Tin Man/Better Talk Now

Does not look like he ("BTN") will run in arlington mill. would love to see these two old salts go at it.

Particularly interesting given they are absolutely polar opposites in running style.

Most (if not all) of the horses who raced against The Tin Man in the Million last year were polar opposites, and all were behind him. I hope to see both Tin Man and BTN in the race. I might even drag myself out of the Million Room to the grandstand area that day, just to see the showdown. :)

ninetoone 06-14-2007 01:20 PM

I like The Tin Man, but he stole that race last year. I doubt a similar scenario plays out this year. I'd love to see those two go at it too...My $ will be on BTN though.

I don't think he stole the race last year. He may have set a slow pace in the Million, but no horse seemed to be in a particular hurry to pass him at any point during the race, including at the finish line :)

ninetoone 06-14-2007 01:35 PM

I consider it a steal when you set fractions of 50 & 1:15 w/not much pressure & then hold off the closers...but I'm happy for him. He's a cool horse. I just don't think that scenario will play out again anytime soon.

Oh, I don't know about that. He seemed to do pretty well in the Shoemaker on Memorial Day at Hollywood. I think he won that race in good fashion :)

ninetoone 06-14-2007 01:50 PM

The Shoemaker was a great race for him (still was a slow pace), but you're talking apples and oranges. He wasn't on the lead the whole way...what do you consider a "steal"?

One word - Giacomo. It was fortunate I bet on him anyway, as well as Closing Argument.

As for last year's Million, I was waiting for all those other horses to pass him, and none of them did. So who does one fault for The Tin Man 'stealing' the race? Causes me to ponder. :)

ninetoone 06-14-2007 02:08 PM

Giacomo "stole" the race in the Derby? Somebody out there help me out here w/some horse racing terminology 101.

Honu 06-14-2007 02:16 PM

I love it !!!!!! The Tin Man has everyone guessing , in his defense about the Million last year , it was all jockey error behind him, they all thought the old fart would stop but they werent smart enough to even realize that their horses were about to break into a jog they were going sooooo slow. Now with him winning from a little off the pace in his first race back its got people wondering what hell do next time, well Ill tell you what he will do next time, whatever the rider wants, if the pace is hot hell let em go if its slow he will cruise to the lead , to Tinny it doesnt matter he just enjoys running .

You know, it's just my opinion; you have yours, I have mine. I thought this was going to be an interesting and friendly conversation, but the last comment told me otherwise. Have a nice day and good luck in all your racing endeavors.

I think he was trying to point out that when a horse 'steals' a race it's done while on the front end.

Thank Caj. I do understand what was said, I just didn't quite like the tone of that post. It reminded me of the tone I got from Dabosshoss the first time I replied to a post. I guess my skin isn't as thick as my skull apparently is. I should perhaps go back to viewing posts for a while.

And thanks for the tip a while back about Cotton Blossom. I won some nice money on her Saturday. :)

Yeah, I hear you... sometimes it's tough to get a good read while on message boards. I get what you're trying to say as well... Giacomo sure as heck stole the race from me. I didn't have him on any ticket!!! LOL

Glad that you cashed on Cotton Blossom... really like that filly.

ninetoone 06-14-2007 02:39 PM

I wasn't trying to be condescending & I apologize if it came off that way...but terminology is terminology, it's not "you have your opinion & I have mine"...it is what it is. Thanks for the clarification Cajun!

When I saw her name on the program, I thought of you and said, put some money on her. Cajun said so! :)

Is it me or are the jockey's "clocks" not what they used to be 10-20-30 years ago?

I did overreact a bit, but I was burned badly with my first posting experience, so I tend to think that most people are out to make me look like an idiot. In any event, thanks for the apology, although as I look back on the notes, I looked like the idiot. I'm thinking I'll need that Terminology 101 now. Thought I understood all the terms, but apparently not. :)

I think his races are pretty planned out at this point , the American handicap the end of this month and then the Arlington million again.

ninetoone 06-14-2007 02:51 PM

I'm not trying to make anyone look bad & believe me, I'm no "expert" and proud of it! You can learn a lot from this board though, just tread lightly & watch out for the sharks...

You may be onto something but I really believe that they all thought that he couldnt win so they would just let the old guy have his fun and then they would all swarm him at the end.

Actually, you did. I deleted the post because you scared me. You don't scare me anymore. :D Oh, and I guess I messed up your handle. Sorry about that. That's what I call you in the comfort of my own home.

Thanks for the advice. I have been trying to remain under the radar, but sometimes I forget and situations like this occur :)

My first post was a comment about Nicanor, and you made a reply about my abilities to identify sarcasm. I wanted to reply back, but the whole exchange "scared" me, so I just deleted my messages. Today's exchange reminded me of that day, and I got a little carried away.

You don't scare me anymore. I find your posts and the majority of posts very informative, interesting and quite often very amusing.

Have a good evening.

Good point. I have been reading the forum for a while now, and I'm not as nervous about posting as I was in the beginning. I spend more time reading the posts however. There are some people on this forum who are quite pleasant, some who are interesting, some who are just plain BRUTAL, and some who are certifiable. No one involved in this conversation falls into the last two categories :)

PPerfectfan 06-14-2007 10:26 PM

to Tinny it doesnt matter he just enjoys running .

Or is it that he enjoys leaving the whipper-snappers and doubters all shaking their heads saying "How did he DO that?"hehe Happy horses make great race horses. As far as the Million goes.....blah, blah, he stole it, blah, pace was to slow, blah. He and Victor cant help that the other jocks fell asleep can they? ..........<Tinny and V, galloping off "See ya next year suckers> :D
