Who goes to the Belmont?
Having a Triple Crown on the line is one thing but if you don't does Street Sense come back in 3 weeks? I'd love to see him come back and vindicate himself or heck have Curlin do it without having a hanging Street Sense in front of him because he's classy too. It might be fun to have the top 3 back again and change the order one more time with Hard Spun getting a win since they've locked up 2 races now.
So: Who are we looking at making the field from this race, who might come back from the Derby previously, and who're the new shooters? Poor ABC, the Belmont ratings may not be going through the roof this year. |
I'll bet none of the top 3 go to the Belmont.
Nobiz? |
Thinking the same thing.
Total Guessing Hard Spun = No Street Sense = Yes Curlin = No Tiago = Yes Rags to R = Yes Teufles = What do you think? |
Oh I'm sure as long as Street Sense is ok they'll move foward with him and then rest Him for a couple weeks. Curlin will run no doubt about it. Them owners see $$$$$ for him being with Pauda and all. Jones turns Hard Spun out until Delaware Park opens in the Summer and points towards the late Summer races. I think Todd brings AGS back for the Belmont. No Biz is also a returning factor.

Now that we won't have a Triple Crown candidate...I'M going to the Belmont. No 120,000 crowds! and they'll be PLENTY of Tickets now available!

Cajun,
Ikeep forgetting about Scat's feet. I take that one back. I think the 2 newcomers will be Slew's Tizzt and Chelokee. Both will have proper rest for this race (I consider proper rest 3 weeks or longer...) |
Thought I read somewhere that Great Hunter was being pointed to the Belmont too.

Since this time he'd prolly be a lil closer to the pace, and Nakatani won't make an early, foolish, 10-wide move in the Belmont. I'm not sayin he wins the Derby or even finishes in the top-3. But I screamed at the tv when Nakatani made that move on Great Hunter. It cost him and a chance at a piece IMO. |
I dont think they run street sense in the belmont, just a gut feeling but the fall races offer alot more then winning the 1 million dollar belmont.
|
what about the peter pan tomorrow. maybe a horse can run well and go to the belmont from there. fearless vision, Vitruvius, Sightseeing, & Soaring By all go tomorrow in the ppan
|
Great Hunter is going to Belmont
Love hard Spun but should not go to Belmont |

Belmont should be a great race and a great cap to this Triple Crown season even if none of the top 3 from the D and P go. However, I do think Curlin will end up going in the Belmont. The owners seem pretty sporty as does Larry Jones with Hard Spun, but they are more likely to take a step back after finishing third. I was big on Any Given Saturday for the Belmont, but last I heard he had a bruised hoof.
Curlin, Nobiz Like Shobiz, Rags to Riches, Great Hunter, Slew's Tizzy, Tiago, Imawildncrazyguy, (winner of the Peter Pan), (Runner up in the Peter Pan), and possibly Zanjero and Chelokee (they'd be nuts not to run Chelokee; he just oozes a "Belmont look" with the way he travels). Who knows? We may get lucky and get one of the other two big guys from the first two races. In any case, it looks like a very intriguing, competitive race. Can't wait. |
I think the one big oversight is Slew's Tizy here. He'd be going into that race on a month's rest. Not bad. Still unproven on a fast dirt surface, but I think he runs here.

Sightseeing will be there, assuming the Peter Pan is good. I doubt that SS will be back. Tiago and Great Hunter will likely be there.

Rags To Riches has a big look in the Belmont Stakes.
I'm going to wait and see how the race shapes up and who's in it---but it's going to be very tough for me to resist betting on her. |

Me too. |
Has a Filly ever won the Belmont? I don't recall a filly ever running in it.
|
It's been won by a filly twice...Ruthless took the very 1st Belmont Stakes ever...which was in the 1860's I believe.....and a filly who's name escapes me won it in 1905.
Hasn't been done in over a hundred years---but hey, you guys know how I feel about those trends. Two very nice fillies ran it in the 90's....My Flag was 3rd to Editor's Note and Skip Away....Silverbulletday was off the board. Rags To Riches has a monster look in that race regardless of any historical stats. |
Street Sense isn't going to the Belmont Stakes

That's understandable.
|
Tanya won on 1905.
Ruthless was not only a filly, she was foaled in NY! A NY bred! Imagine... It really is too bad that the G1 Belmont is a non-event for so many horses which at some point in the season were considered amongst the top 10 Derby candidates. In fact it almost seems like for all but the Derby winner, the the Preakness and the Belmont are meaningless. |

I would have to agree, at this point she is the only one left- but we'll see, 3 weeks is a long time. |
I imagine Flying First Class, and perhaps Teufelsberg, will show up as well.
|
What about Officer Rocket? What happened to him?
|
Something tells me the "top 3" from both the Derby & Preakness...WON'T be going.
They're saving the "test of the champions" for...the lady! |

I just hope the weather is nice that day and I hope they load up the undercard. The negative attitude yesterday on my part was due in part to all of the chalk at both Belmont and Pimilco. Also I wanted to see the potential for the Triple Crown. I lost a few hundred yesterday..not really the reason for sour grapes...In fact I bet Hard Spun. I disliked him in the Derby and loved him here. Oh well..that's my story and I'm sticking to it. |

Welcome aboard Herkhorse! I just noticed your a couple miles "up the road" from me. Spent a lot of time at the Herkimer OTB in the late 80's & early 90's when I lived in Fort Plain. Don't care for the new location across from the McDonalds though, the old place was great back in the 80's. Ever been to the OTB at Mr.McGills up the road in Schulyer? Heather the bartender is real friendly and cute! :D |

Sorry I didn't make it up yesterday, but I spend from 2:30 til 5:45 at the autograph signing in Amsterdam for the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame "meet and greet". Met my idol; "Rowdy" Roddy Piper! Shook his hand and got his autograph...great guy, real friendly and signed for everybody. Other greats like: The Missing Link, Fabolous Moolah, Mae Young, Nick Bockwinkel, Pat Patterson, Doink the Clown and the "Million Man" Ted DiBiase. It was worth the long wait in line :o ...watched the race over at OTB and got there with 20 mins to post. Hit the early pick 4 at Pimlico for a buck and had the "triple box" in the Preak. It's been a very good week wagering for me! :) |
