keep my dad in your prayers please

my father went to the doctor on Friday because he has been short of breathe lately, next thing he knows, he is in the emergency room getting his heart tested. Found out today that he needs triple bypass surgery which will be done tomorrow afternoon. I can't believe it, nor can he or anyone in my family because he is only 54 yrs old and seems to be very healthy. I'm a little worried about the surgery and I know he is as well, but I'm just glad this was caught when it was and he didn't have a heart attack.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your dad, you, and the rest of your family.

Hang in there, kid.

SniperSB23 06-04-2007 12:25 AM

Good luck to you and your father. Hope all goes well.

Rupert Pupkin 06-04-2007 01:04 AM

I am sorry to hear that. That is terrible news. We will all be hoping for a full and speedy recovery for your dad.

hockey2315 06-04-2007 01:41 AM

Very sorry to hear that. . . Good luck with everything and hang in there. . .

ALostTexan 06-04-2007 02:26 AM

Damn, sorry to hear that. From someone that assists in heart surgery, it is a pretty routine surgery, but from someone in your position, it is anything but that.

I will be thinking about him tomorrow...

Bingo. It is a very good thing they caught it now.

My Dad went through the same shortness of breath thing. Ignored it and ended up with a heart attack. He was/is a heathy stud. Triple bypass. Still tromping through the woods and climbing into tree stands at 70 (10 years after the heart attack). Also just played a golf marathon with his three sons (that nearly killed me) a couple weeks ago, 126 holes in five days.

Your father's health will be a positive in his recovery.

Thoughts and prayers Bro.

timmgirvan 06-04-2007 04:12 AM

Irish: I'll keep you and Dad in prayers! Actually, it was a good thing it was caught early....many people don't get that chance.

My dad had a very similar operation about 10 years ago and he was his old self again not long afterwards, I'm sure your dad will be the same. I remember how nervous I was at the time though, best wishes to you and your family. Hope he makes a quick recovery.

Kasept 06-04-2007 07:10 AM

Sending your dad all my best. On the bright side, being relatively young, he'll recover from surgery faster than he would if he were in say his 70's. And three cheers to him for going to the doctor when he didn't feel right!

paisjpq 06-04-2007 07:28 PM

I hope all went well for your dad today...like GR said he's young and should bounce back. My boss' wife had quadruple bypass after a heart attack at age 78 and she's still going stong 8 years later! She's healthier than I am....walks a mile and a half every afternoon and gardens most of the day.

mclem10011 06-04-2007 07:57 PM

Hopes & Prayers.......

That all went well today for your family. We're all thinkin of you, hope your dad came through safe.

deltagulf 06-04-2007 07:57 PM

my prayers are for you and your family today, also to hooves family.

my neighbor lost his life at 32. from a heart attack. just sitting in his chair and enjoying a cold brew. just never know.

IrishofNDMan 06-04-2007 09:00 PM

thanks for all your best wishes and prayers guys. Long day at the hospital for me and my family, only to do it again tomorrow. Nurse comes in and says the doctor is going to take an extra 4 hours with his surgery before my dads. We sit and wait to see what happens, and we find out that he got pushed back tomorrow morning at 7:30. Back to the hospital bright and early, but my dad told me to bring my laptop because they have wireless internet in the waiting room so I might be post happy for a few hours tomorrow lol.

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers!

Rileyoriley 06-04-2007 09:26 PM

Same thing happened to my dad 3 1/2 years ago. He ended up having quadruple bypass surgery. Of course he had smoked 3 packs a day as long as I can remember. Hasn't touched one since.

IrishofNDMan 06-04-2007 09:47 PM

I didn't note, my dad gave up smoking 2 months ago. He smoked for 30 years before he just gave it up, but he was a healthy man besides the bad bad cigs.

2Hot4TV 06-04-2007 09:59 PM

I quit 7 years ago and I can tell that it is really hard for the first year and for me it took about 5 years before I stopped thinking about smoking.

I have had 2 angio's and my Doctor has promised me my bypass in the future if I survive a host of other problems.

Best of luck and a very good day tomorrow.

God Speed To Your Dad. My Step Dad Will Be 90 This Friday. I Will Be Lucky To See 60.

IrishofNDMan 06-05-2007 11:04 AM

I'm sitting on my computer here in the waiting room, the nurse just came in and said the surgery is complete and that everything went well. Just thought I would give you guys all an update.

dr. fager 06-05-2007 11:10 AM

Great news, wish him a speedy recovery.

That is great Irish. The hard part is over. He'll be back to his old self quicker than you'd expect.
