Joel

Joel I don't know what was said after I logged off but those threads are gone so obviously it turned ugly. I'm a typical NY ball buster. I remembered every word you said about FC and I called you on it. I certainly didnt mean for it to turn that ugly. You have passion and zeal for the game, which places you far above most people I know in my opinion. I got on you over a bad call, certainly didnt mean for it to turn ugly and Im sure when I screw up you will return the favor. Peace.

Exceller 07-02-2006 04:06 PM

I think they took the threads down and sold them to be made into a daytime soap opera.

LOL Exceller!
I know this wasn't addressed to me, so not for me to comment, other than the FC thread was an interesting read.
Good for you, Mike, for saying so...

Horse racing brings out the deepest passions.
Well almost, a pretty lady, bottle of wine....
Peace all.

Exceller 07-02-2006 04:17 PM

Those threads were actually good reads but Oracle got a little too NY on the guy. I wouldn't have bashed him so much, but he did stick his neck out there by attacking Funny Cide. Funny Cide has a vicious fan base and I love watching people go after the FC haters. FC is a tough horse and other than the top handicap horses he can beat anyone.

Exceller,
Who the heck are you kidding?
"A little too NY"???

There can never be enough NY!!

zippyneedsawin 07-02-2006 04:24 PM

I must say, I don't like the fact that threads are just "removed" because of a little lively discussion. If it becomes offensive or obscene, that's one thing. I know this isn't exactly a "public" forum, but come on, where's the first amendment right to free speech? If I want to call Kasept a "poopy head," or Oracle a "doofus", is that going to to get removed too??

SCUDSBROTHER 07-02-2006 04:26 PM

That is the response I expected from a NYer.

What is Randwyck anyway? There is Randwick in Australia. Is that what Oracle's track name comes from?

Guys what I say here is never personal. I have to admit that Joel telling that story about Todd got my goat, but since then I got a little more info and perhaps Joel will fill us in on what he LEFT OUT about that incident.
Anyone who is passioante about this game is a friend of mine, and thats Joel.
But when he talked smack about Funny Cide(if Joel knew my history he would know that I took serious artillery when I said that Empire Mker was twice the horse he was and would mulch him in the Belmont, I was friggin Darth vader at the time) he would know that I have never been his biggest fan. But when a horse wins like that you have to tip your hat to his gameness and his fans who help make this game go round.
heck Exceller, I have wished you luck with your horses despite our skirmishes and when your horses win I will be the first one on here to congratulate you, and I mean that. Its a tough game, believe me.
Nothing is gonna ruin my mood this weekend and i wish Joel and everyone else an incredibly happy 4th. I just bought what I think will be a very nice horse for a client, its warm and sunny here, and I have been talking to a very nice "mare". I'm happy as a clam, and wish everyone a wonderfully happy and safe holiday weekend.

OK, let me make it clearer for you.

This BS of griping in chat rooms because someone doesn't like the host's decisions is as boorish as it is prevalent. You are a guest of Steve's here. He makes the rules and the decisions. Since you have graciously been allowed into his house, so to speak, while you are entitled to your opinions, it would certainly be nice, as a guest, if you kept them to horse racing ( at least in the racing rooms ). Otherwise, believe it or not, you appear ungrateful.

OK. I agree with that. I guess I've been used to the freedom of a fully "public board." I do prefer to keep the discussions about horse racing as well.. I admit I didn't actually get to read what led to the removal of the other thread.. I can only assume it was justified. That's the end of the "non-horse" discussion from my end. :o

blackthroatedwind 07-02-2006 04:50 PM

You didn't miss much.

I'm sure a similar thread will pop up again....probably too soon.

Thanks.

I read the entire threads and didn't see anything to warrant their removal.
It wasn't like a bad or obscene post was removed, the entire threads were taken down. These threads were as I remember discussions by regular members, not trolls.

You think I'm out of line when I mention personally witnessing Pletcher shamelessly yell out foul language in front of several of Churchill Down's Derby customers, but I now have 'thin skin' when you choose to take a thread about our differences in horse racing and add personal busts in it such as mentioning my father and our rat La-breds, and deforming me based on probable fabricated information about me that you supposedly heard from mutual acquaintances???

No...I think you were out of line...opinions are to debate, but instead you view things as arguments to be won....you have to remember that nobody is right or wrong here and there are no winners or losers..it is absolutely childish and imaginary to think otherwise...that is why opinions are so great because they are not fact...what don't you grasp about that?

I am proud of our racing operation just like Sakatoga is proud of their operation...sure I'd love to own Funny Cide and so would've Frankel and Juddmonte..who wouldn't want to own a horse that made seven figures? My job as an analyst is to judge the highest level of racing because that is where the sport's dynamic lies....that has nothing to do with the horses my dad and I can afford...I know they are relatively slow in the big scheme of things...I also know that Funny Cide is slow when talking about the top handicap horses...you have totally misread me...

The best thing that I can probably do is avoid your posts from now on...if that is the only way to keep this negative, counterproductive energy and waste of time to a minimum then so be it....I would hope that we wouldn't have to go to those measures...if you disagree with me then that is fine..chime in with your opinion, but don't attack me...there is nothing worse than a guying acting tough behind a key board...

Kasept 07-02-2006 06:05 PM

In regards to my taking the threads down, I did not care for the tone or example they set for anyone coming here for the first time. The Private Messenger system can be used for those kinds of personal exchanges. I don't have the patience to remove just the messages I find ill-advised and mean-spirited, so threads will come down instead. There were three whose tones echoed both the above.

I know both parties well, and doubt either really wanted those statements left hanging in the air. Strictly my call, and I hope all Trailers understand the position I have to take... My name is attached to this website; I am a co-host of a daily national horseracing radio show; I am a partner in a business that works with MEC, CDI and NYRA and I am charged with administering a decorum here obliged to meet a minimum standard to which I can answer.. I'm sure everyone can understand that...

You guys are ruining the best horse racing site on the internet. Where Reginal Denny when you need him..."can't we all just get along?"... Just as we have difffernces in every race we have a right to have them in the forum. It's a collective pool but these cheap shots. Common! You opinion is about racing not a fellow poster.

Go meet out back of the bar and fight it out. We'll find out who lives and who gets cut up.

Yeah I agree, a guy acting tough behind a keyboard pretty much sums up a guy who bashes a horse for weeks, says very CLEARLY that the horse will never win another graded stakes race, and then fails to have the guts to just say he goofed instead of making excuses and asking folks to cry him a river because he goofed. Good luck, you will need it.

Saga continues......can't wait to see where this conversation turns to......

eurobounce 07-03-2006 01:01 AM

Why do we even talk about Funny Cide. The horse is a has been. Great in two races in 2003 and one race in 2004. We are in 2006. We have some great horse racing on the horizon. Declans Moon just had a great work today. Fatest of 30 at the distance. Why are we talking about a low level Grade III horse when we have horses like Flower Alley, Bernardini, Happy Ticket, Lava Man, Dubai Escapade, Lady Of Venice etc etc. It is great to agree to disagree. Remember, it takes a bigger man to decide to bring something that is going nowhere to an end than it does to keep it going.

Anyway......Wait Awhile looked pretty good today.

Dunbar 07-03-2006 01:03 AM

I saw only the start of the thread. On the one hand, I thought oracle had every right to serve up CR's Funny Cide disparagement in light of FunnyCide's fine weekend win. CR could have ended it by saying "I was wrong about FC never winning another Graded race."

On the other hand, if oracle got into things like "daddy's spoiled brat" and "ratty LA operation", that's a whole different level than arguing about Funny Cide. IMO, a personal attack is a different dimension of bad posting than simply not taking responsibility for a wrong prediction. I'd be pretty pissed, too, if I were CR.

oracle's post at the top of this thread was a very nice gesture. I can understand CR's unwillingness to immediately reciprocate if what CR says was said was actually said.

We are talking about him because we like fact that he wasn't whisked away to stud as soon as he raced 10 times. And we like the fact that he can still compete in graded races 3 years after his burst of excellence.

Those are all fine horses. Is there a restriction on Derby Trail on how many horses we can like or talk about? I may have missed seeing the quota.

Ha! You put up a post sure to inflame Funny Cide fans, and then end it with a plea to not "keep it going". How about being the "bigger man" yourself, and not writing stuff like "The horse is a has been"?!

Sheer hypocrisy.

My mom is an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, and she regularly goes on about the ridiculously confusing parts of the language she has to teach. Stuff like "by tomorrow, I will have done this"..

It's amazing that so many people can speak it well.

I don't envy her task, Ateam. But at least we English speakers don't have to learn the gender of things like windows and hands. In German, which I have struggled with for too many years, you have to change the endings of articles and adjectives depending on both the gender of the noun and whether it is used as a subject, object, or indirect object.

The German word for girl is Mädchen, which is neuter, not feminine. If you were to say something like "She is a nice girl" in German, you wouldn't use the normal "she". You would use "it". "It is a nice girl" is the way it might seem to a non-native German; but a native German speaker would hear it as we hear "she is a nice girl".

Conversely, a German would say the equivalent of "He is a nice table", if he likes the table. Sometimes you hear Germans making this kind of mistake when they speak English.

And I hear Polish is far more difficult grammatically than German. Not to mention the severe vowel shortage the Poles have been experiencing for centuries.

Whoa, way off topic and way more than anyone wanted to know!

He cant go to stud so he will be raced as long as he can continue to earn paychecks...
