Also read that Calvin Borel is riding at the Spa.

Coach Pants 07-01-2007 11:38 AM

He should come to Ellis Park.

fpsoxfan 07-01-2007 11:41 AM

They would certainly seem the best options, but sadly no.

If you cant do well in california right now then you certainly wont in new york.

Maybe he has sharpened his grass sprints riding in socal, plenty of those in new york!

Could be a "expensive" one! :D

NTamm1215 07-01-2007 01:10 PM

You know, I loved Jorge Chavez back in the day. He was solid in 99 and 2000, but as the years went by it slipped farther and farther away. He did have a decent Santa Anita meet given the frequency and quality of his mounts. He certainly can't be thinking it'll be any easier in NY, especially with guys like Cornelio V and Alan Garcia getting a TON of mounts nowadays. Oh well, he'll probably bail soon anyway.

Kent is and always has been worlds better rider then Chavez especially on the grass. One or two good years is not a career and that is all chavez really had.

and Kent is basically a giant prick and pissed off to many people, it did not have much to do with his riding.

yes, I think he is doing pretty good. He always has had alot of natural ability, and even struggling in socal he won around 16% the past couple years.

I've heard he's gotten himself in trouble with trainers before, but I've never heard a good explanation as to what happened. On the surface he seems like a good guy and for the past few years he's been one of my favorite riders. I talked to him after a race early in the Spa meet last year and he seemed a a little frustrated, but said to me.."I've got some live ones this meet, so stick with me." He wasn't lieing, after a slow first two weeks, he really took off from there.

Spendabuck85 07-01-2007 06:06 PM

Chavez just wins the 6th at Hollywood at $172.80 to win

maybe that will convince him to stay.

sumitas 07-01-2007 10:10 PM

he used to bring in the longest shots early this century. i think some bad spills set him back. hope chop chop is healthy.

If we throw Mike Smith in with Jorge Chavez, and a jockey to be named later, can you guys send back Garrett Gomez? It's pretty sad out here now.

geeker2 07-02-2007 10:29 PM

How about Samyn..then we can yell "Samyn on the Poly".

Not to worry Pat V will be back at Del Mar ...probably hairless.

ELA 07-02-2007 10:44 PM

Has anyone confirmed Jorge is coming back East? I didn't hear anything around the track last week, although I was only there toward the end of the week. I also didn't ask so that could be it as well.

From an outsider's perspective, and I haven't been following CA racing extremely closely, but Chavez has had a few good runs and a good meet or two since heading out there. When he first moved out there he said it was for good -- which of course means little at best, and actually means nothing, LOL.

Last time I took notice, he was probably riding at around 13% or 14% for the meet. He did seem to have a lot less rides than others though. I am not a jockey agent, and I certainly don't understand the intracacies of that aspect of the game -- not like an agent of course -- but I just don't think moving back is a strong or favorable move. It might be an emotional or family move, but I haven't spoke with Jorge in a long time.

BTW, if you are ever talking to him -- don't call him "Chop Chop"

LOL. I think Jorge or "Georgie" would be better.

Four wins for Chop Chop yesterday.
Am I crazy or has he actually been somewhat decent again recently?

AeWingnut 02-19-2008 05:29 PM

he's been decent. He ruled Gulfstream back when he won the Derby on Monarchos

Coach Pants 02-19-2008 05:52 PM

If Mountaineer had a tropical meet it would resemble Gulfstream on an average weekday.

I had no idea. Must've been some bad riding during that period.

pmayjr 02-19-2008 07:31 PM

Wasn't the thing that cost him a lot of the quality rides that he used to get, was he fired his jock agent? I mean I know chop chop has some talent, but if you have an agent hookin you up with rides too, it definately helps.

sumitas 02-20-2008 12:15 AM

His bio claims he was the leading rider in NY from 1994-1999. He has over 4,000 career wins and won an Eclipse Award as leading jockey. Quite a few accomplishments. But as they say, that's history.

MISTERGEE 02-20-2008 09:44 AM

his recent history is looking up with 4 wins on mondays card at Gp as was mentioned. he is better than most in south florida and if he stays will be one of the leading riders
