWingnut,
"Grey Star Farm" is a beautiful name, but, seriously, it is so damn sunshiney bright here I think I need shades. Ohio is only grey in the winter. Today we had bright blue skies with cotton candy clouds everywhere. Made me wish I had the hammock set up.

Suzanne(shhhhhhhhhhh, I think O-H-I-O is a well-kept secret!)

largo1 07-12-2007 08:44 PM

Youuuuz guyz are killing me!! Do I have a bridge? Good question,,, I don't know. Guess I'll drive around tomorrio and look for a creek, bridge, hill, cross, church, fort, trail,,,,,,,SOMETHING!!! Based on whats near right now, I think I'd have to go with"Feastering Raccoon Ranch". Nice ring, but not the overall image I'm striving to achieve.

Keep 'em coming, please!!

Suzanne(yes, I'm a farmer,,,I'm even tax exempt now!!)
