Sigh...

Beam me up Scotty....

hmmm....but cialis and viagara adds are ok to air...I guess that means that getting it up is ok but covering it up is not..:p

I have been sitting here at work all day listening to people on commericals (the TV in our office is right above my desk) talk about their herpes and their vaginas -- including the most outlandish of all....the lady talking about her less-than-fresh vagina and the "odor" and the commerical cuts to a shot of seafood. Really? Somehow that is appropriate for daytime viewing, and frequent viewing at that. I've been here six hours and have heard it at least a half dozen times.

Condoms + preventing disease? = Good.
Condoms + preventing pregnancy while having sex without the intent to procreate, but just because it might feel good? = Bad.
Unfresh Vaginas + Seafood? = The Best!

I got that last little set of equations from an official memo from the networks.

Oh lord... I seriously have no comment. Wow, Brian.

TVG has the best sequence of commercials...the cash call (loan shark) followed by maxoderm (boner cream) then the jesus cd (feel guilty about the boner cream and tithe even though you're paying 90+ percent interest on the loan)

Hey kids...I'll cook dinner in about 2 hours after I recover from this one:eek: Thanks B!

I'd be surprised if anyone who watches Fox News has any need for a condom.

Somer: I doubt that anyone considers CBS part of the religious right, so you might want to rethink that thought!

Timm,
Did you read the linked article? I think it's 100% obvious who CBS and Fox were catering to?

Haven't read it yet....CBS really catered to the RR when dumping "Joan of Arcadia" and fostering Ghost Whisperer and the rest of programming. Moonves said that he wanted these programs to target the younger crowd! Do you think Les is getting splinters now?

It's a strange world we live in....but there are certain "taboos" that seem constant, and sex being the "devil's" plaything is a constant in this culture as well. We can show women disemboweled, demons from somewhere, machine guns opening up on crowds, but the idea that people might actually choose to have sex for something other than having kids causes certain folks (who I won't name again) to go into convulsions!

timmgirvan 06-18-2007 05:05 PM

I think this whole thread is much ado about nothing! I read the article....Jeez..it would have sold if it was a beer commercial...or the Sarrano on the Rocks commercial, right? I mean, there I was at 10:19 at nite wondering if I could make it to the liquor store to pick up A bottle of Sarrano..and the ice of course!! Gimme a break!

You're just watching the evening news there, Somer! Procreation was the only reason for sex, as far as the Catholic church told me growing up....that didn't work out too good ,either;)

Sorry if it was bad -- I've just been sitting here all day listening to this sort of gross stuff and then finally had the pleasure of actually WATCHING the commerical and I was just blown away.

Am I the only person who has seen that classic?!

NO..unfortunately, you're not! Business aside, they really are channel-changing moments(ED,Extenze and all of the feminine comms), I mean how many times can you watch the same commercial? I've even switched the channel only to find the same thing on the new channel. I guess Tivo IS the answer!

I got that last little set of equations from an official memo from the networks.

At times I have the same thoughts when I spend too much time in the fish market.
Here are some tips:
Always smell oysters. Yup, get your nose right down on em. If they're any good, the snozzolla will let ya know.
If they're not, you'll know very quickly.
With fish that's supposed to be "fresh", give em a finger test. Push it in.
If it springs right back, might be ok. Then look at its eyes. If it looks cloudy (stoned), put it back. If it doesn't, well, it kind of reminds me of my 82 year old great-aunt's bottom. Nothing is going to make it bounce back, nor would anyone want to take the time to bother. Put that one back unless you want to visit your doctor.
Now, lobsters are a bit different. Watch out for those claws. If they're swimming, pick an active one. Get her home quickly before giving her a nice warm bath (boiling). She'll settle down.
Blue claws...now coming into season. Watch those pinchers! OOWCH!
They have to be moving vigorously. A nice boil will reward your efforts.
Do you want to know about clams?
All I can tell you without really getting into it further, if they spread them open before you make the buy (I'm talking shells, not legs like lobsters and crabs), might be best to leave them at the corner, of the cooler that is.
Summation....smell, finger test, push, then eat em up!

i don't understand what these products have to do with the utterly filthy subject of sex.

one helps you throw a football through a hanging tire and the other helps old people hold hands while soaking in hot tubs.

i'd ask my wife to explain but she's busy watching stock footage of trains entering tunnels, rockets launching, and geysers erupting. she seems a bit on edge.

I may never eat seafood again.

I noticed on Fox last night there were a few of the local date-line commericals, and they featured some very scantily-clad women. I mean, it was borderline soft-core porn.

I just cannot believe they would air those ads, yet avoid the commerical in question. I know it is a local affiliate airing the ad I saw last night, but still blows me away...

Oh Fox! So "fair and balanced".
I got a giggle out of this, especially the comments regarding Anne Coulter's
effect on _______. Too funny!

Yeah... but much as I hate Fox News, it's still part of the network that gave us "The Simpsons" and "Arrested Development" even if I was the only person who ever watched that show and it got cancelled. :(

Pretty much all TV news is biased....and panders to the public. Fox has aired (and unfortunately cancelled) some of the best shows ever seen on TV...don't think that relates to decisions such as this by netwrok bigwhigs.

all biased, and all bad. i get most of my news from the paper and online...

as for the rejection of the ad--this is what happens when networks fear doing anything that will result in a boycott by their viewers. as for the whole 'it has to be about health, not procreation'--well, that's crap. the roman catholic church still is outspoken about condom use in ALL situations, and it has had a huge effect in africa, where the aids epidemic is out of control. and it's that mindset that causes ads like these not to run. they don't mind having shows that imply sex, but to actually acknowledge the act?! god forbid! (literally)
