ESPN and this "now" crap

Will they give me a break with this BS?

3kings 07-02-2007 05:23 PM

Cannon ,

I agree. There is nothing going on in sports now, but this is laughable. They pass this crap off as if the the whole public has been clamoring for this nonsense. Thirty-five minutes of baseball and ten minutes of this self-serving junk along with 1 minute of each other sport makes for quite the stimulating Sports Center. It's good they repeat it about 8 times, because if I missed something my life would be so empty.

ESPN= Ever Self Promoting Network

3kings 07-02-2007 05:40 PM

That is the truth. The best is when they have an original series, the promotion is constant, yet the ratings are awful.

ALostTexan 07-02-2007 09:38 PM

I remember growing up in the 80's, and ESPN was awesome. Different story, now. Same as MTV, but far worse there. I remember when it was actually Music Television, not reality show after reality show...

Cannon Shell 07-02-2007 09:41 PM

They actually have these guys "analyzing" this stupid ****. I bet those guys hate it but gotta do what they pay them for.

SCUDSBROTHER 07-02-2007 09:46 PM

I'll tell ya what is just as bad. That is this f'n Jenny Craig letting us know middle- aged women(that use to be hot) are now cow types.I am sure they are well paid, but I really don't need to know that Valerie Bertinelli got that big.Hopefully, this is just a SOCAL thing, and the rest of the country doesn't have to watch all that.

Is that the asinine high school popularity contest bs? They can go **** themselves with that girly/Perez Hilton garbage.

Just reduce the carbs ya eat(especially don't mix carbs with fat.) This means cutting back on bread n' butter in those Restaurants in the Big Easy.Men fail on low quantity diets(J Craig....W Watchers.)They gain any lossed weight back(because they can't keep eating that small an amount of good food.)

whodey17 07-02-2007 11:12 PM

I agree. I was confused by the "NOW" concept. I was like HUH???? And they have Mike Wilbon and Herbstriet and Key analyzing this. It is pretty stupid. I could care less about Sports Center these days. I cannot stand Stephen A Smith, Stuart Scott, Dick Vitale etc etc. The only show that is any good is PrimeTime. I loved it when Harold Reynolds was on Baseball Tonight, Charlie Steiner was in the studio etc etc.

Oh the things I hate the most is the "Ultimate Highlight."

pdrift1 07-03-2007 01:01 AM

ESPN=garbage. and what the heck did they do to espn classic, now that is a real shame. if i have to watch these fricken poker tournys and bull riding i swear i'll go ballistic. its baseball season , not one damn thing . i know they have it , i watched the **** in the late 90's. START PLAYING IT !!!! you assholes:mad:

whod, i never did bother to find out but why did they let harold reynolds go? shows how much i watch that crap station

3kings 07-03-2007 04:30 AM

I had heard the H. Reynolds thing had to do with hugging women ect...allegedly. ESPN only promotes the sports they own TV rights to. They use to cover NHL Hockey when they showed the games, now the Stanley Cup Final clinching game was not even the lead story. They promote Arena Football because they have the rights, are you f***ing kidding me. They actually have Mike & Mike broadcast the game to double up on promotion. There is no limit to thier self-serving billsh*t. Just show the sports for people who like sports don't make it a tabloid show. The people who want the fluff pieces aren't watching every night. I just with wish they would show highlights and not think they were the sports.

Booyeah

Just the latest in their pathetic, unending phony stunts. The watershed on this nonsense was the "Top 100 Athletes of the Century" back in 2000.. Supposedly put together by their writers, talent and editors, yet was completely devoid of any real understanding of sports, skill or history.

When Michael Jordan was named #1, Babe Ruth #2, I called Tony's radio show and called the thing out as a total fraud. All it ever was, and is constantly, is a forced opportunity for soundbytes and highlights. One of the comments about the Ruth-Jordan outcome came from one of their "talents", and was something like, "From every highlight I see of Babe Ruth he was a fat slob. How can he be the top athlete of the Century?" Maybe, you brainless turd, you might take into account that there was NO "highlights" of Babe Ruth when he was leading the American League in triples BECAUSE THERE WAS NO MOTION PICTURES YET... Or setting a consecutive scoreless inning streak in the World Series as a pitcher... A record that stood for, oh.. 75 years... Just pathetic.

And any of these putzes ever hear of Jim Thorpe? Let's see... He was voted Top Athlete of 1900-1950 by REAL sportswriters. So tell me who was a better athlete than Thorpe the next 50 years in this country? Or anywhere... Pro football.. Pro baseball.. Olympic decathalete.. Yeah.. Michael Jordan, who couldn't hit a curveball from AA pitchers was a better "athlete". Laughable.

ESPN is a complete sad joke.. And I'm glad to see everyone thinks this latest ridiculousness for what it is...

Pd - I think he was accussed of sexual harrassing the women that worked for ESPN. There might be some validity to that since he didn't sue ESPN for illegal termination (from what I know).

Another thing I hate is when they do that ESPN Deportes break. That really irks me. Isn't that why they have "The Oucho?"

I believe that HR is working for the baseball network, which is owned by MLB

Bigsmc 07-03-2007 01:57 PM

Sportcenter please....

Just show me highlights of games and events that have happened in the last 24hrs. If you don't have enough highlights to fill and hour, cut the show to 30min. DO NOT create crap like the Now thing as filler. DO NOT show me a day in the life of Jeff Garcia, save it for Oprah (or ABC's equivalent). DO NOT preview and predict the AFC South when they haven't even started practice, let alone pre-season. If you really need to fill time, DO show me Grade 1 Stakes races from around the country, they only take a couple minutes. Show the field and the final odds, the race and throw up the WPS payouts for 10 seconds.

Just give me highlights and sports news from the last 24hrs.

pdrift1 07-03-2007 06:48 PM

another thing that gets me is if your going to show the replays of the sun-mon-wed basball at 2 am - then show the whole game and not skip 3 innings here and move ahead here. if you cant show the whole game-what else do you need to show at 2-they have plenty of time. then don't bother -its like watching the stretch run of a race only on tvg.man that crap irks me:mad:

thanks i wondered why he got let go but nobody when i asked knew for sure and i never heard anything about it and have always wondered what he did

horseofcourse 07-05-2007 03:45 PM

It's just the ruination of cable TV. MTV and VH1 used to show music videos about 23 out of their 24 hour day. Now you never see them except at maybe 4 in the morning I guess?? VH1 is completely disgusting with 24 our a day sick reality shows. ESPN hasn't been the same since they stopped showing Canadian Football League games and Australian Rules Football.

Simon,if you want the no B.S. advice, then look this beast (in you) in the eye,and tell it you're no longer giving in.Tell it no.It's real tough if it never hears no,but it's a weak coward if you simply tell it no.This means something as simple as picking up a sock you dropped.Don't pick it up later.Pick it up now.Don't give in.Start with something simple like that, and the beast will weaken.

Being cheap is a form of telling the beast "no."

No,I didn't say it is easy(just go do it.)Which is what this guy has made a career of doing.I am saying to start with (what we think) are easy situations (to not give in to our lesser self.)Like I said, don't give in when your mind says you can pick up a little mess later.Say no,because the mind doesn't put values on things like we do.It just knows it wanted to be lazy, and got refused. We think cleaning something up now(instead of later) is minor, but it isn't.It's easy though, and it is important to tell your lazy side "no,f off."

Let's handicap the next ESPN farce...who's most then??

Sports oddities...miracle winners...failures...overhyped...underperforming.. .short term wonders, etc. top 5 qb draft pick quarterback failures were way too easy so I tried to limit them a bit.

Clint Longley
Mark Fidrych
Buster Douglas
Craig Perks
Orville Moody
Timmie Smith
Ryan Leaf
Tim Couch
Heath Shuler
Bill Johnson (the skier)
Anna Kournikova
MIchelle Wie
Billy Ray Bates
Marvin Barnes
David Clyde
Rick Ankiel
Joe Gilliam
T C Chen
Pearl Washington
Gheorge Muresan
Sam Bowie
Chris Washburn
Tonya Harding
Brian Doyle (the baseball player)
Rosie Ruiz
Ron Franklin (the jockey)
Mark Gastineau
Gerry Cooney
LaMarr Hoyt
Mark Davis (the pitcher)
Andre Ware
David Klingler (the last two could be considered one person I think)

...way more fun than the crap going on now taking up 30 minutes a day.

Bigsmc 07-10-2007 07:29 PM

No Tony Mandarich?

hershel could play despite being overrated as a pro and "the trade"...he wasn't a life embarrasment as gastineau became. i looked a lot at gastineau's fake boxing career as well and his roid use...generally a complete clown.
