Summer Solstice

How are you guys going to celebrate?

I plan to go to Wal-Mar wearing a Viking hat claiming I am Morton. Blonde Pony tail wig, large fake breasts... I'm in business. Might even guzzle some grog, sing some opera, while claiming I am Morton.

Litha (Summer Solstice) is one of the four "Lesser Sabbaths" celebrated by Wiccans and other pagan religions, it is seen as the triumph of light...a time for handfasting and communication with the spirits of nature. For me personally, a day of quiet reflection.

Gee, now that you mention it, I did notice that exactly noon, the sun was aligned with the weathervane on top of the cupola on my carriage house and the cast shadow fell on the nearby bird bath.
Today, I'll quest for a virgin to share the wonder of it all.

On a side note, my 2yo filly had a gal ride her today, but she opted to wear clothes. Oh well...(the gal, not the filly).

Should I start with similar jokes and mocking? Let's see...did you hear they cancelled Easter? Oh well, one shouldn't go there...

My apology Somerfrost. I honestly didn't realize that the Summer Solstace held significance.
Enjoy the holiday.

No problem DTS, I figured you probably missed my original post, it just humors me when folks (not you or pgardn) who are so sensitive about their beliefs take opportunities to mock the beliefs of others.

Somerfrost,
I don't think it's cool to mock anyone's beliefs.
Again, sorry. I didn't mean to offend.
DTS

Maybe you could practice walking on water so as to be more like JC?

OK, so I generalized...my bad I guess. The Inquisition, part of the Burning Times is not a funny subject to folks like me though.

pgardn 06-21-2007 03:22 PM

I had no idea. I mean it seems like it should be celebrated because it is a distinct event. And people have so many beliefs based on the rainy season in their particular geographic area, all these human beliefs are so closely aligned with climate and stars I should have known. But I had no idea.

I would still like to dress up like Vikequeen Morton.

I told my some of my more Christian relatives that I wanted to dress up as a Caribou on Easter, as it was more like a reindeer than a rabbit. They found it childish and ignorant. Which I am, and it is and I am as so forth and so on.

I also claimed to be nervous before the "election" of the new Pope as I thought I might get the nod... my wife found that childish and Ignorant. So I have offended many. I am a pest. Sorry.

I guess the little, tiny, miniscule, baby Jesus scenes did not go over well with some in Talladega Nights. I split the smooth muscle in my stomach I was laughing so hard.

You missed my point, but it is really not worth explaining.

My mindset was to respond with a "mainstream" religious comment, frankly it was the first thing that came to mind...I wasn't going after a specific poster, merely making a statement designed for easy comprehension to most...I think more people "got" what I was saying than if I referenced Krishna, Job, Mohammad or other religious icons. I didn't miss you point, I merely stated what that picture represents to me.

It is presumptuous, but if you have to fire that shotgun in the US, you are most likely to hit a Christian. So he probably hit the target.

Pgardn, you are one of the last folks I'd accuse of being intolerant, I just felt like a response was necessary and my initial one was simply to define what Litha means to me, then...after it appeared the thread was heading down a particular path, I responded in kind. I'm not sensitive like some folks, but I do find some things amusing, others disturbing...it's my nature to "give my side" on topics like this...I don't mean to imply anything personal towards you.

Yeah, if we were living in Iraq, I'd have responded with a Islamic-related remark...well, maybe not unless I got a headstart!

And, for me the picture reminds me of how hilarious Monty Python's Holy Grail is. Not sure why, though.

To quote the lyrics of a song by Malvina Reynolds that we use to sing at demonstrations in the 60's:
"It isn't nice to block the doorway
It isn't nice to go to jail,
There are nicer ways to do things,
But the nice ways always fail!"

Sometimes, you have to go places that you'd rather not to make a point...or, using another popular phrase, "what goes around comes around!"

Cajungator26 06-21-2007 03:51 PM

Leave it to Wayne to quest for a virgin... my God. LOL

But, OK.

I shall follow your lead to "make a point" (not to be confused with hypocrisy).

My Plans for the Summer Solstice

An Essay by Bababooyee

For Summer Solstice 2007, I plan on pretending to be a Wiccan. In other words, I will spend all day playing "D&D for Chicks". Hopefully, I will be able to be the Dungeon Master. Regardless, the joy I will get wearing my cloak of infinite protection and rolling my 30-sided die will be amazing. Or maybe I will be nude. Then, I will wrap it up by placing a hex on those I don't like, eat some children and wash it all down with virgin blood. I just hope I can find some crystals that will make my broom fly, as well as some rat whiskers to spice of the child stew in my chauldron. I just have to remember to sharpen my boline because it hasn't been touched since Summer Solstice 2006!

LOL!!! My only critique is that that would be funnier if it had some degree of accuracy...use skyclad not nude, hex?, brooms, demonic stuff all too far off base to be humorous.

Somer,
Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is handfasting. I know what fasting is, but is handfasting the same thing or something related to the wiccan religion.

Handfasting is the Wiccan equal of marriage, in the past, it would last for one year where upon the couple could then renew or separate; today, most couples see it as a permanent union.

Cajun,
Good ya got a kick out of it. I'm still looking...it's been a very long effort.
Anyway, I should probably put this in a pm to you but I almost got a good kick today as well. It wasn't the filly. She's very good and I think she realizes that, though we don't take any sh-t from her, she also realizes that we're not going to harm her.
But Boy oh Boy! The colt!!! He's such a nice looker but what a "head case".
Some colts are plain full of fear.
He'll probably come around in a while. He just might take longer.
Hope you're doing fine. Riding lately?

I always find Midsummer a little depressing because it reminds me the days are now growing shorter! And the wheel turns... :)

No, unfortunately not... :(

No time. Hopefully, things will change in that aspect soon and I'll be able to start again.

Glad to hear that things on your end are good. (Or at least it sounds like it.)

See you. You'll LOVE it!
And...to all the other DTers as well.
We should have some great money makers.
