Sirius - ridiculous!

Okay, first my favorite radio program is interrupted for tennis ... today, I have to travel somewhere. I know the program is on the air at 4:00pm (at home, listening via the internet) - leave home, get in the car, turn on the Sirius in the car, tennis is on, but at 4:20 tennis is over.

Commercials start. Well, okay, I can listen to a few minutes of commercials, they'll hook up with ATR at 4:30, I think.

Oh, no - I had to listen to 40 $%*!@#*$ minutes of commercials, until they started playing ATR at 5:00pm.

As my second e-mail nastygram to Sirius in a week said, "I don't pay a premium for Sirius Radio in order to listen to 40 minutes of commercials - and I sure as heck won't continue to do so. Where the heck is my racing program!"

ARG!

i emailed and complained on monday and got a thank you.

I was thinking about getting sirius so I could listen to ATRAB while driving to the OTB

guess not

robfla 06-27-2007 09:00 PM

AE:
Don't judge sirius by this week.. If you like ATRAB, music, sports, Stern, talk, etc. it's a must while you are driving. Sure, one or two weeks a year they preempt the show, but there are still 50 other weeks in the year. Its a great ~$120 for the year investment! - especially if you drive more than 20 minutes a day total to work and back.

If you have issues with Sirius, do yourself a favor and call support instead of email. I've gotten much further in voicing issues/concerns over the phone in my few instances.

LOL, you're right ...

What ticked me off was that, even with the tennis ending early, they didn't cut back into ATR until 5:00pm, they just filled the air time with commerical content.

Hey, can you make it to Arlington?

onebadbeast 06-28-2007 02:05 AM

you know it! does a bear sh.......in the woods?

golfer 06-28-2007 04:30 AM

That was strange yesterday. I can only assume it was some sort of pre-programmed glitch. Hopefully they can straighten it out so it doesn't happen for the next 2 weeks, or however long the tennis runs. 180 channels and they have to stick this tennis nonsense on 126?

we swear by sirius! don't think we'd be without it now. it came with my wife's new car, we liked it so much we bought the boom box kit for in the house. (mostly for Alabama Football) :D
ATR is the only talk program i listen to on sirius and look forward to it when i get off work. they moved ATR races once to it's own channel, now they pre-empt it with tennis, just doesn't make sense. tennis and soccer, you may as well watch paint dry.

I am sure the programming people are looking at the channels and the only thing live on 126 is ATR from 4-7 Eastern and then repalys of ATR. They have several hours of advertising their own programming throughout the day (killing time until Steve comes on at 4). They probably looked at it as preempting 1hr of 1 show vs. preempting whole shows on other channels.

I don't like it, but I can see why it is being done. The only real way to stop it is for everyone to listen everyday. Get the ratings high enough that they wouldn't consider preempting 1 minute of the show.

AeWingnut 06-28-2007 06:09 AM

I really like that they cut away to the race call.

$120 a year ain't bad

I could care less about Howard Stern. I would like to find a station that plays music that isn't what I wanted them to play 20 years ago. I still like that stuff just want to hear hat's new and I don't mean top 40

ATRAB is puttng me n a different routine and it's bad
I used to go for bike rides now I just listen to the show. Listen to Steve interview the stars of the "industry" and talk about horses and races.

golfer 06-28-2007 06:12 AM

Bigs, I don't think they have "ratings" on satelite radio. Listener feedback would be about the only thing they can use to verify that we are listening to ATR. I change my stations every 2 or 3 minutes during the day, I don't think there's any way they can monitor exactly what we're listening to.

I used ratings in the wrong sense. I don't have a clue what technology they do have, but I would be shocked if they didn't have the ability at any time to "see" how many of the receivers are tuned in to any one station at any time.

How else are they going to decide what shows to keep and how much they pay their talent? They are not going to program 200 channels on listener feedback. Steve may be able to enlighten us on this.

I'm with you dd...since discovering sirius and "atrab" I admit I'm addicted. Sometimes when I get off work at 5:30 am I catch myself taking the long way home so I can hear the end of the replay of that days show(4a-7a). I call it cable radio and it's well worth the price. Byk does a wonderful job bringing news, interviews and live races calls to all the listeners. Wayne's cool too.

i'm lucky, i only work a few minutes from the house so i miss about the first 10 minutes.
one really cool thing, that 8-10 hr car trip and NEVER touch the radio dial.

If you like music, you'll love sirius.

channel 7= 70's
channel 8 = 80's
channel 9 = 90's and now
channel 21 = alt rock

all commercial free, only drawback is you might get into an accident flipping through all the channels. There are about 70 music channels alone

Channel 16 - The Vault :D

For those who may not be aware, if you have a Sirius subscription, you have access to a lot of their programming over the internet (I think all the music?). For an extra $2 or $3 bucks a month you get a "premium" feed i.e. higher Bandwidth. Just click on "listen Online" from their home page. I spend more time listening at my computer than in the car.

Aww how sweet. We take our football very seriously down here.hehe I have been going to Tiger games since I can remember. My first crush,,,ok ok before Randy Romeo, whos family used to race agianst mine down here, was Tommy Hodson, whom I got to meet in the Tiger Locker room one day, lets just say there was a table, towel and one very embarrassed highschool girl (me). My coach that took us on the tour knew of my crush and decided that I should show him how we rub down horses who has sore muscles since his hammy was hurting. My friend still teases me about that to this day.

tommy hodson, thats a blast from the SEC past. hodson's sr. year, i sat sat in Legion Field and watched him kill us!
Bama-Lsu is a strange series. Baton Rouge used to be our second home. Bama didn't lose in BR for 30 plus years, but Lsu can win at Bama.
